a 2500 reel is pretty big. get a 1000 size imo. makes catching small fish feel big on sp. st, bream, schoolies etc feel so much better you'll enjoy the fight much more. there also more lighter so you can cast for longer and they will still hold 150m of 4-6lb braid.aernos sp 1000aernos 1000 with the eva handleshimano reels are best value for money and i haven't had any issues with them. have had over the years a sienna $45-50, a solstace and aernos sp $60-70 and the new aernos at about $120.solstace 1000sienna 1000

very light, sensative and an excellent cast. I liked the 1-4kg rod so much i got the 4-7kg rod and put a 2500 shimano baitrunner on it for live baiting in the lake. only thing i dislike about the rod is the casting butt length, being a short bloke i find it annoying having the rod butt pressed right up against me. good rod if you're above 6ft high or have long arms. How do you find the Revo Smokey? Had a Feel in BCF and they were crazy light.

the 2-4kg graphite rods at k-mart with cork handles are actually decent. i think there jarvis walker but they are light and cast a mile and have strength to pull in legal mullys. about 30bux i've used my mates at the lake a few times and can cast a mile unweighted cubes of bait. very sensitive rods can feel every head shake and knock with them.

i use a shimano aernos 1000 with 5lb bite motion on a 1-4kg abu revo rod. good combo for under $200 using a small combo lets you feel the true power of the fish

Thanks guys' date=' i decided to go to my local tackle store for a couple of reasons.1. they can do a better job than me backing with mono,2. I dont have any leftovers that will go to waste.3. Reel takes a lot more braid than stated on the specs.4. Had to get out of the house. Have been going Mad with this weather.End result $20 for 197mCheersDamian[/quote']sounds like dorsal fin to me

should add they have a lipped spool like most shimano reels. allows the line to fly off the spool with ease. i've cast 2gram jigheads over 50m with ease.

can vouch for the aernos reel i have owned them all 1000, 2500 and 4000 sizes. have caught snapper, mullys, rays, proper salmon, bream, redfin, carp etc on them.I'd recommend the 1000 size if you want to flick lures. it comes with a 2-4kg rod so load it up with 4-6lb braid and your all set. ring your local store first to make sure they have them. i did sell a few over the weekend :silly: 20lb carp on 2lb mono on a sp

got a baitrunner reel yet? If your gonna use it yakking a baitrunner makes it easier. they had okuma epix 40 baitfeeders for $99 dunno if they still have them at this price though. either that or a shimano 4000dl baitrunner would be ideal. i use the 2500dl baitrunner and caught the flathead and rugger on 10lb braid the photo i sent you

Anyone here using fake power pro braid

I've had no issues with "fake" power pro. If I could afford to I would buy local but I could buy 10 spools online compared to 1 in store here. I just make sure my knots are strong and use a decent leader.
