Live baiting... yes or no?

Gday.This post is merely intended as a quick scout around to ascertain the proportion of people that use live baits when targeting fish.Me personally: I don't.I'd be very interested to hear from others.Cheers.

There is no substitute for a live bait when targetting mulloway, i'm a big fan of using a livie whenever possible. Live clickers are awesome for YFW too.

yeah whenever i catch a small baitfish i chuck it on as a livey. ya never know whats around

i too will use a livey given the chance but how ever i always take along the good ol pillies as i find them to be the next best thing or maybe squid as well. :woohoo:

There is no better baits than live baits. Quiet often catching and maintaining livies is too much of a pain in the bum though but they are by far the best baits overall.

If on a snapper drop and the Mackeral rock up in the burley trail, after youve stocked up on bait, put down a live Macky and if there are any thumpers around you are likely to find em.Big Snapps love live Mackeral and tommies.

Stick a YES on the board for me too.There's not much I'm certain of because when it comes to fishing, a lot of stuff works. Different rods, knots, rigs, boats etc etc etc.The one certainty is that live baits are best. Whether it's live clickers or worms for yellow fin, live little crab for Bream, live mullet for mulloway or slimey's and tommies for the Snapper.Any bait that is alive will be best. After all, that's what people spend a fortune on lures for... To imitate a live bait.But I also agree pillies have to be second, and I've got plenty in salted in the freezer right next to the fish I've caught to prove it

thats a yes for me... love the way a livie struggles sending those pulses down the rod when its about to get nailed then WHAM!! can't beat it(actually catching em on a lure kicks arse also) cheers snake

Live baits are frustrating anoying and you generally don't catch as much on them. That said they are far and away the best way of getting the end of your line attached to a quality fish. Write them off to your own detriment I say. Oh and put me in the yes pile for +2

im yes and no.... ppl swear by livies for the mullies at ards... where i have caught more mullies on dead baits like squid pillie etc.... have only caught one mully on a livie... but as for bream YFW and that i love live bait.... ie shrimp clickers etc....

live baits for sure . half the fun of a good sesh is catching the live bait BUT most of the frustration . iv'e spent hours an hours an hours chasing live bait but now i am getting an idea of where to find them it is getting easier . also expect never to catch them and you usually will .

I've never used live baits but it is something I want to do but i have no idea where to start....I once put a couple of hooks through a shitty but nothing eventuated.

I've just started using live baits for mullies, with no luck yet.Might be my rig though - I just use 3 snooded 7/0 circle hooks in a running rig that would have pillies on it when the live bait is not around.What rigs work best for live baits for mullies?

All of my best big kings over 10kgs have been caught on live squid at pt augusta and whyalla. My best two mullies came from the port river, both on live garfish and have caught a few reds on small live shittys. Don't often livebait but seem to for targetting trophy fish.
