  1. I bought some from a servo not long ago that weren't goolwa cockles. Not sure where they were from but they had a filthy stink to them. They weren't off either, they just smelt really wrong when you opened the shell. The shells were fluted and not smooth like a goolwa pipi.
  2. Get a hook, rubber band and some foil. I put money down that you catch one.
  3. The ones with the black spots on them? They work so well that they're almost unfair.
  4. Definitely and without a doubt my favourite lure for the past year or so has been the Daiwa Double Clutch. These are absolute Salmon killers and also work very well on the Snook. The colours I go for are the Phantom and the Blue Smelt.
  5. Potentially very exciting. Guess we'll have to wait and see how serious these guys are. Thanks UHF.
  6. Can someone help me here because I am a little confused. Is Mawson Lakes salt-water or freshwater? People are talking about it like it's full of Bream AND Carp which kind of made me boggle a bit because I thought there's no way Carp can survive in salt-water and Bream in fresh.
  7. reckon my late dad could beat it.. his filliting knife was razor sharp... filleting whiting, flies everywhere.. one lands on his hand.. instinct was to hit it.. so he did.. with the knife... cut the fly in half and kept going until it reached the bone of his thumb.. hospital trip and much stitches..Jeez ow! That's not nice, but at least I am not the only one! At any rate it taught me to respect my knives and that as cool as they are they're not toys.
  8. I thought this was a rather good presentation.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhhZt7d58Hk
  9. Yeah that's what everyone says. On the subject of sports I also nearly shot a teacher in Archery at school, so I've given that up too. :pinch:
  10. Cleaning a Snapper I copped the big spike straight through the fleshy part on the top of my index finger.Copped my share of spikes under the nails and hooks in the fingers, but the worst and most embarrassing happened because of a bad habit I used to have. I used to always be stabbing my bait knife into anything near me when not using it. The wood on the jetty, the top of my bucket, bait bag, whatever. One day when I was sitting on the wharf, I got a massive hit and stabbed my bait knife down as I grabbed my rod, unfortunately I stabbed it straight down into the side of my leg, putting it in a
  11. Basically what will happen is the tackle shops will get a phone call from John Huie once a week and we give him a bit of a report on what's happening (edit: Nanman is right though, mostly it's the same stuff every week ). He calls all the local metro stores as far as I am aware. We also get a call from Greg Irving (S.A. Angler) once a week for the same thing. As to who John Huie actually is; I've met him a number of times and while I don't know much about his professional history I do know he's a really nice bloke who's always happy for a chat about fishing, which is good enough for me. :pHe k
  12. Thanks all. I reckon the toothbrush might be the go for now.
  13. Question:How do you clean your reels after a session?Normally I will wipe down the rod, reel and eyes with a clean wet cloth but I am finding that it is very hard to get into the fiddly areas and I am still getting little patches of green corrosion, especially with my Baitcaster. Is it okay to just spray your gear with a hose as I see some people doing? I was always under the impression that it was bad for a reel to do it this way.
  14. 1)Uni2)Albright3)Rapala Loop4)Locked Half-Blood5)SnellThere are a lot of different ways to Snell hooks. Below is the method I use.
  15. Got to say I've always been a fan of S.A Angler. I have been reading Shane's magazine for a long time and also as our shops are customers we have regular dealings with him. He's a top bloke and always happy to stop for a chat about whatever. That being said, Wildcoast is also a great mag. I love the brag board. I went to Tafe with Shane Murton back before Wildcoast existed and all we used to do was talk about fishing then as well so it's not really a surprise that he moved on to this.
  16. Whoa, love it Savagelip! I remember watching a few good storms like that sitting up at Winters Hill lookout.Any chance you have this pic in high res and could I get a copy for my desktop wallpaper?
  17. Sitting in the shop and selling you blokes bait! :pinch: Hopefully me and the missus will get to take that trip down to Yorkes after Easter finishes perhaps next week.
  18. Gulp! are a great bait but I find that what you need to do is take them out of their packet straight away and put them in a little airtight screw-top jar. This way they stay fresh. The zip-locks on the packets they come in are horrible. As soon as you finish using them, pop them back in the jar and they will stay good for ages.Powerbaits and Squidies generally don't have this problem.
  19. Daiwa Windcast Z5500Cheaper, solid, huge line capacity. More than a match for big Mullys or beach Reds.I reckon the Saltiga and Stella are both overkill for surf fishing and if you happen to drop one in the sand by accident you're out of pocket quite a bit.
  20. Hah and I thought I was the only one who liked Daiichi hooks!Daiichi's for small hooks. Just can't get better or sharper I reckon. Been using them for Gar since I was about 6 or 7. :pGama's for big hooks, especially the occys and circles. Strong, good quality, unbeatable.Mustad's if I can't get gama's. I don't mind the Demons and the Big Red's.
  21. There's an older gent that fishes the inner breakwall at North Haven using a pole. I was chatting to him one day, watching him drop his float just out off the rocks and pull in mullet after mullet. Loved it might even get one myself!
  22. The red one. It'll make you're lure go faster!
  23. Judging by the specs you've put up there you should be able to fit most of the 150yds of Sufix without need for any backing.• POWER PRO LINE CAPACITYlb.(YRDS.) 10(170) * 15(145) * 30(95) Sounds like you'll probably get about 130yds of 20lb just as a rough guesstimate (Wow, apparently guesstimate is an actual word according to the spell check).
