  1. As much a I would be ticked off with my gear going in the water there's no way would you get in in the water at night especially if in deep water.. You're a braver man than me, good to see you got them and yourself back on dry land too..

Years ago when I was snapper fishing near the fairway beacon my anchor rope became wrapped around the propeller when the incoming tide slackened off before it turned to go out.. With my 18' Hartley Interceptor cabin cruiser having a inboard motor meant I had to go over the side and under the boat to untangle it. What made it worse was the fact early on we had seen a couple of Hammerhead sharks in the area, it was the worst few minutes I've ever spent in the water. 😩😫

  2. Back on the 3rd November 2019 I caught my 10,000th wild Tasmanian trout after we moved to Tasmania back in March 2000, on this trip I caught my 11,000th trout. Here's how the spin session went to get that 11,000th trout & thanks for watching. I often wonder how many trout I would have caught had our trout season not been over nine months. With three months a year missed fishing the rivers for trout adds up to over 5 years of fishing I've lost & over approx 2,500 trout not being caught and released.. food for thought..

  3. Had a friend (Mark an avid fly fisherman) over from South Australia who loves fly fishing for trout so I took him for a session in the Mersey River. The only problem was Mark forgot to throw his fly fishing vest in my car when I picked him up, the vest had all of his trout flies in it. Thankfully for some reason I took and extra Okuma trout spinning set up with me & a spare vest, Mark had no choice but to become a spin fisher for this trip. Thanks for watching..

  4. Thanks guys,

Tinker, it's like everything I have my good days and bad days, the good  days, weather permitting I get to hop in a river. The bad days I stay home and sulk.. 😀 We've had a lot of rain down here ( & still are) and the rivers are still running too high, all the Hydro Dams are spilling at the moment so it will be some time before the larger rivers drop to a safe wading level.  Lets hope your're soon back there fishing too, a bit of bait fishing is still good for the soul..👍

Kelvin, the colours of those rainbows was the best I've seen in them for a couple of seasons now..

    cheers

  5. Finally one of my regular rivers had dropped to a level that was safe for wading, it was still a little higher than I preferred. The water temperature was up to 11 degrees as well, much better than the six degrees that's it been on. Even though the trout were a little scarce it was good to get onto a couple of nice rainbows, my first for the season. Thanks for watching..

    cheers

I remember that in one of your reports - certainly an adventurous and nerve racking crossover :)

Yes, I there is on on the site too, after I got in touch with the Inland Fisheries they have someone looking into it to see if there can be a warning siren setup before they let water out for irrigation. Whether it happens or not, will have to wait and see.

Like everything, the powers to be will wait until an inexperience angler drowns before they do something about it..

  7. That's been the main problem doobie, snow melt, high water level and 5 degree (on average)water temps.. The river needs to drop to 60 cms & warm up to ten degrees and more before it will fire up, the river has a regulated flow from Huntsman Lake & the levels fluctuate throughout the trout season for irrigation purposes. That's how I got caught out last season when they let water out when I was on the wrong side of the river, it took me twenty minutes to slowly make my way across from the opposite river bank to safety. There was no way out behind me as it's all wild vegetation & thick scrub for miles, I had to make my way across to where I took the photo below. It's all a part of trout fishing, that's where knowing a river like the back of your hand is very helpful.

  8. The Meander River water level had dropped to a safer wading level, so that's where I headed. Even though it was higher than I would have liked I knew an area I could wade as long as I took it easy. Not the session I wanted but still managed a few hits from the trout. The water temperature is still very low and the flow was on the fast side, the fishing will improve as the water level drops to the 60 cm mark. It still nice to finally get into one of the larger river for a change of scenery.. Thanks for watching..

** Since this tip we've had a heap of rain and the rivers are all running high again... snow down to 200 mtrs is forecast overnight as well..😪

  9. This trip was on the 11-9-21

I finally had a reasonable spin session today before the weather turned sour as well as taking a plunge in the water. 10 trout caught & released from 11 hook ups, all taken on the Mepps #00 gold Aglia Mouche Noire & gold Aglia Mouche Rouge inline spinners. I certainly gave the new Okuma ITX-1000 reel a good workout during my three hours in the water too, it did it's job to perfection. As soon as I caught the first trout on the first cast I knew I was in for a good spin session. On the walk back to the car I decided to give one more stretch of water a go, big mistake that was. As I made my way up in waist deep water I trip on a submerged log, Yep!! I took the plunge in the drink, drowned another camera (my third now) too.. Thank you my brain was engaged and I pulled it from the inside of my waders in quick time, it was wet and went a little hay wire when I turned it on. I rushed back to the car and dried it off with the car heater, it's back in good working order again.. Not only that, while heading back to the car I took the camera battery & memory card out to dry them off. After walking some 40 yards or so I couldn't find the memory card, I had dropped it somewhere. I back tracked and was lucky enough to spot it in the grass.. Was it luck or pure arse that I found it, I didn't really care, all that mattered was I found it, plus it had all of the mornings spin session on it as well as 2,600 other photos.. It was still a top few hours spent chasing trout anyway even with the little mishap.. 😁😁

  10. Finally after several days of rain we finally had a nice Spring day so I headed of to check out one of my regular large rivers only to find it running too high for safe wading.
I did spend a little time there flicking a #1 Aglia-e inline spinner around before heading off to my favorite & ever reliable small tannin stream.
That was also running high, much high than my previous trip a week ago,, anyway I spent some time in it and caught & released a few wild browns..
    cheers

Good to see them upgrading the St Kilda ramp.

And yep Savage, the West Bch ramp is a nightmare with the weed problem for the boaties.

Even the new marina at Cowell is looing the goods for the locals.

I remember when they came up with the plan to build the West Beach ramp and they were told that there would be a problem with the sand movement and a large build up of weed.. They ignored the report and still went ahead with it..

    cheers

  12. Just got home from seeing the orthopedic surgeon, I was in & out of there within five minutes..

Hips have arthritis but no need for replacements which was great news.. The bad news was the fact my L3, L4 & L5 discs

are  just about non existent and need urgent attention, so now I have to see a spine specialist or neurosurgeon..

I have another dose of injections tomorrow so will see my doctor and ask why the hell wasn't I referred to those specialists

first up.. Actually it was a woman doctor at the surgery who organised the appointment, so I gather he will she why she didn't follow this up.. So 14 months of waiting to see this surgeon today has just been a waist of time & a 50 kilometre drive.

"NOT HAPPY JAN" that's for sure..🤬
