  1. Would all have to relate to blue swimmer crabs. Is there more blue swimmer crabs swimming into the port, if so then thats what theyd be following. Youve got to analyse what food sources they are likely to be devouring.I know in the channel salmon trout are key and live are best.Maybe they are following the ST's up the system? All spawning should be over so its got to be food now that is keeping them or getting there in the first place.
  2. Its pretty simple really - We flogged up north, sounded every structure known to man and me and Bigred only saw very few fish around the pens and north of Lowly but did see a couple of fish in the rip but couldnt get them to bite after pulling out all the tricks.Although I had all the REALLY good drops on my marks list including the drop in which the winning fish came from we couldnt get 18km plus south to sit on them.Your advice though ST was exactly the type of advice we were after, and had there been more than the two sole grazing big fish we sounded on the edge of the 3 existing pens then
  3. Probably the most MASSIVE news you could read on this site. I do think that this is the ultimate sign of anglers saying that they have had enough and are that we are prepared to band together to see our sport/lifestyle recognised and grow in the future. This is great that they also recognise the work that ANSA has done in the past as well and that they believe ANSA's work will continue to be equally important after the implementation of this body.
  4. Pretty sure it was 15.26 kilo by some guy named J Stone - caught on day 2
  5. Is this the one you want? Ooops no I wouldnt have a clue who stocks em!.
  6. Hi FreShie-Fisher Its just the look of the Mag Seal I dont really like.I just think the old ones look bullet proof (almost Billet) where the new ones although okay look like they are trying to be fancy!Just a personal taste thing Theres no technicall issues with the mag seal that Im aware ofCheers.
  7. This is a great topic, because on a couple of occasions I have left a jerk shad 7" on my jig heads in the sun when boat fishing and a day or two later found myself having to cut it off with a knife on the kitchen sink or chopping board. And this is not easy as it sets like glue. Its almost impossible to recover the jig head at times..lol.If only Jigheads werent so expensive it wouldnt matter, but at this stage we either need to take the plastic off the head before we let it "bake" on there or pay the price of having to remove the plastic with pliers and a knife later..lol.I just put any used p
  8. Yes Id be buying the old model as its already tried and tested, looks more rugged and like most things the original often ends up being the best.At $419 for the older 5000 model, how can you go wrong.Im not a huge fan of the mag seal either.
  9. Beautifull Reddy there Jimbo! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
  10. Hey Banga,My Beach/Rock outfit for Snapper is a 9 Foot Gary Howard Viper 1 peice 10-15kg stick with Daiwa 4500J Freams with 30lb braid but 20lb would suffice as main line, but 30lb gives you a bit more assurance when pinging 3-4oz leads as far as you can throw them. You need a slightly longer rod to provide you with leverage and to get your line up above the waves of the beach, but a 12-14ft surfrod would be overkill but certainly could be used. I find with my Viper I can wade into the water at the beach and fish with it comfortably for alteast two hours as its not very heavy at all. The bea
  11. I guess the maximum number of times I would use my Gamma traces is 2 - 3 times max, and then they get replaced. But Generally Im not fussed if I throw them out after the first use, as I like having new hooks/traces when chasing good sized REDS! I have found that I dont loose to many fish either.ThIS way I have peice of mind that they are going to stay burried once hooked up.I often am too lazy to cut the line off the hooks at times, and often just give my traces to anyone that im fishing with that wants them :cheer: :cheer: .When snapper fishing I like to have multiple traces tied up and snap
  12. Nice stuff mate, ive always wondered if Illusions held fish late in the season thats great to hear that it does!Cheers for the report.
  13. MMM Tierra, what I would do is soak it in a bucket of Salt Away over night. Then take it out and spin it dry!. Then dunk in Salt Away and spin dry again. Repeat this procedure until you get sick of it.My theory is surely the saltaway will get to where ever the saltwater had got and by spinning it dry a number of times should get all the salt out of it.Its just a theory though but doesnt cost $40.
  14. Hey Funky I wouldnt go to other brands other than Daiwa and Shimano as you will drop and sacrifice a lot in quality.I would look at maybe a Daiwa Caldia 2506S (shallow spool) - I think they are a slight bit more than your budget, but these are sexy and well engineered and they wont dissapoint.I have loved mine from the moment i spooled it up. R&A's have them for like $189 (Bargain and a half)
  15. ALERT SUPPORT SENATOR BOSWELL’S MOTION As many of you will be aware the Marine Bio-Regional Planning Process is in complete disarray with secret meetings, back room deals, confidential maps, appalling process and science that simply does not exist. We have been pushing for nearly 2 years to have the MBPP opened up and made more transparent and science driven, by sending it to a House of Representatives or Senate Committee. NOW WE HAVE OUR CHANCE.We have NEVER disagreed with the structural foundation of the MBPP as implemented. BUT we do have serious concerns with how the Rudd and
  16. Thats shocking news indeed.Insert sad face here if that goes ahead. The one small mulloway (over legal here) that I chose to eat tasted terrible.I cant see the point in what they are proposing.Hopefully this is the sort of Issue that needs recreational anglers from all states to unite against.I would hope that SARFAC could voice SA recreational anglers disgust on this issue.Brett
  17. Im gonna smash some Eggs, some KFC and some Big Whyalla Reds. Not necessarily in that order
  18. Thats spot on about the sun damage as a lot of yanks like to keep there boats moored or outside. I have seen some older boats with clearly visible damaged seats etc when browsing Boats.com. It is definately worth making sure the boat you intend to import would be in tip top condition. The range of great boats (ie walkarounds or even centre consoles) is unbeleivable.heres some of the brands Ive been checking out.Bayliner TrophySea HuntSailfishSeaSwirlWellcraftPro-LineShamrock WA (walk around)and there seems to be a few more worth checking out likeBaha WalkaroundsHrydra Sports
  19. He went the route of organising everything himself' date=' as going through a company that handles the whole lot costs more, would have cost about $12k. the downside is this takes longer and is more stressful. The shipping company he used in LA was Montana Exports, they just handle all the shipping on that side.also needed a purchasing agent to go inspect boats, eventually buy it and deliver it to the shipping company. The proprietor of Montana Exports recommended an agent.then you need a freight company on this side to take delivery of the container and unload it etc. there is a local guy here
  20. TEAM SART - WHYALLA SNAPPER COMP.JUST TRYING TO LAND A RESPECTABLE WHYALLA FISH ON MY FIRST TIME FISHING THERE WILL MAKE MY LONG W/END
  21. Isnt that truley amazing, and they even give you a chance to see some of the fish they have double tagged. This type of research has crossed my mind, and at some stage in the not too distant future (ie within the next few years) I hope to approach PIRSA/SARDI to see if they would be interested in Accoustic tagging Snapper in St Vincents Gulf, with a view to maybe doing Spencer Gulf at a later date.Of course this would require funding - so in order to get either gulf monitored could be fighting an uphill battle. I am slightly concerned though that if the results from such monitoring got into
  22. Gotto agree with Nanman, if you can learn to tie a Loop Knot this will ensure any lure you tie on will have the best possible action. Im just a tad lazy at times. LOL :woohoo:I guess with this lure I was lucky as it swam fine ,but sooner or later your going to get a lure that really needs a loop knot for it to swim correctly. :woohoo: :woohoo:
  23. My waxwing swims fine (with a flurocarbon leader) tied directly to the lure, it will work fine with all of the normal knots tied directly to the lure eye.
