1. Top notch report Alex!I really like the idea of youtube links.I would rather watch you catching fish than put up with the red cordial rush of IFish.Out of interest mate' date=' what's your next target species??[/quote']Thank you so much Tinker! Hmmm... I've caught bream before but never a bream on a lure!!! I reckon my next target is a bream on a lure. I'm gonna give it a shot at west lakes maybe this weekend! ;)
2. nice 1 alex' date=' cfr & I hooked up last week doing a spot of trawling around the blocksplenty out there B)

@Savagelip: Hmmm... I reckon I saw you out there Savagelip! Well done. What was the size of the biggest?@Like a Sturgeon: I reckon I could! Easy as pie. Just need a little help getting it in... :silly: @trihull: Cheers heaps, I sure will keep up the reports. I might even make a youtube video for this? ;)
3. As you all know, my new target was snook... First day targeting them, I caught 2!!! We went at sunset and caught 2 squid straight away. After those 2 squid, the bite had gone down. But I started getting a few hits on the little sp so I persisted. I saw some snook rising from the deep and them BANG! I saw a snook hit the lure! I landed it just as it spat the lure on the jetty. Pew... that was lucky  P1070322.JPGMY FIRST EVER SNOOK!!! :headbang: Later on after the sun had set, I had one massive hit on the sp lure and this was a BIG FISH! It didn't take up much of a fight considering I had locked drag. I managed to land it on the jetty. I was so excited! I measured it and it was 64cm on the dot! P1070338.JPGP1070339.JPGWOW! I WAS SHOCKED... :woohoo: First day targeting my new species and sucess! This big snook had a scar on it's tail which I think might be from another snook or a shark? :blink:P1070347.JPGWe ended the day with a nice feed. P1070343.JPG :clap::clap::clap::clap:

4. Hi everyone tom2063 here' date=' first time in several months, just wanting to know where abouts in West Lakes these pontoons are and how do you access them.[/quote']Hey Tom2063, the pontoons in west lakes are not accessible unless you have a kayak but this pontoon if the only one you can access which is at oarsman reserve.
5. Hit west lakes last weekend with a couple of mates. Straight away we got nice bites on first cast. After a few more casts we hooked one but this didn't feel like a normal fish from the lake. It had heaps of head shakes! We got it up and it was surprisingly a small KGW! When we got it up the other rod went off and it was another KGW! these lil guys were only around 27cm. Then a few more casts, another hookup! This time it was a mullet! Awesome livebait but we kept it for dinner because we didn't have the gear for a mully. Got heaps of bites then another hookup! For the next 20 minutes we got hookups after another. Mostly mullet and sometime small bream. Later on, the bite stopped... Not a single bite for another 2hrs. We left the rods sitting there and finally we got some more bites! Hooked up and it was another little KGW. Then another. That was it for the day, caught a nice feed of mullet ranging from 23-28cm. 6. I went out to Tennyson this afternoon after chasing bream in West Lakes. Tried my first attempt at poppering for yfw. I used the Zerek Popparazzi first and then the bassday sugapen second. Had no hits in 90 minutes but didn't really have a clear idea of what technique to use. Mixed up the speeds a fair bit but didn't see any schools when I waded.

We too went to tennyson after a flick at west lakes with no luck. The water was surprisingly calm and clear but couldn't see any fish. After about 30mins we had our first hits on the Berkley scum dog which we thought was a yfw! Had a couple more follows but then we saw a shape that looked like a st. But we couldn't really tell and afterwards, they disapeared. :(
7. I'm sold guys! I hit Tennyson this morning at bottom of tide at 1030 ' date=' there were two massive schools of them cruising up and down the sand bars. I used the bassday orange and first cast they swarmed all around it and followed the lure all the way in! Second cast went straight overs the top and out the back of the school , jigging it through the school they went into a frenzy and smashed it ! This was the most fun ive had YFW fishing in years ! I also had a rod holder I've made sitting in the sand bar with another rod baited and sitting in the water , thanks to des's post( finessing) I followed the rig he posted.......THANKS DES! This rig worked a treat.. I've never been so busy fishing , if the baited rod wasn't bending the lure was being smashed... I was like a little child in a candy shop. I was amazed to actually see em jumping out of the water in the school .my first metro bag was had in 1 1/2 hours. I must say using my spotters was definitely helpful in first spotting them on arrival at the beach. I stayed on after my bag was reached trialling the clear bassday lure to less of an affect as yhe orange but still managed to land em. After two hours of fishing it was like school of fish went to lunch and disappeared never to return again the rest of the Arvo . Any how it's fair to say YFW on lures..............BLOODY OATH!!! Now to somehow wipe the smile off of my face. This little camper will definitely be back tommorrow .... After he puts in a split system for his mate..... Boooooooo :clap::clap:[/quote']That's great news king prawn! Hope to see you there today smashing some yfw on poppers! :headbang::headbang::headbang:
8. Sure will guys! Might head of to tennyson since there has been many reports of yfw! :silly: I will try make another video. I probably won't wear the t-shirt just yet because I might not even have it yet! I would like to thank Bjorn for holding the competition and for my winning! Tight lines everyone!Cheers Alex. :fishing:

9. and just a quick question' date=' can you kayak fish in the river?[/quote']What ale said. I wouldn't eat the bream either. But the river is only about 15meters wide so there's probably no use using a yak, yet it still holds some decent bream! Give it a go! ;)
10. One thing that has always surprised many is that there are heaps of baby ones' date='the conditions are seemingly perfect,ie weed beds, sand patches, shallow sandy straights dropping off into deep water. All that and throw in abundant baitfish, plus the flounder seem to do well, but its rare to ever hear of one getting caught, that one Alex caught is probably the first I"ve ever seen or heard of to be honest.Nice work . B)[/quote']Hey Cal, it's also the first one I've heard of caught in the lake but there has been heaps caught at trimmer parade lately. Every time I went there for the last month, I've seen at least one caught. They will usually take a small squid on a patanoster rig. ;)
