  1. when i'm on my own I just use a 'green bag' shopping bag pinched in one hand with a big enough opening to put my other hand in and crawl around on my hands and knees digging and stuffing them in the bag. bucket up from the wash to tip them in when the bag gets heavy/full.working in teams works well too, i dig and throw the cockles and sand in front of me while my cockling buddy sorts through them as they get washed back towards me. you might miss a few but its pretty efficient. one person digs, the other picks them up :)

  2. Yeah I was reading this earlier today. If you read things like this page http://www.dpti.sa.gov.au/recboatingfacilities it makes it sound like the levy money is put in some special fund that can't be touched other than for facilities....What do you think has happened with the money? 3. previously it was permanently on-leash by-law, you can read all about it in this council minutes if you so wish, essentially everyone in the community exercises their dogs off leash and thought the 'on-leash' by-law was unreasonable and outdated as they have 'effective control' of their dogs, so supported the off-leash policy to be brought in. (not the other way around ;))https://www.alexandrina.sa.gov.au/webdata/resources/files/Council_Minutes_18th_January_2010.pdflong story short... YES you can have your dog on the beach and within the mentioned times (10am-6pm) you are required to have your dog on-leash but it would appear that not many people follow this rule.

Council has recently introduced its new Timed Dog Off-leash Policy following overwhelming community support.Dogs must now be on a leash between the hours of 10am and 6pm on all beaches, foreshores and reserves within the Alexandrina Council district.Dogs may be off-leash and under “effective control” at all other times within these areas. These restrictions apply seven days a week throughout the year. Dogs must be on a leash at all times when in other public areas.....For more information about dog registrations and fees, plus dog off-leash areas and times, pick up a brochure from the Council offices or view it on Council’s website, www.alexandrina.sa.gov.au, or phone a Compliance Officer on 8555 7000.

call to be 100% sure on the rules.
  5. Guy on the left is definitely the guy on the adelaidenow pic (look at his shorts, plus yellow line on overhead). The adelaidenow pic is on a different angle, looks to be taken on a phone (bit blurry) and my guess from standing height. Like by a passer-by...Picture was put on facebook yesterday. No exif data to confirm date taken etc.No mention of location on the facebook page. This pic was the profile pic of someone who is a member here, he's not responding on facebook, but I've directed him here if he wants to share any info etc.

  6. "Adelaide Land Based Sharkers" or I think it was "SA land based fishing" had a very similar looking shark posted up on their facebook page just days ago (but with a bunch of guys sporting dredlocks posing with the shark, pretty sure at least one is a member here) but it has since been taken down. The picture was a lot darker ;)My guess is same shark, could be wrong (probably am, don't recall a shirtless tattooed guy in the pic).ALBS care to comment further?

  7. you can spear anywhere south of the onkaparinga mouth, except 2nd valley and I think rapid bay? its outlined in the above link anyway.I've gone spearing around the rocky area just south of the mouth at noarlunga, and further down at moana but all I've managed to spear was a squid and some yellowfin whiting :DDid see a mulloway down at moana which was pretty cool.as for being safe... well, you are in the water, with dead fish... it comes with risk.

  8. you wave the fish scrap bag around in the wave wash, when the water receeds you will see the worms heads sticking out because they cause a V shape in the receeding water. you then walk up to the V, place your cockle/squid bait near it, wait for the worm to latch on, then TRY to grab it :)...I've only ever caught one of these tricky bastards.watch the technique at the start of the above video, then watch from about 1:10 onward. he washes the bag around in the receeding water, walks up to the V, uses his bait (the worm actually bites it and latches on), then the magic bit... actually grabs the little begger!oh and they will bite your finger too if you're not careful.

  9. I've had success pumping nippers inside the o'sullies boat ramp around the inside beach where the three steel pillars are, don't know if they are still there. There are other spots on southern beaches but it will take a little looking ;)Search Youtube for "sand shrimp" or "ghost shrimp". try to put back the ones in berry (carrying eggs).Never had much luck pumping worms (end up with half worms) and never seen any on southern beaches anyway... doesn't mean they are not around. There are different types of worms of course and different methods for catching them, I don't think a pump fits into the equation. tube worms you use a garden fork, beach worms you use a stink bait and a lot of practice plucking them out. Look on youtube for "catching beach worms".http://www.strikehook.com/forum/35-bait-tackle/198898-tubewormsThe onk is a no go zone for pumping baits, or any of the beach within the Noarlunga Aquatic Reserve as previously mentioned.Basically, walk the beach, look for holes, pump and see what you find :)
