As Twain said "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated" but I can tell you I thought I was a gonna. Thanx to my family for quick action (Nick rang 911), the SA Ambo's and amazing staff at the QEH. Severe anaphalactic reaction to unknown source saw me soaking wet, unable to take a normal breath, swollen limbs, blurred vision and red rash all over. Very low blood pressure and erratic pulse saw me in hospital overnight. Drips in both arms and multiple adrenaline shots to stabilize and I am now home. I was sure I was having a stroke but have been assured that is not the case and heart & lungs are fine. Off tomorrow for testing and now have an Epipen as a constant companion. Thanx to all well wishers and again my family, I should be fishing again soon.

I just came across this beautiful specimen while browsing through Reddit, and thought it was pretty enough to share. According to the comments, it's either a California Golden Trout, or a palomino trout; either way, you'd have to get a kick out of reeling something like this in

Where are all the die hard winter weather fishos hiding out?

I must admit it's been a hard year to get out among the freezing cold temperatures and wet a line for me, there doesn't seem to be as much time as there used to be and it's so warm inside at home drinking beer

Thanks for that Barney, it was a reasonable run. We were very happy and who knows what the weather will be like on those few days in July and August.

Back to the report and a few pics.

We had a few delays on the way back with masses of weed blocking the intake causing some over heating as well as covering the sounder so it was a slow trip back to the ramp. What ramp???? For a new facility it was disappointing that there were no lights on or operating on the night we came back in. Nearly crashed into the break wall at the entrance. Note: remember to take the spot light next time. Backing the trailer was not that easy in pitch black and the reversing light on the trailer.

Decided to change my method of preserving as just drying them needed salt for thawing otherwise they just go very soft and mushy.
Thanks to Panga for your input as I had lost my notes from previous threads.

    100% Metho for one minute

I can hardly wait to try them out and compare the two methods out soon. I had a thought to put Tuna oil in some of the packets before freezing but time ran out. Would like anyone's thoughts about adding oil.

    That's all Folks, good fishing.

Headed out to "Moonta North" on Tuesday evening with my trusty deckie, three days after the New Moon to see if the bloods were running and to check out the new lights on the boat.
Launched a few hours before dark to sus out the spot and then moved out about 5kms for a little fishing till sunset. Did not expect to catch anything due to the timing of the Bloodworm run but what else do you do apart from look at the stunning scenery from the wind farms to the start of the Flinders Ranges. Expected to catch a few squid but surprise, surprise George decided to come to the party and had enough for a feed before we had to head off.
Moved back to spot x and sat around chatting and adding layers of clothes until about an hour after high tide before switching on the lights.
We had some severe reservations about being out worming this night because there were ZERO boats out apart from a pro that was out wide. Do the locals know something we don't???? Are there no worms to be had on this perfect June night?????

    No butterflies here.

Soon after turning on the lights we were again stunned by how alive the water was with small fast worms (I don't know what they are) and before long the first Bloodworm appeared out of the darkness. About 2 hours later we had about 4 litres of worms. We were allowed 8 litres but 4 was plenty and wanted to get back home by 2 am to get a few hours sleep

I will finish this report when I reduce the size of the pic files and let you know how we got on with the preserving and storage. Stay tuned.

    Hey Craig,

Great to see you have got some fish in and good to hear that they are swimming around nosing the surface, sound like you have some happy fish. Might pay to go down to your pond in the morning and following mornings (if your not at work) to check out if the see if the fish are swiming right on/breaking the surface, the fish may school up so that would help to spot them. Let me know if they are. Also, check to see if cormorants are drying their wings in the nearby trees. Just show a bit of presence if they are. With those massive daphnia, your fish should be putting on some weight soon. Keep us updated about your fish, cheers

KIDNEY SLAPPER reacted to Meppstas in Repaired broken Daiwa lure..
Some time back during the brown trout season I had three new Daiwa Gekkabijin Yoguri 4F hard body lures of which two were lost to fish taking then into snags under water and the last one
finished up with a broken bib thanks to me... It was during a session while fishing low water that had a lot of cotton like algae in it and it kept fouling the lure. After some forty minutes of fishing and
cleaning the algae from the lure on every retrieve I belted the lure on the water surface to clean it the quick & easy way. Trouble is, by doing that it broke the small bib off the lure  making it useless.
So today I thought I'd have a go at repairing it  myself by making a bib and gluing it in place. Using a hacksaw blade I made a small cut where the bib had broken off flush just in front off the eye and then found a small thin piece of clear plastic which I hand filed to a shape that I thought may work. Didn't think to get one of the new replacement lures out to see  what they looked like which was dumb.. any way made on and glue it into place and it came up reasonably well.. I think it did as I'm yet to test it out and I will do that once the season reopens on 5th August.. here's a photo of the original lure and the one that's been repaired.
The repaired lure has a little more angle to it than the new lure..

    cheers

I'm sure it will run a little deeper too, the bib angle is close to the Rapala F-3 lure.. how it goes, well only time will tell I suppose.. it may just want to go around in circles..

I have tried it out in the bird bath and the kitchen sink by hand and it did have some action to it, they weren't large enough though,  really need to give it a crack in a river, but that will have to wait until the season opens..

I'm pretty confident it will work..

    cheers
