    Thanks Adrian.

It was a nice keeper and crumbed with Panko tonight for tea :)

Even back in your day :) it would have still been a little dangerous on those rocks - but a Northerly would have helped sooth the soul of no real breakers hitting those rocks.

I'd like to try the rocks on that point, but am not game lol - I have done the far end Parsons rocks/cliff but even then I was still 'concerned' and didn't cast more than a dozen times before I felt enough was enough

Fair enough doobie, if you're not comfortable with fishing from the rocks then don't do it, like I always say, "No fish is worth drowning for ".. I was used to it as I was a regular rock fisher back in my younger days right up until we moved to Tassie. Stick with what you know best mate..👍

  2. Nice video, very windy conditions there too doobie.. Nothing better than hooking a few salmon in the surf, shame you lost more than you landed. The fish you did land was still a nice keeper anyway. When it used to blow from the North that's when I used to fish from the rocks between Waits & Parsons, used to fish well in those conditions as the fish were always in close to the rocks. The strong Northerlies always kept the swell down.. It wasn't all that easy getting to and from the rocks though, but the rewards were worth the effort.. Still I was a lot younger back then too..😃 Doubt I'd do it now days..

    cheers

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but seeing it wasn't closed, thought I add my 2 cents.

Back in the 70's and early 80's we'd venture to the OH breakwater a couple of times year. Always in daylight. Night, lol, was too much like playing Russian roulette with the devil.

Aside from mulloway and snapper, if you were lucky, you'd hook up some decent size King Gorge Whiting too. Though, to be fair, in those days, fish were aplenty, locally.

Unless the breakwater has undergone repairs since, rock hopping was definitely a task you had to take care at.  The snail win the race on this one, that's for sure.

The other thing, not sure if it's still a problem, but there was a vermin (rat) issue. Some where the size of small cats, and not scared to have a got at you, if you cross paths with them. Hence a good pair of solid boots, with a well gripping sole, and even steel caps wont go astray. Especially if those rats are still inhabiting the rocks.

Same here Dave061, I used to fish it quite often for snapper at night, backpack with only what was needed for the long walk to the end of the breakwater. The hardest part was the walk back carrying a few snapper that was slung over the back. The biggest problem I had at night was the light on the rocks cast a shadow and it was easy to miss your next step even worse when it was wet and windy. Like you said the fishing was a lot better back in those days too and it was well worth doing the hard yards for a fish.. Best thing would be to chase Mulloway in the Port River, a good area was close to the Birkenhead Bridge (on the Birkenhead side), the wrecks at Garden Island, Pelican Point & the old ETSA site in the Port River.. I don't know what's it's like now days though a lot has changed in the twenty years since we've been in Tasmania. I did hear there's not a lot of access along the river like there once was.. Caltex wharf was one of my favorite breams spots using blood worms.. They were the good days in the Port..🙂

    cheers

    Adrian.

  4. That was brilliant, certainly one very entertaining fishing video.. Not sure if they were brave or plain dumb fishing where they were. Good on them anyway..the last part from 1:00:00 mark to the end was great..

    cheers

  5. Years ago when I lived in the Port area & fished for KGW's I used to collect cockles from the sand flats opposite the old Outer Harbour boat ramp on low tide, I gather that area is probably changed now with the extension of the outer breakwater. Razor fish was also a great bait to use on the whiting as well, they used to be plentiful on the other side of the breakwater as well, I used to have a raze fish grapple in my boat to collect them. They were reachable on low tide too.. why don't you spend a day at Goolwa collecting them, always a good day spent on the beach. As yellow door stated, Squid mashed with a hammer was always a good bait on the whiting.. All of my whiting fishing was done on the other side of the revetment wall in the white patches among the weed beads.. Then again I'd say that area isn't what it once was either..

  8. All of my trout rods are ULS 1-3kg Daiwa Presso, Impri & Okuma Celilo 6' & 6'6" which are all well suited to the reels I mentioned earlier.

Beautifully light weight balanced set ups with those reels. That Inspira reel retail is $140-00 too not $1140-00, sorry must have hit the 1 twice..☺️

    cheers

    Adrian.

  9. I have a  Daiwa Revros 1003 &  Revros 2004H spinning reels that I use for trout fishing and they've been great, a nice  light well balanced reel.

I been using them for three years without any hassles,

** Also the Okuma Inspira ISX-20B (retail $1140-00) & Epixor EPXT-20 ($100-00) are also nice small light weight spinning reels..

    cheers

    Adrian..

  10. I've been meaning to put this on the site for some time, forgot all about it..

Not for the want of trying I finally caught and released a decent size wild brown trout for a change. Even better was the fact it was my personal best of the season so far. Still hoping to break the one kilo mark & better before the season ends on the last Sunday closest to the end of April 2021. The larger three rivers (Meander, Mersey & Leven) I fish do hold a few trout well over the kilo size, it's just a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

     cheers

    Adrian

  11. Thanks HB, actually I don't normally use that type of snap for the hard body lures, the reason it's on there is because I've been too slack to change it to those in the photo that I have set up on my other 10 trout rods.. the ones in the photo are what I normally have set up on the rods.. In the first lot of photos you'll notice the swivel I normally have set up, that's what I have on the other trout rods, I rotate my use of rods on a regular basis..

That snap swivel hasn't altered how the lure works.. I'm glad you noticed it, it's made me get off my a**e and change it... 😃😃

    cheers
