  1. I wonder how far out he was when big freddy did the business?
  2. G"day netman ,looks like a uni/grinner knot.
  3. We are light years behind, the latest thing out of japans technology is telescopic rods,in what they call iso fishing.they have evolved rods that weigh sfa,are telescopic and catch kingys, tuna ,snapper ect B)Here master japanese Angler [forget his name] shows shimano remare, telescopic rods ,about as far as it goes imo technology wise.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OEszbgkhG8
  4. I tie loop knots either rapala knot or harrisons loop, takes 20 seconds of my time and at least i know i can trust it , had snaps give way before, well the 3rd one down anyway, imo opinion a loop knot gives lures a better action and isnt as conspicuous. But its probably more just me,always done it that way and stuck in my ways lol.
  5. I wonder whether or not they will bring them out with the handle on the other side,I love the look of those old classics.
  6. Its pretty simple Sabre got it right.
  7. An old pic of a bronzy caught on my 540 from the surf.
  8. Nah the 540 is a tougher heavier blank than a 5120.All this talk about lightness in big surf rods puzzles me a bit,who stands there holding a rod theyve thrown out with 6 ounces of lead and half a salmon fillet on it?in the surf most cases its cast it out set the drag and put it in a rod stand, the only time you actually hold the rod is casting, winding in to rebait or playing a fish.I have the new latest and greatest, sensor surfs ect and give me a 540 anyday. There was an eb 540 set up for an overhead for sale on here somewhere,i pmed the guy about it and never got a reply ??
  9. Nice vid ,errr..local as in SA local?
  10. Yeah mate cant go wrong,if you are after big fish imo they sit on top of the list, cast well too.Although only 10 foot they have a weird feel of a much bigger rod, even in big surf conditions.Hook a ray ,shark,Mully or anything and you can lean as hard as you want and put plenty of hurt on it with 100% confidence.I have a Daiwa sensor,8144,Live fibres ,in fact heaps of surf rods, used and caught fish on all of them, and my yellow 540 sits pride and place.Worth every cent.

Theyll work, although a gimmick, the concept sort of goes against a single wounded baitfish, which is normally the first to get attacked.A gimmick for sure[the concept] but if they have a good action theyll work.Just noticed my original post is doubled up a bit,my editing skills need reviewing lol.

  16. How does power pro hold its colour,is it better than fireline and some others that are bright at the start then the colour washes out pretty quickly afterward.
  17. Be careful with the sienna, feel like a nice little reel but hook a big carp ect that runs hard in shallow water and watch the thing that makes the drag make a clicking sound disintergrate, and its non replacable.Be fine for whiting ect though.
  18. This is the reason people have to be real careful posting on forums, writing articles in mags like sa angler,sa fishing ect, and telling people that work in tackleshops. The unfortunate reality is in doing this all you achieve is giving the small % good guys the good oil on things, but let god knows how many undesirable white bucket mentality the good oil as well, its a no brainer....the majority of fishermen around are white bucket kill anything mentality.I see some numbnut wrote an article about Torrens Gorge trout in one of those mags....thats like telling 20,000 bogan s you dont know from
  19. G"day shimsman, get a length of rope ,a piece of pvc[king prawns idea is the go],a star dropper,a big garden stake, anything to anchor it, and put just enough weight in it[snapper sinker ect] so it still rolls around with the waves .Have it in the edge of the wash, not actually sitting in the water but on the sand so the waves go over the top on there way up then back over it on the way out.,The wave action will disperse your berley soon enough out into the area in front of it bringing the fish to you,the idea is getting them scrounging in close so all you have to do is cast out a short di
  20. Never heard of them mate,I dabble in a bit of distance casting, and its good to be able to get good distance but disagree with "where the fish are' more often than not they are within the first 50 metres of the beach ie where the gutters are.cheers
  21. Nice Vid mate, what camera do you use and how much did it set you back,if you dont mind me asking.cheers
