  1. second person to die in 2 weeks http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/man-drowns-near-port-noarlunga-jetty/story-e6frea6u-1226128768581
  2. Whole trout smoke better than fillets and there is less wastage.I like to brine all fish in a mix of salt and brown sugar.I sprinkle the salt and sugar directly on the fish and leave for a few hours in the fridge. The fluid will be pulled out of the flesh and form a brine. I then air dry till the fish is sticky then smoke.
  3. have seen them there before, but they are not that common a catch. August to September is the time to get them off the local jetties and beaches.Good eating if fresh and prepared properly.
  4. Compared to Daiwa, there are not a lot of mid sized mid to high end shimanos. You will be looking for something in the 4000 to 5000 size.Have a look at Stradic 4000 Ci4 or Twinpower 4000 FC or if you like baitrunners a Baitrunner 4000D or Thunnus Ci4
  5. Glad to hear you found a rod BombayDuck. Kelvin I thought the Daiwa Sea Jigger 315 was better suited to salmon fishing and casting lures as I thought it had a 8-17lb rating and Daiwa recommended a 3000-4000 sized reel for it??Is this the same rod that your reccomending..cheers Brett??The only reason I ask is that I was looking at buying the Sea Jigger 315 for fishing for snapper off the stones and if your saying its light enough for whiting and mullet then I will need to look at something else.Brett, I've got 2 seajigger 315s and 2 of the 305s. The 315s balance well with a shimano 2500 reel
  6. jigger 315 is long enough and will balance nicely with a 2500 reel. It is quite crisp and fast actioned but is a very nice rod to use.
  7. I don't think it is a bass. It lacks the deep fork caudal fin and lacks the distinct lateral line of bass.
  8. Bidyanus bidyanus or Acanthopagrus butcheri ?
  9. YFW or KGW? And bait or lure? For YFW, any bream spinning rod and reel will do fine. I prefer a longer softer rod for bait work. For KGW landbased, often you need a bigger cast to get out to the fish. I am using a pair of 10 foot seajigger (315) for my landbased and jetty work. The same rod can be used for gar, tommies, squid, whiting, and snook.
  10. I don't know how a Sooty Grunter would find its way here, where as numerous aquaponics enthusiasts have Jade Perch in SA and Adelaide. Here are a few more pics showing the natural variation in color of the species.http://www.ausyfish.com/jade_perch_pictures.htm
  11. Elephant sharks are good to eat if you like shark. They taste similar to Gummy and require similar preparation.
  12. Hard to go wrong for less than $20. What reel will you match it to?
  13. Plenty off Southport, but most are only just legal

    Yuck!!!

Looks like you have ruptured the gall bladder while gutting and released bile into the gut cavity. I would not be too worried, fillet and cut out the green stuff and it should be fine.

  16. Got some snook off Brighton jetty sunday night on SP.
  17. You can also get the wilson 8144 for cheaper if you shop around
  18. Ray and Anne have the sensor surf 13 foot for $249Very nice rod for the money
  19. Crabs moult by shedding their shells. Post moulting they are soft and contain less meat.
  20. Head to a popular squidding jetty (port noarlunga, brighton, glenelg) and watch the locals. An afternoon spent watching the old salts in action will teach you more than any book or internet forum. The various techniques are to cast and retrieve a squid jig or put a prawn jig or a wire jag with a tommie on it under a float. Many locals also use a tommie teaser to attract them in.Often local knowledge and location is very important as it is no good being where the squid are not.Off glenelg, the best spot is the end light fishing to the south. Off brighton the north west weed bed off the end is be
  21. Have a look this.http://www.strikehook.com/forum/35-bait-a-tackle/120709-livebait-systemEasy to knock up using an old esky and camp shower. They move and oxygenate a large amount of water. Mine still works and will keep a dozen tommies or mullet or hlaf a dozen ST alive all day.
  22. I usually wait till Anaconda have a bait sale. Have seen them down to $3 to $4 per kg for IQF quality pilchards. I usually stock up on a few kilos then.
