Ale, have you ever tried feeding out your line on a decent weight sinker as you slowly cruise to a fishing spot and wind it in under tension? Works a treat for me on the odd occasion the line just doesn't feel right in the spool. JMO, and it only work if you have a boat I guess...

If you aren't catching snapper on your usual ground its time to branch out, they are there, its a matter of using your sounder and plonking yourself on top of some fish, especially off west beach. I fish out there regularly and never seem to fish the same spot twice, just cruise around sounding into the current and if you seen something stop on top of it and get some berley down. Dunno if thats what you do already, I don't mean to sound patronizing.

got to agree about the shakespeare reels, I have one also, I've had it for about 5 years and recently put it on a little 6' catana, its my slimy mack and gar outfit, soooo smooth, and only cost like $45. Dunno how they go drag wise for softies on nastier fish, you want to be able to put the hurt on bigger fish. Thats why I like my pflueger, 5kgs of drag and its about a 2000 size reel.

Hey mate, I just did the floor on my tabs with new marine carpet and a whole new floor. I removed both seats to maximise deck room so I can sleep 3 on the deck for over night trips, and its the best thing I've done. I've never had an issue keeping carpet clean, just use a bio degradeable detergent and give it a good scrub with a pressure wash every now and again. The pros definitely out way the cons in my opinion, there's nothing like the feeling of carpet under foot when your fishing. Hi everyone,I'm after some advice, I've got a daiwa C1012 bay jigging on the way from Japan and I'm looking for a rod to match it with. I've been to rayannes, Bcf and tackle world, but I'm struggling. I want something with a longer split butt, suitable for light jigging, not a barra stick or typical bait caster rod. Does anone know a tackle store in adelaide that has a big range of Wilson rods? They seem to have some nice light jigging rods in the 6'6 to 7' size, if anyone has seen anything with a decent casting action and a longer butt in the 5-9kg range some advice would be much appreciated

I'm a big fan of Binks marine, I had a faulty anchor switch, went in and made enquiries. Although he couldn't help me he took the time to identify and find the switch on line from the manufacturer, and sent me on my merry way, I had the switch in my hand 2 day later delivered to my house.Another time I go in after my dad attempted to destroy my trailer lights and wiring, instead of selling me what he had on the shelf, he advises me to shop around and get a heavier duty assembly for my trailer.Not the regular, "i'll get it in (and double the price)" sales pitch, just honest, helpful advice both

Just got back from off west beach, great conditions and ruggers everywhere! a few minutes of sounding the 15 meter mark. Boated plenty, only kept 2 in the low forties. Unfortunately dropped a decent rugger on a lumo plastic, shame the rains a comin.

I have a transom mounted burley bucket on my Tabs- Plastic with a stainless masher, its great for mashing up slimy frames, Pilchards, and dispersing pellets soaked in oil. I usually run it in conjunction with a burley bucket supended off the bottom. I had a ~10 kg snapper come up and sniff it at the illusion under light when I was packing up, it works a treat. Until I have a grey suit chew it in half, I'm going to keep using it. I'd get plastic if you are going to get one, not as noisy while you are mashing and not as many tears if there is an accicdent. Oh and make up a hoe-like plastic thing

I agree with scaleytom, I recently bought a new 4000d and its a beautiful little reel. First trip we were out metro and after a slow night... Zing! off goes the runner with a single circle hook, snap the handle and set circle in the rod holder- the only keeper between the 3 of us. A week later at the illusion, I'm flicking plastics and zing goes the bait runner- wander over, snap the handle, a nice 2.5 kg rugger. They are a great reel if used right, and they are super smooth!
