With regard to policy etc. The SAFLP is basically a single platform party although we would advocate for all lifestyle groups including Shooting, 4WD groups etc.We don't need to bother people with a massive portfolio of policies as we don't anticipate Governing in our own right. We would be there to lobby the Govt. of the day and influence their policies with regard to the interests of our voters.

I am amazed at the pathetic, suspicious attitude of some people on this site. A few points you might want to consider.I was the candidate for the SAFLP at the last election. You reckon I did it for power, glory and self interest. Bullshit, I knew there was very little chance of getting in but gave it a go anyway. If anyone here wants to run for parliament for the SAFLP at the next election, join the Party and put your name forward. We are a properly constituted Party.I also stood for the previous State election for rec fishers and for the Senate in the 2007 Federal Election for the Australian Fishing & Lifestyle Party. This was long before many of you even knew about Marine Parks/Sanctuary Zones. The Shooters party were given my preferences at the previous 2 State elections and probably will get them again at the next state election. It is a pity they have never reciprocated because if we preferenced each other then one of us might get in and be able to advocate for the other. Also,I don't have an ego to polish or need a career (I'm 62) I do it to send a signal to both major Parties and the lifestyle destroying Greens that Fishers have had enough of this Marine Parks "FRAUD".Fishers must realise that Politicians will never take any notice of you unless you threaten their existence. ie You have to play their game. VOTES.As far as the Shooters Party goes, they really do not completely represent Fishers and many fishers really don't want a close association with hunting/shooting. But having two Parties that can advocate for one another is a great idea. With regard to our mission statement and policies, check out the website www.saflp.com it's all there and like us on Facebook and we might be able to spread the word actually achieve something.Let's cut the negativity and all pull together in the same direction.

I have checked your website and it contains NO policy at ALL. It is a mission statement. It states WHAT you want to do not HOW you intend to do it. You could probably include the website address in your sig line to help direct people to it.I do not doubt your sincerity or effort and I have subsequently downgraded my opinion of you on this issue from arrogant to naive. If your party is serious you should expand your mission statement. Here is an exampleTo promote the sustainable use of the environment for the recreational and fishing pursuits of the public We will do this by:Establishing a statutory body to soley focus on developing policy' date=' laws and regulations for recreational fishers. This body will be solely funded by the introduction of a Recreational Fishing Licence and the sale of SAFLP T-Shirts.Introduce compulsory education on size and bag limits in SA primary schools.Establish a Mulloway, Kingfish and Bluefin Tuna restocking programme. Fish stocking locations will be known only to Knackers and will be released to individuals (mates) on his authority.Re-introduce the death penalty for individuals in possession of iFish branded fishing tackle.Imposing worlds best practice on waste and storm water remediation.Rehabilitate Gulf St Vincent Sea Grasses.Stop any Victorians with fishing tackle in their possession crossing the state border. A processing center will be set up in Naura to re-educate offenders.[/color']So if you let me know what you want to do, how you will do it and more importantly how you will fund it then I might consider your party seriously. And who is standing for you? Is there a biography? Skills etc etc.

    Hi Tonyb
I agree that if you look at the OP's original question clinically and take it for exactly the question that it asks, then yes, the only responses in this thread should be yes or no.However, expecting people to answer "specifically" to "do we want the use of the jetty or not", without any other considerations or discussion is surely loaded? I mean this is a fishing forum so really how many people would say no? To have any relevance to people's responses and for this poll don't we have to gauge at what cost and how badly people want to have the jetty stay open? I can't see how you could gauge this by simply expecting people to give a yes or no answer.

That is my major concern - how much will this cost the tax payer. Let's be honest, there are much more important things as a state we need to be spending money on when you look at what is looming in the future...... healthcare, infrastructure, public housing etc. When you consider there are government cut backs taking place everywhere on projects that were already considered necessary and important, where does the buying of a dilapidated jetty and it's remediation, then it's ongoing maintenance so people can fish from it, fit into the order of priority when considering everything else that our tax dollars need to be spent on?I know you have suggested it could be self funding, but how much do you reckon it would cost to remove all the old fixtures and pipework and dispose of them properly (remembering they will be contaminated with chemicals), replace an extensive amount of the structure below and above the waterline that has corroded away, then make the jetty safe so it complies to all current OHS requirements, then ensure the rest of the infrastucture (like roads, toilet facilities, carparks, lighting and god knows what else) are adequate before it's opened to the public? $10-$12M you think? Who really knows, but at a guess I'd say $10M wouldn't get near what is actually required.... which means the tax payer will ultimately have to fund what's left to make it happen. No, no-one has to pay to go on a metro jetty in SA. But I'm sure the cost to maintain the jettys are worn by those that live within that council. So are the residents of the Onkaparinga council happy to see their rates increase to cover the ongoing maintenance of the jetty? Perhaps rate payers would prefer to see some other Onkaparinga council projects slated to make room for this jetty project and it's ongoing maintenance?I guess it all comes down to what "we" can afford, and whether it's considered necessary or just a "nice" thing to have......

G'day All (and not just Rec Fishers like me)As Mobil complete the remediation of the land, a Master Plan for future development of the land and its infrastructure will have to be developed. For such a large piece of land, this will include commercial and community spaces, and the land is large enough to be planned as a destination for the whole of SA.Now, if Mobil are required to demolish the jetty as part of exiting their lease, HOW MUCH WOULD THAT COST THEM?..... $10million? Why demolish a significant piece of infrastructure that was upgraded 15 years ago and, with some modifications, could be made suitable for public use!? So, Mobil pays the Goevrnment $10m to leave it there, the Government spends $1m - $2m to make it suitable for public use and puts the rest into trust for future upgrade and manitenance....... completely self funding!Link it to a major public destination on adjacent land and kids can learn to fish, divers can swim at the end, people can walk in the fresh air with their kids and their old and frail...... C'mon Lads, this is a "no brainer". Vote yes wherever you get the opportunity.j a n z

Just Me reacted to Knackers in Alan Hawk Review of the Stella 2013
I love reading Alan Hawk's reviews. To be honest I don't understand pretty much what he is saying in engineering terms. One thing that stands out to me is the cost of making these reels strong enough to handle the drag and crank pressures put on them and then sealing all the points where water access. When I consider the problem of turning rotation of the handle in one plane into the movement of the rotor in another plane with some oscillation I can't help but think of helicopters. And we all know they shouldn't fly. If only I could cast poppers with a big lever drag overhead then I wouldn't need these machines designed by Satan himself.

On a brighter note, it's pleasing to note my budget-price Fin-Nor Offshore has been removed from his "not recommended" list...

Should work well, seen plenty of Squid following KGs to the surface with evil intent. many moons ago, before the days of digital cameras the Mother in Law asked me to help her with a fish she couldn't control. turned out to be a 38cm KG with an enormous squid wrapped around it, judicious use of the landing net saw us with 2 meals for the price of one.
