  1. I use a Shimano Starlo Stix Lucanus Jig Spin. Rated PE 1 to 3 and rod cost about $100. I run 30lb. It handles 8oz of lead and balances fine with a 5000 size reel.
  2. Caught yesterday off O Sullivan's Beach101cm and 13.65kg (30lb)
  3. I spent a month on Lord Howe Island a few years back.Due to the island's isolation, the Charter Operators hold a commercial liscence to sell the catch. You are allowed to take enough for a feed and the rest of the days catch is the property of the boat. The fresh fish are processed daily and sold to all the resorts and residents and the general store. The scraps are fed daily to the kingfish on Neds Beach
  4. It was either K Mart or Big W
  5. 6/0 octopusGamas or Mustad Big Red
  6. They have two big sharp claws on the front. I have caught YFW and bream on them but after been bitten a few times, I release all Mantis shrimp I catch.
  7. Are you referring to Mantis Shrimp?http://www.glaucus.org.uk/Mantis.htmI have found the saltwater yabbies to be a superior bait.
  8. I went there last year.Plenty of fish from Kingscote jetty and got some whiting off Emu bay.http://www.strikehook.com/forum/44-fleurieu-peninsula/68881-ki-over-the-weekend
  9. I have a pair of Bainrunner D 4000s which are smaller than a Baitrunner B 3500. I have caught bream on them but they are a bit big for the average bream.Have a look at the Baitrunner DL 2500.They are the right size for bream. I am looking at getting two myself. They are also cheaper than the 4500 Bs
  10. Maybe check Ray and AnnesThey stock the Duel Hardcore minnowshttp://www.rayannes.com.au/daiwa-shimano-reels-australia/lures/small-hard-body-lures-bream-trout-salmon-trout-etc/duel-hardcore-minnow-110f-smiw/
  11. As long as the guys were not using burley around swimmers and the shark was used for food, then I have no problem with it.
  12. Looks good DarrenShould be a good imitation of a shrimp or small saltwater yabbie, with orange egg sac, feelers and legs.
  13. Hi JewieThe molds are Do-It Style ZV Vibrating Lure Moldhttp://www.do-itmolds.com/prodmolds.aspx?c=43You can get them a few places onlinehttp://www.luremaking.com/catalogue/catalogue-index/catalogue-items/molds/shad_blade_molds.htmhttp://www.jannsnetcraft.com/do-it-bladebait-mold/025724033318.aspxhttp://lurepartsonline.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=971Jeff Frogley Agencies are the australian dealer and I have sources Do-It jig head molds through them via my local tackle shop previously, but they worked out much much cheaper online.
  14. I have been playing around with a few more colors
  15. Technically, I guess any of the Family Hexanchidae could be refered to as 'ground sharks' or 'cow sharks'http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cow_sharkhttp://www.fishnames.com.au/fishnames/fishnames.php?pid=85The Broadnose seven gill shark (Notorynchus cepedianus) is the one most commonly caught commercially and recreationally. However the Sharpnose Sevengill Shark, (Heptranchias perlo) is occasionally sold commercially.
  16. Knocked up a few more using a clear plastic CD divider cut up for the blade blank. These look great and at 3cm long should be great for tommies.
  17. Fireline for general purpose light tackle work. For bream gear I use Sunline castaway. Expensive but handles really well.
  18. Thought I'd share a few DIY projects I have been working on. I recently purchased a vibrating blade lure mold and some blade blanks and have knocked a few blades. They have an awesome action and I am customizing a few by painting with nail polish and sticking on some eyes and silver scales. Best of all they come in at only a few bucks each
  19. For those chasing mullies landbased, I thought I'd share my livebait system.I made up a livewell for Yak fishing the Hobie Westlakes round last year. It is portable and the system works just as well on shore. The container is an esky. I cutdown a $30 battery operated camp shower, cut off the shower head and plumbed it into the esky. This connects to some hose pipe with small holes to throw a spray of water across the waters surface. An outlet drain and it is done.I can put this on the edge of water westlakes and drop the intake and outlet over the side. It can fill the esky in a few minutes an
  20. Only $130 including line from Ray and Annes
  21. eg.http://www.mustad.no/australia_nz/standard/s_34007_b.htm
  22. There are no standardized hook sizes. They vary a fair bit between brands. Also Circle and Big Mouth Hooks can vary greatly from the same sized J Hook.In general terms a size 1 hook is a good size for bream. They get bigger in number as they get smaller. A size 4 or 6 is good for whiting upto a size 12 for gar and even size 20 for trout flies. For bigger hooks the sizing goes 1/0, 2/0, 3/0 upto 12/0 shark hooks are even bigger. You can find sizing charts for Mustad Hooks and I find these a good reference point as these are the brand I use most. But other makers will have differing sizes.
  23. Pearl Watermelon is a great color. It has long been a favourite for bream but also works for snook tommies and ST.
