AFThe Hark link is topical for me - a mate bought one of these earlier this year and we christened it on a trip in Aprilhttp://www.hark.com.au/index.php?route=product/product&path=24&product_id=80Not cheap at $400-ish, but does the business to be sure.(BTW we found out the hard way with the second lot - go very conservative on the saltiness of the brine mix, recipe or no recipe!) But moving slightly off-subject, this one caught my eyehttp://www.hark.com.au/index.php?route=product/product&path=24&product_id=88Looks a lot like what is marketed by ALDI in Vic as the "Coolabah mini-spit rotisserie grill", I scored one on sale for $50 (retail $70) during a visit a few months ago.- Passed a post-cooking redgum torture test with flying colours, and the enamel coating is weapons-grade!- Don`t use the legs, a couple of bricks will do- Can be used as rotisserie, grate cooker or open-top shashlick skewer cooker- 2 small netted lamb roasts over (judiciously replenished) charcoal are done in 2 1/2 hours...with the 2 D batts still going strong (I am a rusted-on Duracell fan though - pay the bucks and don`t buy anything else)- Basically a "poor man`s" spit roast, if you don`t need to feed more than 6-8 people of course...- And the beauty is you don`t need a 240V socket nearby

Options are being looked at by all parties it seems, note the third parahttp://www.exxonmobil.com.au/Australia-English/PA/about_what_rs_adelaiderefinery_demolition.aspxBut this will likely be a very long process!https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Stanvac,_South_Australiauhf - the jetty snapper account you gave is exactly why I suspect, if the jetty is to be retained and recfishing permitted, a "Noarlunga jetty" approach would be an absolute requirement.

Voted Yes, an "on balance" decision, but bearing in mind the rather important caveat as indicated by RJ.
I have previously stated in this forum on another thread that I have reservations about opening it up to fishing (most certainly adjacent boat fishing!) but on further reflection there is the possibility of a win-win middle ground, without compromising the overall integrity of what effectively has been a de-facto aquatic reserve for donkeys years.ale (and others)Exactly my initial thoughts, hence the personal reservations.I myself would be more likely to go for a walk along the thing without rod than with - but if managed judiciously with respect to fishing activity, would it not take some pressure off the other metro jetties for a start?BTW I am very impressed that a number of strident voices regularly railing here against the "lock out" and generic anti-fishing mentality have indicated they are opposed to the concept of recfishing off this particular jetty.Perhaps shows that responsible custodianship of a renewable resource ought to be devolved to the people who actually utilise the resource?Dreamin`...

Now you're missing my sarcasm Kon Totally agree, and so you can clearly understand my position / opinion on this issue, I'd be more than happy to see the jetty stay. However, as a tax payer I don't want to be paying for it cause I reckon there's more important areas that need focus and funding before another jetty.

Keep in mind that Mobil are required to restore the site, jetty dismantling and removal would have to be in the seven figure sum area. I have read figures of between 7 and 10 mil being mentioned. In lieu of going through the dismantling process, the money is paid to the gummint, thus "seeding" costs spoken for?Bricks suggested a "user pays" scenario, for argument`s sake call it a few bucks per head. Just one possible initial outcome - toilets (and possibly a kiosk ultimately) halfway along, jetty (initially at least) open daylight hours only (night-time bogan vandal factor spoken for), if there is an "in only" gate the "out only" gate has a fisheries officer in attendance during hours of opening inspecting all outbound containers (fish pillager factor spoken for).Self funding on a user-pays cost-recovery basis. Many ways to skin a cat.Talking years rather than months, I believe that area ultimately is slated for a complete "clean sweep" redevelopment, thus the jetty could certainly be a drawcard bonus.
Apart from the self-funding financials mentioned above, "We" don`t seem to have problems finding mega millions for a footbridge to save a slightly bigger "minority" a 300-400 metre walk...and if anyone replies that is part of the overall city redevelopment package looking to the future (Convention Centre, Oval, etc) then exactly the same principle is applicable to the Stanvac area.Different scale, same concept.I reiterate - not a high personal priority for me, but at the very least all options should be considered while they are available as possible options.General recreational/tourist facility, potential scuba platform - jetty recfishing a bonus of course!

Shark experts Mr Barry Bruce (CSIRO) and Mr Paul Rogers (SARDI) were invited to the meeting to provide a briefing on the effect of sharks and berleying to members. Mr Peter Dietman, Director Fisheries and Aquaculture Operations also attended the meeting to provide advice on enforcement and compliance issues. It was noted that:- The expert advice suggests that the cryptic behaviour of sharks is unpredictable. Sharks are very often present in an area but are not seen by people.- It is difficult to prevent the use of all types of berley and any attempt to regulate specific bait or berley types is problematic.- The level of berleying from recreational fishing activities is unlikely to cause any significant changes in shark behaviour.- Other fishing activities such as berleying associated with Garfish fishing and baiting of net/pots for Blue Swimmer Crabs also involves the use of fish products in inshore areas.- Further restrictions on shark berleying is unlikely to reduce the future risk of shark incidents along the South Australian metropolitan beaches.- The dimension of the issue at this stage is not of a large scale and is raised by media and others every year during the warmer months.- Education and awareness programs are in place and community behaviour appears to have been modified resulting in a decrease in illegal berleying activity in recent years.- The existing legislative provisions are satisfactory in preventing people in engaging in unreasonable or inappropriate behaviour in shark fishing / berleying activities. It`s an interesting thread;http://www.strikehook.com/forum/98-recfish-sa-formerly-sarfac/189772-shark-fishing?limit=15&start=30#191907A lot of lobbying, politics, media grabs and self-righteous social activism was involved....
