Squid Inc. reacted to southie THE BANGA in Just A Zap.....
So after Talking to a mate saying there was Heaps of Lightning around I made the Swift decision to Boost down to Porties Jetty and try to get some Lightning shots.

Knowing full well that I was going to be in for a long night of waiting, as well as knowing I had to work the next day I wasn't going to miss out on the opportunity. So after sitting there waiting for nearly 3 hours It finally came close enough to get a few photos.

The waiting and the lack of sleep was well worth it just showing by the pictures!

Squid Inc. reacted to JAYMAN in How do you tie/connect your braid to you swivel
Have been taking a few seasoned reco's out for fishing session over the past few years and some not knowing certain knots to connect[. and though i would put this one up as one of the best knot's to connect braids/lines to your swivels, lures etc.. all recos should have a wide variety of knot tying skills and the palomar will impove you catch rate especially when it comes down to braided lines being connected to swivels,attachment=20185:20150222_102616.jpg] hope this one helps a few reco's , and i would mainly use on your bait rigs ,cheers

Teamed up with Tristman and Jetman ,and went out for a squid session at point riley this morning launched the bertram with a strong easterly blowing but flat seas which put a smile on my dial.perfect for squidding .

arrived at the squid hole/ledge with only 3 pro's on it no verbles exchanged which was good .sounder was showing a lot of squid not bulling but thick.

jigs hit the water working in close around the 10 ft mark and drift out , bang ! instant action  with 6 biggies on board ,time for another drift,on the second drift i noticed that a lot of squid was on the follow and the pro's were going quite so we managed to pull the squid of them, as they were all anchored on the bull  ,anchored up and they left, had the bull to ourselves now, 6 drifts over the bull and ...

and one quote of good sized squids,

prepare your squid ,i like mine tenderised as it takes on the flavours better and easy to chew on.

i only cook in salt water  from the sea ,so best to grab some mineral salt water. sterilise your jars ,you can use tablets but boiling water will do.

gather your spices i like to change it up in every jar.

only boil your squid in salt water .do not rinse with fresh just strain and let it cool so you can handle it

vineger and salt water only in the mix ,and if you pack the jars while the meat is warm it gives the jars that air tight pop when you open them to feast like a king ...https://youtu.be/BmMz3ift--Q cheers JAYMAN.

Squid Inc. reacted to TheBerg in Winter Steelheading
Went home over Christmas. Dad and I grabbed the 10 weights and decided to target some Gold River Steelhead. We had heard some reports coming from the lower reaches of the island that the Steelies were staring to move into the rivers for their winter spawning. Armed with obnoxious and outlandish flies we set out. During the spawn the whole idea is to try and piss the trout off enough that he has a go at your fly. They aren't too concerned with eating during this time so you have to keep at it. Anglers have named the Steelhead 'the fish of a thousand casts'. After pushing that 10 weight around all day my arm certainly understood why. Despite braving the cold and putting in the time we both came up with a fishless day. We froze our asses off despite rugging up, we cleaned countless chunks off ice out of the guides, toes and fingers constantly  numbing. I stupidly tried wading some small rapids and almost went for a tumble. Dad later slipped on a icy bank and went face first in the stream. Don't ask why but we ended up with a rental minivan which turns out has some decent 4x4 capabilities. Overall it was your classic first day out of winter fishing. Many laughs.

Even though it was a great day out it was damn cold, so I think I'll stick with fishing in the hot Australian sun for the time being. Although that elusive Steelhead is still on the bucketlist.

Squid Inc. reacted to Tristman in wallaroo jetty snapper
My old man was hassling me to go fishing at wallaroo jetty for snapper, he had me in a headlock begging me.
So i gave in we hit the jetty a nine pm as that is the prime time for snapps at the jetty, we got to our spot at the jetty anchored up 45 meters away.

As the boat settled in with the wind and the tide, the old boy was in straight away (we like to free float at the jetty) he didint get the chane to put his rod down and he was on.
This was the result nice little wallaroo snapper
I proceeded to cast my rod for my first cast and this

Only spent two hours on the water 7 fish in total c@r lost a couple of horses to the structure, so there is good fish at the jetty at the moment was a cracker session.

Squid Inc. reacted to O2Catch1 in "the containers" snapper drop
There are so many drops out there, and a lot of assumptions are made as to what the drop may consist of.
Remember the Pallets, supposed to be 100s of wooden pallets all weighed down. What a load of rubbish! Imagine the logistics of transporting that many pallets and the weight necessary to keep them on the bottom. If a shipping container was to fall off a ship it would be well documented. And for an individual or a group of recreational fishers to take a container out and sink it, well that is a good one and if you believe that ....... well what can one say.

Not all, but most drops out local are made of milk crates tied together and weighed down, shopping trolleys, washing machines/dryers or small boats that are purposefully sunk. I have looked at many drops with a camera and I can vouch for what I have said here!

Squid Inc. reacted to Kuerschie in Yak camera mount
Decided to try and make a camera mount to put on my yak for when I want to take photos and videos whilst I'm fishing. With a very limited budget and limited tools I was able to make up a simple and easy mount that slot's into one of my four flush mounted rod holders. This means that I can alter the angle that I want to shoot at.

First off I had to buy my mount pole which was simple enough, any pole type structure will do such as a PVC pipe. I bought a cheap prawning light that was plastic and the head of the pole was to be used as the ideal mounting point. Second thing to buy was a pool noodle, and that's all I had to buy. I run a GoPro Hero 3+ so I used a few spare mounts from that to secure my camera to the pole.

Firstly I removed the globe and head casing of the light and then took out all the wiring and the crappy handle.

Next thing was to mount the GoPro mount using a few drilled holes. Hole wasn't quite big enough but a small square file got it to fit snugly. Secured the mount with a cable tie as I'd like it to be removable for when I take the camera underwater snorkelling.

Once that was complete I was just a matter of attaching a small length of the pool noodle for floatation in case I capsize. Also the colour of the pool noodle helps other water users see a lowdown kayak when I'm out on the ocean or river.

To finish off I added a PVC pipe with some drilled holes to be used as rungs to raise or lower the camera pole to change the view. All in all a nifty, cheap and simple way to have a video camera on board. There are other things to add to it or make it simple with just a PVC piping but I didn't have access to any at home. The only thing missing from it is a cleat to be able to use a leash to secure it to my kayak as well.

Squid Inc. reacted to Kelvin in Salt and Pepper Squid Tentacle
Here is my version of a quick salt and pepper squid recipe. It made a nice addition to dinner.

I used a handful of tentacles, cleaned and cut into smaller pieces. I then ground my Chinese 5 spice powder in a mortar and pestle.  5 spice traditionally consists of star anise, fennel seeds, cloves, cinnamon and Sichuan peppercorns. I didn't have cinnamon sticks so just used powder instead. I also added celery salt, coriander seeds and chilli flakes but this is non traditional. If just using 5 spice powder, add some salt for taste.

I ground to a medium texture then mixed in with the squid then mixed in cornflour till a thick coating formed then fried in olive oil. Some versions serve with chilli and spring onion flash fried and sprinkled on top but I was too hungry to bother. I enjoyed this dish with jasmine rice.

Hi guys,Haven't been online for ages but thought I would share a personal triumph of mine and believe it or not caught this bad boy from my own tub which makes it so much more meaningful. Caught down the south east about a month ago after a long fishing drought due to building a house and losing my job amongst other things. Bled weight was 108kg caught on a billmark skirt in Lumo. Outfit was okuma makaira 80w on custom status deluxe game rod. Also released one of similar size aswell which we didnt get any pics of as we were only 2 up and put the fishes health 1st for the release. Also special mention to my mate Shaun who was a big part of this, this kind of fishing is definitely a team sport.cheers
