Head locks are the way to go! Was catchin easy 10 to 12lb salmon with 20lb braid fully locked up and didn't bend one! Man those salmon fight hard wen you lock up the drag from the boat, couple even snapped the 20lb braid!

I believe the seaweed may be from the high winds we had over the last couple of days! Usually get it washing up after storms etc!! Can't see the weather/ wind havin an effect on baby leatheries ,also the baby dolphins plus I've seen puffer fish and heard some silver whiting have washed up also and now a report of a 70cm snapper! Are they all a coincidence or something bigger? I hope not...... Maybe if it was just the 1 species being effected It could be a desease in just that 1 species, but for these other fish/ dolphins to wash up makes me think something more to this story!

Pretty sure at the trolling speed you want to do with a paravane makes it dive around 7-8 m deep so you can't troll too shallow I usually won't go lower than 10 m deep with a paravane plus I've never had one on a rod they have too much weight/drag/pull or watever while trolling so I've only had them on handlines, then tie off to your rear cleats and sit and wait for the paravane to pop up!! Easy

Plastics this summer from the boat has completely smashed any metal or hb I've tried ! Ya do loose a few to bite offs but your getting heaps more hits etc!!! A few plastics I use are the squidgy poddy mullet around 80mm size , drop bear think that's the name of it , white one with orange throat and a black spot! Anything in pilchard colour should work! Try get the stealth pro bream jig heads coz they have a longer bigger hook so less bite offs! You can change up your retrieve from a slow wind to normal twitches and pause, as most hits are on the pause as its sinking back down just watch your line like a hawk while doin this! Best time has been on the run in tide for me, and also in very shollow water anywhere from Marino to Hallet cove! Oh and ive been using 12 lb fluro carbon leader, sometimes still not thick enough for bite offs!Good luck!

Don't forget the snapper wings!!!!! My fav recipie is just make up a normal salt pepper flour mix, coat the wings with your mix then brush with nice olive oil then bake in the webber for around 45 minutes!!!! Sounds like a long time but all good! usually chuck them in while we cooking a whole pansized at same time!So moist n deliciousness!!!

Where's the pic of this bream then? Surely if you know your fishing you would know this is a rare, rare capture!! And there for the first thing u would do is take a picture............... Especially if you took a picture of a shovel nose shark the same night! Assuming they were caught the same night ? People just want proof! And are you sure it was a yellowfin and not a black bream? Just confirming !!!!

Just a warning guys, that there has been a lot of car break ins at the ramp last two weeks, 3 cars last night and not sure on how many last Thursday but was a few also! It's been the cars that have been there overnight getting done, smashed windows , ransacked etc...... Bloody c@&k heads! Why do this ? Hope they get caught. Maybe for this busy period security should be provided, this has been going on for two weeks now and nutting has been done! Surely cop cars every half to and hour doin a patrol is NOT unreasonable is it???? One guy had his two baby seats in the back of the car with smashed glass all over them, felt so sorry for the bloke as he may have to replace them as well if cant be cleaned on top of stolen items, smashed glass etc! Hope the people get hit by a truck actually , if they get caught they prob just do it again!!!!Sorry for the bad news guys. Cheers !

Spot on there jack! I'm not sure why the comment about we are all guilty of some sort of illegal fishing was made! I would hope that most fishers go by the rule book coz they are smart enough to realise this Is how we will have fish for the future!!!!
-
Yes true but there's not much out there except snapper the odd shark and slimy macks, so unless they are going for those last two species, why be out there?????????? For all we know that's wat these boats could have been going for but highly unlikely and suss if you ask me!!!!!

Got to o sullies ramp late today for a quick snook flick and a snorkel around some reefs today. As I was putting the boat in the water today the shop guy was on the ramp saying there was a snapper floating in the marina and was just letting people know ir was there, I thought oh yeah could have been a decent one! As we started to leave the ramp we motored over to it and it was a 10 kg specimen! My blood started to boil .... It was fresh too! Some knob head must have caught it kept it and the come into the marina and dumped it, in thinking fisheries must have been there and then these douche bags got scared and dumped it overboard to waste away! Can anyone confirm if fisheries were at osullies this arvo????? Very interested! I wish these tools got caught!! Why are they even fishing for snapper ATM! This snapper was huge I doubt it was a whiting rod by- catch! I know u can get good size ones on light gear but seriously I think this one was targeted! It's just suss to me! Plus ive seen a few boats out on barges n other snapper drops this week which is suss too! Unless they going for sharks or snapper there ain't a reason they should be out there ! That fish at the ramp tho is really pissing me off!!! That fish was at least 30 years old and some1 illegally caught it and then dumped it!!!Sorry for my rant guys but this is not good and I just don't get why people think they are above everybody else plus the law!

All I know is, there is a small window of time that is actually fishable as the current rips thru there! Youll prob get smashed by snapper too lol!!! I also would like To hear any info on this area as it is a huge area to find the fish! I'll be watching this thread! Cheers

People are so stupid! These sharks are here and in this close all the time this is where they drop their pups, they are there regardless if people are fishing for them or not! The ban is a crock of .......... These blokes are just putting baits in their path of where they swim! It's probly safer that the shark is eating a dead bait rather than a person foot anyway! Not that bronzies really attack people! Then the shark is scared shitless that it's just been caught and piss bolts away from the beach and swimmers so therefore it's probably safer they are being caught dnd realesed !

Yeah I thought I'd let that 'BIG' shark thing go! If he thinks 70cm is big for a shark hell get a rude shock when mr white rocks up!!!!! Lol
-
I think we thought they were 7 gills as there are heaps off o'sullies drops ATM and you said they were a dead weight, as at that size they don't do much and are dead weights! And gummies of that size especially the 70cm one usually fight better and you would at least no you've got a fish on rather than reef or just a dead weight! Weird ! Big ones go hard!

Just checking, this was caught in salt water yeah or was it in fresh?
-
THE BEST way to catch them hands down is with a surface burley and a mag minnow in pilchard color , just get the burly going and when u see them goin nuts just cast it in the burley trail and they'll nail it, could literally get thousands if u want!!! Good fun on light gear too! Plus no need to rebait!

yeah no worries jimbojames i may have to take u up on that offer, will pm you went im free to have a crack.cheers mate

cheers fellas i will try around the mouth, yeah not really into bream so if i caught even a huge one id still let him go, i thought the same about the small bream, woulndt even consider using them as a bait for mullies as they are illegal to use and they seem to be much spinier than say a mullet. they just were anoying me as thats all i was catchin apart from heaps of trumpies too. and they were stealing all my bait.cheers

Went for a mully fish today guys and got my first onka mully, it went 50cm then swam off to grow a bit bigger for me next time. caught it on my luvias certate combo with 20lb braid so no problems there, also used a 3/0 circle with a 20lb flurocarbon leader. Nicley hooked in the corner of the jaw. love those things. My question is tho....how and where do people get their livies, i mean i had no problem getting trumpeters or small bream, i only got 1 salmon trout and thats wat i got the mully on, people tell me trumpeters and small bream are awsome baits but i could not even get a sniff on em,i would love to know if there is a better way or place to get mullet or salmon trout as i think they do the job better, do people catch them around the mouth and then transport them to their mully spot or do u just get them where ur fishing with different bait or bearly or whatever, any info would be great as i can only catch thousands of trumpies and small bream, i think i would have done alot better with ST's and or mullet.this was also my second only mullie ever, as i caught another smaller one at salt creek a while ago, so pretty keen to catch more as they put up a brilliant fight.cheers guys, looking forward to your help if you have any.

What's the worst or funniest fishing session you've had?

Wasn't even on my fishing session yet! So this was fairly annoying, i was getting ready at home wen I was unpackaging some new salmon lures and I was trying to cut off the zip tie off the treble that held the cardboard packaging on and I yanked it pretty hard and the treble went straight into my right index finger. Was really painful until I got the metal lure off, tried my heart to pull it out with pliers but wouldn't budge, plus pain was a fair bit while doing that, so went to the hospital got an X-ray and turns out the hook point was 2 mm into the bone so that's why I couldn't pull it out. Had to get my finger cut open either side of the hook to get the bugger out. Even then it took the docs a bit to get it out. Anyway don't like trebles much anymore, wish it was just a normal flesh wound so I could cut the barb off and pull it out the other way. Lol all good tho.
