Hey buddyI have a 13ft sensor surf, it is a great rod but plankton is right I wouldn't feel comfortable casting massive baits and sinkers on it. Pilchards, squid and smaller to medium fillets of fish no problem. A lot of people swear by the wilson M144, I don't have one but I have heard good things, they are heavy though. But hey you don't always need to cast massive baits to catch decent fish either

Cheers fella's unfortunately the charter I was suppose to go on this Sunday has been cancelled due to bad weather, so I would still like to wet a line a some point this weekend I am just trying to work out where. Will these westerly's make it difficult to fish everywhere?
-
Considering the weather is looking so bad this weekend, who is thinking about hitting porties this weekend? and what day would be best do you think?Cheers

Call the local tackle shop, they can let you know

Some people must be born with rocks in their heads, disgusting

Yep Alan Hawk rated the 08 stella 94/100 making it in his eyes the best spinning reel ever made, you could probably only get them brand new now online. Looks as if the 10 saltiga is the way to go this time around between the two.

It is a great read and his reviews are by far the best you will find. He doesn't seem at all impressed with the price he paid as the previous model was cheaper and built with better parts, which is a shame. It looks as if the 08 stella and 10 Saltiga are still the best spinning reels money can buy; followed buy the Penn torques which he says will be the most reliable by far and you could even pass down to your kids if you wanted lol

Must read review, definitely not what I expected. Maybe I should save my pennies for the older model.http://www.alanhawk.com/reviews/13SW.html

I have never salted pillies, but just make sure your bait is as fresh as possible and minimize the amount of times it defrosts and then is refrozen. Buy them fresh and try keep them frozen until you go fishing.

I would be pretty tempted by a custom built miller rod as well!!!!
-
Cheers Fella's I guess the obvious target for them is salmon, but I have seen mullies taken on them aswell, so I was just keen to hear what people thought about them.Cheers

Hi GuysJust wanting to know what success people have had with the shimano waxwings, love the idea just wanted a little feedback from people who have actually used them.CheersRaider

I would go the stradic FJ if possible. Jump on to the Alan Hawk website as he discovered that Daiwa has downgraded a number of parts in the exceller so I wouldnt buy one anymore.http://www.alanhawk.com/reviews/news.html

I guess that's pretty good feedback, I did see it on the SA angler fb page the other day!

What are peoples thoughts about these? Ray and Annes have the 2000 atm for $199. They look good but any idea on how they perform. I cant find too much dirt I want to find out if they are a bargain or junk.Raider

That is good news, not to sure about increasing the quota by 10% already though
-
I reckon thats about as good as it would get, congrats awesome fish
-
10-20 pound Gloomis GL2 would match it well, I have one love it! 20pond sunline would go well on the stradic aswell
-
Same here I went to Southport yesterday for the 1st time hoping to catch some of those famous south metro salmon,I foul hooked an undersize one and that was all I saw for the 4 hours I was there, heaps of anglers and no fish..shoulda stayed closer to home and tried st kilda, seems its firing
-
Cheap tools would probably work aswell, things like small spanners. I have seen them used as jigs before cant see why they wouldnt work
-
Might be a little late because it looks like your set on the t curve, but dont forget the gloomis gl2, ray and annes have them for $199! I have a 10-20 pound model with my rarenium 4000 and love it, they are sweet rods
-
Mine would have to be my Shimano rarenium 4000 matched to a Gloomis GL2.. I love it...Caught small snapper on it, but cant wait to really test her out

Thanks guys great advice, I think I will personally avoid pulling it apart, so who are your recommendations? I heard South Oz rods can service reels quite well. Who is Rob wilson might check it out
