No mate, not as effective as 8. I'm surprised the "Comp" organisers didn't pick you up on it. I normally just enter comps with my recreational long line and a 50 metre net. How did you hear about the comp?

half a tommy.. depending on size of the Tommy. i prefer 4/0s as a good all rounder.. 6/0 circles are pretty good too.. will also depend on the fish.. with pannies.. a 2x 2/0 snelled rig is pretty effective..

Okay then. Here's what you do.Catch all your tommies. Then take them to the very end of outer harbor rocks and cast as far out into the channel as you can (with your Tommie for bait). If you have more time, drive to wallaroo jetty, walk as far to the end as you are allowed (cast your Tommie).Night time rough weather will be best, but daytime calm weather will do.If you get snapped off, go buy heavier line ;)Case closed, best of luck mate, and remember our reports page to post your snapper pics Cheers

What smokey means to say is, unweighted when the tide is slack, you can't fish unweighted when the current is ripping. So at high or low , unweighted, in between use the weight you need to hold the bait out there. If you use circles you need to keep the reel in gear so make sure it's wedged safely in a Rock or you might lose it.

"box of snapper gear" would consist of assortment fo swivels and hooks and sinkers.. depending on your rod/rigs change a bit in size. you can buy some basics such as 4/0, 6/0 hooks, large swivels and some 3-4oz sinkers depending on your casting weight of line/rod.and yes outter harbour has snapper off the rocks.. as does a few of the jettys in the right conditions..

Locations like the Bluff, Granite Island causeway, Inman River, Hindmarsh River are available in Victor to fish. Tommies found at the bluff and GI if you berley up, squid are at the bluff on clear days, bream are in both the rivers too.

never seen squid caught at semi..not saying you cant but never seen or heard. You'd be better of going to brighton imo. my favourite jigs are Shimano Sephi's in pink or green, and yo-zuri auri q glows in pink/purple and orange. Both will work in all conditions.

unless you throwing weighted cut pillies out (GOOD LUCK WITH THAT) burly wont help to much off the rocks as current runs fast in the channel but you will catch fish there if you keen, and pick ya tides as sam said... BTW whats wrong with Tommies i love catching them for bigger bigger fish

Hi Hallows. We were out there this morning. Son(11yrs) got his first snook(58cm), and some salmon trout. Snook on a flick bait soft plastic, and the ST on pilchard pieces.I normally fish half pilchards unweighted or with a small ball sinker. And flick soft plastics.Try to fish either side of the tide changes. Be careful cos the end rocks go under water on tides over 2m. Plenty of seaweed to contend with, but well worth it when you catch some crackers like we did last year.

throw a big bait out off the outer harbor rocks in the channel. could get a snapper, sting ray, shark. use fresh squid or tommies but always take a bag of pillies just incase. around a 7kg rod and reel set up will pull in most fish. use a light rod for gar, tommies salmon trout etc. use burley. good luck.
