  1. Aah, Lexi, beat me to it...A fair way down for non-diving recfishers to be responsible. It was supposedly tied to the buoy rope?A "false flag" effort not inconceivable - hey, here`s a dead shark, what can we do with this...? Cutting off the fins would target the obvious minority there, but if we leave it pretty well intact that opens up the horizons, etc...a couple of hours later...hey world, look what we came across!!!The location is interesting too. Now, the bolded bits piqued my interest;"Dr David Powter, a senior environmental science lecturer at Newcastle University's Ourimbah campus, says
  2. Some recommended reading for any recent sharkfishing arrivals on SH...http://www.pir.sa.gov.au/pirsa/media_list/fisheries/update_to_metropolitan_shark_fishing_rules
  3. JimboYou may be technically correct re advertising, but to be fair I am looking at it more from the perspective of gratis information provision. It may be of benefit for our overall cause to have a seat in the upper house next year occupied by the Fisher/Shooters or SAFLP.WA have one seat (nearly got two apparently), NSW have two...so a little advance clarification on here is probably no bad thing?I am not so much interested in the self-spruiking in relation to finer detail to the n-th degree, but would certainly like to know what the story is with mutual cross-preferencing for both parties...f
  4. Ale - not being one of the FSA-annointed, what "protest" are you referring to? Please tell me it`s not something crazy like CBD boat trailers during peak hour, as has been suggested in a RecreationFishersVoice facebook site post...that would be great publicity for the cause and would generate so much public empathy for same.Not.
  5. One could almost read something into that statement? (I did say "could" and "almost"...)
  6. Spiny and BentThat is interesting with regard to blue-throats, we`ve always released them (unless we need to top up our lobbie bait supply).True story with the adequate palatability? Well, I never...and the fight is fun, the larger ones seem to feel like a monster KGW...Blue groper - meh, edible, but with us having had the culinary experience any caught go straight back. Pass.Didn`t really float our boat I must say. Personally, if they end up being protected in SA then no great loss to the taste buds.
  7. AFThe Hark link is topical for me - a mate bought one of these earlier this year and we christened it on a trip in Aprilhttp://www.hark.com.au/index.php?route=product/product&path=24&product_id=80Not cheap at $400-ish, but does the business to be sure.(BTW we found out the hard way with the second lot - go very conservative on the saltiness of the brine mix, recipe or no recipe!) But moving slightly off-subject, this one caught my eyehttp://www.hark.com.au/index.php?route=product/product&path=24&product_id=88Looks a lot like what is marketed by ALDI in Vic as the "Coolab
  8. No, No, No, you guys must be telling porkies! It`s the biggest and best ever...look, I read it right here...http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/biggestever-adelaide-boat-show-on-at-wayville-until-sunday/story-e6frea83-1226667014855 [and Ta for the advice BTW]
  9. Options are being looked at by all parties it seems, note the third parahttp://www.exxonmobil.com.au/Australia-English/PA/about_what_rs_adelaiderefinery_demolition.aspxBut this will likely be a very long process!https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Stanvac,_South_Australiauhf - the jetty snapper account you gave is exactly why I suspect, if the jetty is to be retained and recfishing permitted, a "Noarlunga jetty" approach would be an absolute requirement.
  10. Chuckemback - that is a potentially "inconvenient" question, one that had crossed my mind too as it happens...
  11. Rotare Just to clarify, I too have questioned the logic of the footbridge from the outset. I think you may have missed my sarcasm when I said"to save a slightly bigger "minority" a 300-400 metre walk" And my approach is that the Stanvac jetty retention may or may not be a dumb idea but let`s have a closer look at the pros and cons while the option to do so is there - you however appear to have categorically formed the opinion that it is unquestionably a dumb idea??? Once again, let`s get all the information on the table before making a decision?`Tis all I`m saying...an informed outcome beats
  12. Keep in mind that Mobil are required to restore the site, jetty dismantling and removal would have to be in the seven figure sum area. I have read figures of between 7 and 10 mil being mentioned. In lieu of going through the dismantling process, the money is paid to the gummint, thus "seeding" costs spoken for?Bricks suggested a "user pays" scenario, for argument`s sake call it a few bucks per head. Just one possible initial outcome - toilets (and possibly a kiosk ultimately) halfway along, jetty (initially at least) open daylight hours only (night-time bogan vandal factor spoken for), if there
  13. ale All (sadly) very true, but I am not sure that a potential joint-user outcome should be dismissed out of hand purely for the reason that the fisheries enforcement arm of PIRSA is under-resourced.The same argument could also be used to - ban any LB fishing in SZs just because some people may fish outside the areas where this is proposed to be specifically permitted in SZs- agitate for a complete gulfs snapper ban of three months Nov-Jan inclusive because some people might fish in the proposed spatial closure areasetc etcI stress there is no way I would support a whole-of-jetty "go for it fel
  14. Voted Yes, an "on balance" decision, but bearing in mind the rather important caveat as indicated by RJ. I have previously stated in this forum on another thread that I have reservations about opening it up to fishing (most certainly adjacent boat fishing!) but on further reflection there is the possibility of a win-win middle ground, without compromising the overall integrity of what effectively has been a de-facto aquatic reserve for donkeys years.ale (and others) Exactly my initial thoughts, hence the personal reservations.I myself would be more likely to go for a walk along the thing wit
  15. brendanc Respectfully beg to differ - it was a politically and ideologically driven construct due to the sensibilities and, more to the point, "sensitivities" of mum/dad/kids or beach suburb residing moralising labradoodle-walking yuppies being affronted by the sight of someone reeling in a bronzie. The restrictions were brought in notwithstanding this advice to the Fisheries Council nearly 1 1/2 years ago...Shark Fishing and BerleyingThe meeting was advised that this item was referred to the Fisheries Council by the Minister who had requested advice on the issue of fishing for sharks and berle
  16. Sigh.Must be a very slow news week indeed...Gregorian Easter is invariably late March through to mid April.I mean, like, seriously Mr Meedja...WTF?
  17. Dear lord, a one-third increase over a particular time-frame. Everybody, panic...all those swimmers in the water over the next stinking hot month or so now in jeopardy, you are now one-third more likely not to be aware of a toothy having come within a couple of hundred metres of you adelaide metro...and please ensure you swim between the flags during the upcoming heatwave low-20s days with showers and south-westerlies over Easter, y`all! No chance of a species-specific numbers breakdown by any chance?Slow news week by any chance? :vomit:
  18. Maybe they were too embarrassed to say where they might have actually got the marron from...?http://www.andermel.com.au/marron.htm
  19. PS Give any headlands a reasonably wide berth until you become familiar with the underwater terrain near those points - the one at the Eastern end of Snellings Beach is a trap for young players...
  20. Drive to and launch at Penneshaw- Others on here will hopefully give you an update on Backstairs Passage tuna situation.Drive to and launch at Emu Bay- Launch and head west.- Not familiar with the area Emu Bay - Stokes Bay, but generically KGW and flattie spots in close and snapper further out.Now...Stokes Bay...- Bitumen all the way as of last year if going via Parndana (probably why it was much busier mid-Dec last gone than previous years re more locals coming down).- A really low tide can be a launching/swing problem, could reverse back judiciously, seen it done - but you will be able to re
  21. If it`s the first time on the ferry read the fine print of the travel paperwork - RipoffLink don`t like full jerries or full removable boat tanks (the latter probably not an issue given your avatar??)First time?Staying where?Intending to primarily fish where?Type of boat and car?
  22. To be fair, I can actualy see the ergonomic advantages whilst jigging (less strain on the top of a bent wrist holding a conventional rod - try it)Once hooked up though, it makes very little body mechanics sense...suppose you could get used to it...
  23. Del, the Snapper thing is already of some concern to me. We have marks for our two fishing holiday areas in SA where we genuinely know (from experience over a period of years) that we are more likely to catch Nannies than Snapper - however, potentially having to justify your position in explaining that to a fisheries boat that happens to come alongside just as you are hooked up to a snap during the closure could be...an interesting exercise.
