  3. Good topic SSI generally buy something that simply "looks" that it might be a fish-catching device, whether it's the shape, colour, pattern or supposed technological superiority...(sometimes a recommendation in a fishing mag. may do it for me).Mind you, I'm probably one of those poor suckers that is a prime example of "lures catching more fishermen than fish"!Having said that, a "gut feeling" with lure choice has often paid off..Cheersaf
  4. I know I'm drawing a long bow with my limited knowledge, but can we use Redfin Perch as an analogy? Small populations of large fish vs large populations of small (runt) fish?Tonyb - your knowledge of (freshwater!) reddie populations would be welcome to this debate...Cheersaf
  5. Hi AllThis query is directed towards anyone who has intimate knowledge of mullet or the Onkaparinga River or (preferably) both.Yesterday afternoon I was flicking some HBs around from the SLSC footbridge to fill in a bit of time. I was amazed at the number of mullet hanging around – even non-fisho passers-by were commenting. There were schools and schools and schools of them – predominantly all legal size and above, with a few real thumpers (I estimate 40cm +). Is it possible that this is an annual spawning run, or is there perhaps another explanation?I look forward to any responses which m

  13. Man, it sounds like you've had a tough run of late, aff... Usually bad luck tends to run in threes (or so common wisdom says)...but you seem to have comprehensively destroyed that theory. Here's hoping your 2012 is a whole lot better.Cheersaf

  17. kkThat's why I posed the original question to Murphysegg as to how "serious" he/she wanted to get, as I wasn't sure what the proposed use would likely be. Your point on ground clearance is taken, but the old rule about driving within the capabilities of both yourself AND your vehicle still applies. Many years ago I took my Forester (the first model to come out) through Litchfield NP in the Territory into the "Lost City" (very carefully, I should add!) and surprised the hell out of a few other people running around in Troopies and Cruisers. I have also heard of a Forester towing a small 'van ov
  18. Some of you may have seen this before:"Definition of a 4WD vehicle: a very effective means of getting further into mud or sand before becoming inextricably bogged"
  19. Dunno how "serious" you want to get with your proposed 4WD, Murphysegg...However, you might be surprised how far a Subaru Forester with manual gearbox and low range can get you. You could pick up an earlier model for within the price range you mentioned, and the fuel bill for running around town won't kill you either.Cheersaf
  20. Spotted an ad for these while reading an older "Fishing World" mag. in the waiting room of my dentist last week:http://www.spinestackle.com/spinestackle-home.htmA couple of questions:1. Has anybody on this site used them before? (I had a quick look on the web and there seem to be mainly positive comments. I also like using double ["W"] hooks on lures as an alternative to trebles - especially if fishing weedy areas.)2. Does anyone know if they are stocked anywhere in Adelaide? (I know I can order them online, but I'd prefer to support a local business, if possible.)Cheersaf
