  1. There was also a 70+cm Snapper washed up between Seacliff and Brighton
  2. Im off to Ki for 7 days staying at Vivone Bay
  3. Ive had a SWB MQ Patrol and am currently in a Pajero and although the patrol was good Id have to say the Pajero is a lot better in the sand. Last time I went to Salts I was with a mate in his Landcruiser and my little Paj ran rings around him.
  4. Ive got the same reel matched to a Willson Mulloway rod, Havent landed anythig yet on it but did have a big run and good fight on the Far West Coast (possably big toothy) and it worked like clockwork, even after spending a week on the beach with little maintinance and getting sand blasted one night. Only fault I have found was during the fight I somehow mannaged to hit the reel lock (casting lever) turning the reel sideways and dropped a loop of line around the handels resulting in a big bust off, but appart from that Im happy with it.
  5. I would go with Johns Marine Transport I used to work for him and his gear is good and will do a good price phone number 0882424000 and speak with Robert Johns he owns the show. I know that they are up there weekly.
  6. As far as more sightings are concerned there are actually LESS sightings this year than at the same time last year. Up until yesterday I have been notified of 7 (from the shark plane and this has only been in the air for a week and a half), and from November until last weekend only 8 frm the SLSA helicopter on the weekends, and they were actually between 150m to around 500m out and most of them have been away from the jetty. BTW today there have been no sightings.
  7. Dont brand all Surf Life savers with the same brush because of ONE club president who dosent know shit from clay. I can tell you that as a Surf Lifesvaer it is not my view and also not the view of many of the other lifesavers that I deal with. If you want to bag someone then write letters to the president of the mentioned surf club to set him straight. He gets on the band wagon every year at this time because there are a few sharks spotted at his beach, if you remember last year he sprouted on about crabbing from the jetty when the sharks showed up, hell thers 6 beaches along the coast that ha
  8. People just for your information 99.9% of the shark sightings along the metro coast are Bronze Whalers. As a person that gets contacted every time a "shark" is spotted along the coast I am aware of only one white last summer that was closer than 1km from shore. I love the water and surf, dive, spearfish, sail, fish and boat all along our coast line and accept the risk that I am taking every time I enter the water. How would I feel if it were a family member probably angry and upset but would not blame the governmet for not doing any thing. I understand that human nature is such that we need to
  9. RangerHe makes me look like small. I think that he wants extra line on the spool and increase the line size incase he gets onto a good fish, but like I said if he looses the line on the spool that hes got the fish aint gonna stop no matter how heavy the line is.
  10. thanks thats what I told him but thought I would put it out here as well
  11. Hi all just throwing this out for a work mate. He has a Saltiga 6000 and is wondering if the spool from the 6500 will fit this reel so that he can get more line on. Any feed back would be appretiatedMoose
  12. The bouys that you seen were placed out there for the Southern States IRB (inflatable rescue boat) Challange that we ran against the Vics on the weekend, and when all strung out comprises of 27 cans on 3 strings. And just for info SA won the day by 9 pts and yes we are a dedicated lot and train nearly all year round when the racing stopes at the end of July we then get the people that want to get various awards traning so that they are ready for the new patrol season. Back to the boat in the picture Im pretty sure that they were placing the concrete blocks for the underwater scuba trail that r
  13. My mum has a photo of me with a Gar taken from Pt Hughes Jetty when I was all of three years old taken with a hand line that my Grandfather set up and cast out for me. and have been told that I was as happy as a pig in poo when I got it in.
  14. BCF have them for $69 with a free rod in there latest catalog
  15. dig a few holes just above the water line (preferably above the high water mark) and fill it with pillie or fish bits then cover back over with sand, so that the wave action will eventualy wash the bits out but not all in one hit. When we fish Salt creek we use this method and it seems to work (not for me but the blokes I fish with). Have found that the rolling cage method seems to get washed up onto the beach or just gets in the way but it works well
  16. great footage cant help but be impressed by these critters.
  17. Ive got both wilson 5120 and a snyderglass and can recomed them both up to you in the long run and how much you want to fork out for the rod.
  18. Tyke the money dosenot go to the club, although they want the club to man the ramp on the weekends and take the money. If I remember rightly the club got $1500 for the year/season to do it but its not worth the agro you got from some people.
  19. Carps if you go down there on a weekend you will have to pay (i think its $10 now could be wrong havent been down there in a while) just to get off the ramp and onto the sand, but alas having been involved with the Surf club there I can say that the fact that they pay is of noconcern to them as they then feel that they have the right to do what ever they want. What these dicj heads dont relise if that a cop comes along thy can still be charged with hoon driving as the beach is clasafied as a road and as such all road rules apply. Aust day weekend just gone was a perfic example of this as he cl
  20. The plane is operated by UNI SA and the spotter is someone from either UNISA or SES. The plane is used to spot sharks in the summer months and is all to do research for the uni. The biggist problem they have is that they are flying as slow as they can go to stay in the air and it takes them 1km to complete a full turn. I'm not bagging them but if they see ANY thing in the water they presume that it is a shark (I have first hand knowledge of this as I get the phone calls from the police). There is a seal floating around at the moment around Semaphore and it is a rather large one. The procedure
  21. Gulp sandworms in camo are the ones I had succses with but have found that the finer guage the hook the better the fishing, found a jig head called a cobra and these have a fine hook, thats whats been working for me.
  22. Mine came about from a couple of work mates when I was driving trucks. Was in WA and they ot up early and said that the sounds comming from my sleeper sounded like a wild moose, and the name has stuck ever since
  23. Dont know if any one was sharking there last night but there were toothies around the out let late yesterday arvo feeding on the carp that washed out. Not bad timing a very conveniante "malfunction", the fact that it hasent happend b4 and that they closed the lake the previous day due to BGA outbreak, me smels a rat. Also the council has advised that you do not enter the water around the outlet, down to west beach and along to grange. It (the shitty water) made it all the way down to Semaphore last night
  24. Yeh there was a massive school of salmon there at the time
