  1. Pretty much agree with what everyone has written already. It's popular in New Zealand so do some googling for some New Zealand fishing websites for more info. As mentioned there are a few different "styles" of kite fishing, from drag and dropping baits to trolling lures behind the kite.I toyed with the idea for a while, but in all honesty after doing some research it looked like it would add a fair bit more complexity to a simple land based fishing trip. I have enough trouble managing a single rod cast off the beach, so I could only imagine what sort of mess I would end up with trying to co
  2. Awesome video mate , thanks for sharing it.Looks like your mate has a nice rig there. Cruisecraft 685 by the looks?
  3. Yeah some go way harder than others. Not sure what size gear you are using but the first time we chased them the tackle we were using was probably more suited to 30-40kg fish, so it wasn't overly hard to have a 16kg fish in the boat within 1-2 minutes - lol. Hook a 16kg fish on some lighter tackle (like you would normally use for snapper fishing) and I reckon you will find they will give your arms a work out. I hooked a 16kg tuna on tackle as described above and it took me 20 minutes to get it in. Everytime I'd get it within 3-4m of the boat it would take off on another blistering run. Got
  4. Some good news for once regarding tuna stock recovery..http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/huge-south-australian-tuna-hauls-follow-rapid-recovery-in-stock/story-e6frea83-1226563719690
  5. They probably spent a million or so working with a group of academics coming up with a suitable design. Little did they realise all they had to do was copy the shape of a car body, or trolley or engine block.... seems to work for us southerners
  6. Terrific write up and video! Those underwater shots were really cool. Thanks for sharing.
  7. For a moment I thought I could provide you with some answers to your questions when I read the thread title.... then I realised you wrote "Southern Beaches", not "Southern Bitches" ..
  8. I went yesterday with the kids. I wouldn't say we found thousands (the kids helped for all of 5 minutes, then made sand castles for the rest of the time), but probably a couple of hundred in an hour or so, but they were all big. I used a combination of sitting in the wash and digging for them with my hands, and digging for them with a little foldable shovel.I saw another bloke using an interesting technique which looked to be effective. Had a little wire basket the size of a small bin, and using a long handled shovel just kept digging and putting all the sand in the basket. As the water ru
  9. You're nearly there - any chance of being more specific?
  10. How about fitting an electric winch, with the battery located on the drawbar? Removes the problem of manual winching altogether.
  11. Cool video. Where abouts were you fishing? From some of that footage it didn't look like it was in Backstairs passage.
  12. Sales of fish tanks and eels in Elizabeth have just gone up 800%.
  13. Yes I am in some situations, but I'm probably of the thought that just because a fish swims away doesn't mean it lives to fight another day.
  14. Hi Tony,What specifically are you trying to achieve by campaigning? Are you trying to raise funds so the jetty can be brought for public use, or are you hoping that the campaign will inspire the local council or state government to buy the jetty and make it available for fishing?Firstly, Mobil own the jetty, so no idea whether they they would want cash for it, or would simply transfer ownership. If they wanted cash, then I have no idea what a jetty sells for, but I reckon it wouldn't be cheap. Even if it is simply handed over, thousands, if not millions of dollars would need to be spent mak
  15. I understand what you're saying Ale, but my point was it's not unusual to catch squid on another lure intended for something else. The way I read that story in the link, to me wasn't suggesting the author was planning on targeting squid using poppers from now on, he was merely saying he's caught a few using poppers - which to me isn't overly surprising considering where he's fishing (shallow weed beds).
  16. Nothing unusual about that report. I've caught squid on various different types of lures intended for fish and not squid, had them attack paternoster rigs with cockle as bait while whiting fishing and even had them attacking floats. When they're hungry, and particularly when there is a few of them in the water, they will attack anything that moves, even if it is floating on the surface.
  17. Awesome video. Great to see a school like that in the shallows. Thanks for sharing.
  18. I fish down that way and I find the KGW just as hard to catch there as anywhere else! Having said that, they usually are much bigger than metro fish.
  19. This is likely the saurian in better days:
