  5. The sandflats north of Adelaide, at the top of both the SA gulfs, hold some unique terrain and ecosystems. At low tide, these sandflats can drain out for over 2 kilometres. The tidal movements are, over 3 meters in St Vincents Gulf and upto 4 metres in the upper Spencers Gulf. The water temperature ranges from 11C to 25C. Typical of shallow, protected water bodies, it is a highly productive ecosystem holding a lot of fish and marine life. It is home, for two of my favourite fishing targets, the “Southern Blue Spotted Flathead” -Platycephalus speculator and the “Yellow Fin Whiting” -Sil
  6. Good to know there are a few about the metro beaches. Try keeping your bait moving. YFW love a moving bait. So cast and slow retrieve. Or alternatively walk out to the sand bank in upto waist deep water. Then slowly walk along the sandbank trolling your bait some distance behind you. You will have them, chasing, tapping and soon striking your bait. Good Luck
  7. This summer I have regularly been fishing a common metro spot for yellowfin with my best session being 6 fish 26-30cm over about 8 hours fishing. After seeing recent discussions regarding a reduction in catch numbers I agreed that maybe there are fewer numbers. My last 2 trips I have seen plentiful numbers of good size fish swimming through the shallows. I have pumped the nippers, fished the incoming tide, cast near the school for them to rush over have a look and leave the bait sitting there. And have observed the fisherman near me experiencing the same. I don’t know what I seem to be d

    Ok J braid

Ok tried the shimano nasci this morning way to windy but another problem again surfaced cast line and lure stops short took me awhile to pull line out and get a ok cast . I could’ve changed the lure but weather was against me .I'm almost over this braid see if it improves with a heavier lure otherwise I may strip it and get a different braid on the reel
  9. Mickyj

    Ok J braid

So I’ve looked at the shimano nasci reel removed any of the line that had issues like a giant loop less line on it still more than the Okuma reel I’ll see how it handles latter in the week

    Ok J braid

Ok had a great chat with HBT think both reels were over spooled with braid .

Thanks been doing it manually for years. It just seems to be with the 2 reels with J braid as I said I have an ancient 1000 sienna cheap braid no issue . Just the jbraid on 2 different size and brands of reels

If you don't already do this, this might help. After casting, close your bail manually & not click it over by winding the handle as this will sometimes give you a loose loop of line, put a bit of tension on the line when you first start winding until you have taken up the slack line & have the weight of the lure.

    Ok J braid

Happens with 4 gram or 5 gram lures as well . I tend to notice the single loop when casting the multiple loops that tied up on the leader knot the drag knob and on the reel shaft was a shock but has happened on this Okuma reel and the shimano reel both with Jbraid I have an ancient sienna 1000 wiyh cheap braid not a loop never an issue . And I hate in the tackle shop being told it’s due to it being a 1000 reel when it only happens to Jbraid not the cheap stuff ! And the Okuma reel is a 30 larger than a 1000 smaller than a 2500 reel . now casting perfectly

    Ok J braid

Difficult to say for sure but those loops sound like your line is too loose on the spool, this happens when fishing light lures and baits, try putting tension on the line every few casts and just be wary of any obvious loose loops before casting, hopefully that helps.

Ok reel and j braid were fine today pity the bream at west lakes were watching me and laughing

    Ok J braid

So yesterday the Okuma reel had line in a knot on the leader loops going around the drag knob and line around the shaft under the spool

Ok both reeks were spooled at 2 different tackle shops . The 1000 just keeps on getting large loops I’ve given up on it . Almost every cast loop that turns into knot around the top of the spool . Last time couldn’t untangle it . The Okuma reel it gets loops going around the top of the spool . Yesterday they did but also giant loop that got a knot and three ends connected to the knot . I had to snap the line or it snapped when I tried to untangle it . So I had then 3 ends somehow I got 2 of the sections off retied the leader to the spool and it was fine lost somewhere between 2 to 3 metres . Th

You didn't say what the actual problem was but if removing a little line fixed it you may just have been overspooled? There could be any number of reasons for having issues. Regardless jbraid is good line so I wouldn't have thought that the brand is your problem.

    Ok J braid

Might be just myself I have 2 reels spooled with J braid . Reel 1 shimano 1000 Reel 2 Okuma 30. Now I’ve been told the shimano reel is due to it being a 1000 size . I have an ancient Sienna 1000 braid no issue it was cheap stuff from the tackle shop . The Okuma 30 is larger than a 1000 smaller than a 2500 . Today I had to cut metres of jbraid off and then it was fine. So is it idiot me or is this a jbraid issue
  20. Threw in some cokies on a whiting set up today and the young fella pulled in a snapper he was so happy.

  22. Just an update: I went behind to the Torrens behind the zoo during sunset yesterday but still no carp going on. Again today at the Happy Valley Reservoir, near the reeds, but unfortunately no carp either. Found a good spot for Murray Cod - there were a few people catching them there and throwing them back as you are only allowed to keep carp and red fin. Still - good experience and learning plenty along the way, eg monitoring the channels, time of day and spots where others were catching fish. At the very least, it was a nice day in the sun and some great peace time/solitude!
  23. Yeah, busy ramps suck. Thoughts? It is what it is, don't let it get to you instead work around the problem. Avoid peak times if possible, if you can't do that then go a little further, Snowdon's is a good ramp and basically empty all the time, with the time saved waiting in queues the extra 15 minutes or so travel to/from outer harbour is a non issue if you have the range plus as a bonus you can troll the channel edges with deep divers and maybe pick up a surprise mully, kingy or accidental big snapper, it's not likely to happen but certainly not impossible either, especially on
  24. Hey All, I know the 'Regatta' is currently on at WB as I've seen the signs well in advance. I tried to book my ticket for saturday and the 50 rec launches are already gone for saturday (all because of Recfish was this an option so thank you Ash). I have just been made aware that North Haven had some issues on the weekend and it was reported on by channel 7 (went away so was oblivious to this) . Since this is my second ramp option, what was the main reason for the hold ups? Is the regatta also taking up the NH ramp? Honestly, why do we do sh*t half assed in this state! Buil
