Drive a little further to a small town called Price it is the best kept secret in SA for small boats. It is very tidal but has a couple of channels that stay deep on the low.I started fishing this spot in the late 70s and still try to get there at least once a year.On the run out I would use  a heavy running rig with half a pillie and just about every bait would be hit by average to large salmon.Just to list a few of the fish I have caught in this spot.Salmon, eagle ray,The biggest flathead I have ever seen (please put them back they are the breeders) big snook, tommies, small sharks, yellow fin, mullet, elephant shark, mulloway(scoolies mainly) big crabs on line they just love pillies,.This spot fires up around the start of spring for flatties, on the low tide fish the edges of the channel.Salmon are there all year shitties are a problem in the middle of summer and some good whiting are about in winter at the end of the channel in about 3 ft of water. If you can get an arial photo of Price it would be a massive bonus just to see the hidden creeks that appear only at low tide.Burly is not needed as it is a natural burley stream in its self but if you want to some surfice burley does help with the tommies.Price is a day trip as you can only get in and out on high to mid tide in say an 18 ft boat as compared to a 12 ft tinny has access all day.The town has a caravan park and a good pub right next to it.Of all the places I have fished in my 54 years I still get very excited about Price and the prospect of a great days fishing.Give it a try put the time in and you will love it.

waterbird got a reaction from Seeseacol in Is this photo shopped?
Definitely photo-shopped - if you look carefully his hands are half open.
The enlarged crab has been edited into the photo afterwards - nice try though

The tides are at their highest and lowest around the new and full moon, which means there's more water movement. This will often result in increased fish activity.

There is also the solunar theory that says that effect of the pull of the moon in certain positions on a fish will affect it's feeding. Moon up and down (directly above or below) are prime times while moon rise and set are secondary times.

Here is SA around the quarter moon we get dodge tides which means almost no movement.

All of this stuff can be helpful when planning a fishing trip. When a few of these variables occur at the same time it can mean good fishing, but there's heaps of other factors as well.

I find it's interesting information to have, but don't live and die by this stuff. The best time to go fishing is whenever you can. Sometimes you'll do very well at the "wrong" time and learn something new about an area.

My oldest son and I have been hanging out to get the new look bertram of ours on the water and catching and relaxing..a last minute decision as the winds droped off seen us heading to Ardrossan. There was 8 trailers in the park and no pros wich was met with delight.we gathered our bait ..at ardrossan port jetty wich was a heap of slimy macks..we waited till around 100pm till we headed to my drops and look for signs of fish..first drop 4 km of ards no sign of fish move to the next drop south of ards called sarges..no sign of fish ..i was getting a little worried.so we headed to the combyvan ..was small fish around but i was looking for larger specimens. So of to my favorite drop mussle bed/lacounrues...as i was 200ft from the mark...the sounder lite up and the adrenaline was pumping i marked the fish on the sounder. we didnt even drop anchor. My son had a bait in the water withing seconds ..i droped my bait in staight away within 30 seconds double hookup of reds.. screaming drags i had my fish to the boat first so it was a little hard netting your own fish but managed ..hooks out put the fish back ..and hepld my son net his fish wich was a lovely looking fish with a big lump on it head .Fish returned quickly..back over the fish wich hadnt moved much..baits down bang on again. With big head shakes and power runs. Just luv it..fish boated and returned..the fish had moved a little and looks like we broke the school up ..we anchored up and mannaged another 4 bigish fish around 5kg then was swarmed by good sized ruggers .was back at the ramp before sun up and the heat started..but pleased with the 5 hour session will be over again soon in searh of that larger fish..

Took Sonar down to the beach tonight and what a sight greeted me / us. After throwing the ball for 10 minutes I dashed back to the shack (Radars Retreat) and grabbed the camera and took back for some photos to share with everyone.

Really to appreciate the atmosphere around me you had to be here, it was the best.

And then it was back to the shack with Sonar and a nice meal. He got the tuna and I got the oysters in rice wine vinegar, chillies, soya (sweet of course, just like me lol) and mint with ginger marinated for 1 hour in the fridge and then back to their shells on a bed of crushed ice and then..... destroyed one at a time, fantastic

    Cheers bon appetite.

I used to head to the local oval and practice casting with my old Abu many years ago.
Got a few looks from people, but who cares.
I just kept throwing sinkers and adjusting the spool tension until I felt it was right.
I recon I got to throwing around 100m or so, its good practice.
When doing the real deal you need to hit the brakes when you hit the water or 'you know what' will happen.

waterbird reacted to Tristman in wallaroo jetty snapper
My old man was hassling me to go fishing at wallaroo jetty for snapper, he had me in a headlock begging me.
So i gave in we hit the jetty a nine pm as that is the prime time for snapps at the jetty, we got to our spot at the jetty anchored up 45 meters away.

As the boat settled in with the wind and the tide, the old boy was in straight away (we like to free float at the jetty) he didint get the chane to put his rod down and he was on.
This was the result nice little wallaroo snapper
I proceeded to cast my rod for my first cast and this

Only spent two hours on the water 7 fish in total c@r lost a couple of horses to the structure, so there is good fish at the jetty at the moment was a cracker session.
