yellow door 1 reacted to Squid Inc. in Mulcher suitability for burley
I use something similar & it works a treat. After Christmas & or Easter it gets a work out, oyster, prawn & crab shells + fish bits. We add bread to the bucket, stir & freeze into 1lt milk ctns to slip into the pvc pipe burley bomb.

Has anyone used this particular style of mulcher to make burley with
It’s the one with a spinning disk with 2 cutting blades.
Looks like it would be a nightmare to clean afterwoods
If there’s anyone with experience in making mulcher berley, I’d appreciate your thoughts

I’ve had some feed back and blokes reckon it will be sweet
So I Figured I just get the spade “filleting edge sharp” to cut the carp up into mulcher sized pieces 😉

Yeah you've got to want those marks bad, to go through the process
- but if you look at it philosophically. You are being handed info on a platter, which you may never work out for yourself in 20 lifetimes
Spinning those wheels, pales into insignificance, when you think about the blood, sweat, tears, man hours, cash, fruitless sessions and soul destroying frustration, that goes into establishing your own marks.
Thinking of that made it easier for me, anyway😉

GPS babel converts anything to anything gps (nearly) and is free.
Mind you I haven't used it for a while so check it out
Cheers

Get hold of a PC program called OziExplorer.
It cost around $100 but I reckon its worth it.
It can download marks from a csv spreadsheet (text file, display them on a chart and convert them to numerous GPS formats, including GPX
Or you can email them to me and I'll do it for you. I only fish SYP so you wont see my boat on your spots...... and I wont share (or sell) them either.

Cheers all
My mate (Matt Gorne) got a 11kg one, straight after I got mine.

I'm not into stinky Carp but late last year my mate Matt Gorne talked me into joining him in a metro session. By memory it was my 1st cast and I got this beast i.e. 95.5cm @ 14.36kg. Was also nice to have bumped into another S&H member while at the garage the other day, sorry mate I've forgotten your name.
PS thanks to doobie for sorting out a previous post

yellow door 1 got a reaction from Yorky in Tying and FG Knot - a simpler solution
Yeah I tried a whole heap of different hitches when I was having issues - Rizzuto, Grannies, even a thin smear of super glue etc and they all held better than standard. But when I switched my braid - I noticed it had way more grip so I went back to standard alternating hitches and didnt have a problem with them coming undone again.
I do have an FG I tied a year ago on a bait caster, I use it for casting practice in the back yard, and that has lost a few standard hitches but its still hanging on after over 1000 casts.
As a "hang over" from my light tackle breaming days - I usually retie my leaders before every session - so I have fresh knots and leaders with no knicks in them.
Its been so long since unraveling hitches has been an issue, I no longer even think it will happen.
If I needed my knots to last a whole season, I would definitely be using more intricate hitches - but as it stands - my standard hitches do what I ask of them

Its like this but you tie a figure 8 loop on your braid and loop that around your reel handle- instead of just wrapping it around
You can get your braid much tighter with a loop
then you just cut the loop off to tie your hitches

I do alternating hitches, as I had problems with them coming undone when doing them all on the one side.
But I think the problem was not enough tension on the hitches during tightening with a slippery braid like fireline
By the time I switched to alternating hitches, my braid had changed and so had my tying technique.
Finding a tying technique when I could apply alot of force to tightening my hitches was the most influencial factor in them not coming undone - followed closely by using a grippy-ier braid than Fireline.

G'day
Thanks Doobie and good luck with knot (with correctly tied half hitches 🙂
YD1, that's a great idea using just the rod, more options is good for changing circumstances
Cheers

There is a similar method where you tie a loop in your braid - run it through the rod and clip that loop back onto the handle of your reel.
The tension is supplied by your bent rod tip. Just don’t add to much tension so it snaps your tip
it’s always handy to have a method that doesn’t rely on extra props.
I tie them 2 different ways - one way on land that relies on a rod holder.
but I have a different method that requires no extra props, that I use out in the field where there are no props😉

Thought I better stick in a final shot. Epoxy on. Think I will leave it unpainted.

yellow door 1 reacted to Soobz in Rod tip repair
Some idiot broke the tip of my Savage Black rod. I've repaired it, so I thought I'd document it.
Damage was right at the very tip
I wanted to reuse the tip if I could, so I had to strip back the epoxy and remove the old rod graphite, a simple scrape with stanley knife exposed the wrap
I unwound that and measured the old tip thickness
No wonder it broke, so bloody thin
Removing the old rod section I was now not worried about damaging it so I used a hot air gun which would damage the resin of the graphite but hopefully not the eyelet but would melt any glue.
Easy peasy. I put a 1.4mm drill down it to clean out the gunk but was obvious the sleeve was 1.5mm to allow for glue space so I also put a 1.5mm down it
Forgot to take a photo, but the break was pretty clean and the break end on the remainder of the rod was 1.45mm so I decided to glue the tip straight on. I used superglue aka cyanoacrylate which apparently is commonly used.
To align it I used a bamboo skewer through 3 eyes with tape around it to match each eye diameter, a blurry photo but I think you get the idea
I then bound (wrapped) the eye end to the rod with 80lb braid and used a bit of superglue to hold that in place. I'm probably going to epoxy it as well.
I could have used thinner braid but this stuff I use for assist hooks and I liked the idea of a bright orange tip
The 6'10 rod is more like 6'9 now 😆, but at least it's not a bin job!

@yellow door 1 5 years now and I still have to be very careful not too sharpen too much

Fool proof. Most often found in butcher shops and suppliers.

Yeah thanks for the details - it interesting to hear others views on how to sharpen and why certain techniques are better than others.
If I filleted more fish, I might take it a bit more seriously - but I do alot of catch and release. So as long as my knives can go through a couple of carp or a few snapper and still be sharp at the end - thats all I ask from my knives.
I've still got my old stone - and in the back of my mind - I will get around to mastering it one day - but for now - my $6 knives will continue to get the rough treatment😉

This is sure to cause rage amongst stone lovers but I’m going to post any way😉
the Jarvis Walker deluxe knife sharpener is a brutal little unit, that will get a knife shaving sharp in a few strokes.
and for $10.50 you can get a sharpener and knife you can shave with.
