Everytime I've caught toothies they've always broken the fluoro, but the last one had to come for a 3km peddle before she broke the leader, she was a bit feisty and didn't feel like trying to remove my hand oops cut through the line.
Yeah i think the 2 way removal would be the better option👍

Hi all wondering what the biggest Redfin Perch is that has been caught in SA waters.
I managed a Pb pushing 40cms on the weekend, not huge but a cracker fish for a freshwater novice like me.
    Whats your biggest?
    Cheers LL

I was trying to explain a set of wheels i made for my old yak on a post Softy has started, and thought rather than hijack his post i would post it here.
I got this design from vic kayak fishing (vyak.net), used items. 2 green machine wheels  (kmart $8 each), a length of 12mm allthread, 4 m12 nuts and washers for axel, a length of 25mm ID high pressure pvc pipe, 4 pvc T joiners one 10mm waterproof yoga matt (high density) pvc cleaner and glue, a 1 ltr tin tarzan grip or similar glue. Optional 25mm dowel, to strengthen axel in pvc and spaces as required.
Note the bottom T peices could be attached 90° this is where you would glue a peice of dowel in each side of the frame (and inside the cross peice) to support the axel, the risers must pass though the top of the scupper so you can put a stopper though to stop the wheels falling out when lifting the yak.
When gluing the foam on, both sufaces must clean have glue on them, allow the glue to dry to tacky before joining, then just wrap them around until your happy with the diameter of the wheel, the diameter you require must be taken into consideration when making the frame, make the first secion (risers to first cross member then put this in your upturned yak to measure the spaces for the second (axel) cross member, pay attention when gluing, as once you join the peices they can't be taken apart, when you have worked out the diameter of you wheels thus the hight of the spacer peices, now decide whether you are adding spacers inside the axel cross member or not, as a guide under 20kg you shouldn't need them, if your going to be dragging you 20kg yak and gear over rough terrain then have the T peices on the flat and have one or two spaces inside the cross member and one in the outside of each T peice.
How much padding? The yoga matt padding has to advantages, to increase the diameter of the wheels and make them soft enough to cushion the ride, the bigger the diameter the easier it is to move the trolly, the padding makes it easier to move the trolly over rough terrain, but there's no need going rediculously big on the diameter  (remember it still needs to fit in the car)
Hope this explains the how to 😉

I clean  an scale the salmon then cut it in to cutlets with all bones intact except I cut off the dorsal fin  ,then  place the cutlets into a pressure  cooker then add at least 1 to 11/2 cups of salt water I use sea water when I can, if not add 1 table spoons of salt or make it to your own liking then pressure cook for 1 hour when it finishes cooking allow to cool then strain the salmon an pack into clean preserving jars, top each jar with good quality olive oil  then sterilize in a water bath for 30 minutes seal the lids an allow to cool, it should keep for a year or more, it is delicious on toast, biscuits. toasted pitta bread it is well worth the effort to make all my friend rave about it, hope you go can  to the effort enjoy look forward to your comments

Yeah I gave them an hour to defrost but they were just getting flung around the bucket - I either need a skinnier bucket or much more burley on top of the blades to stop the carp bits flying around.

Salted carp is pretty tough and my methods were pretty poor.

I spool mono through my gloved fingers with some tension, but have no idea what that tension would be.
I'll spool braid with more tension through my gloved fingers though due to not wanting the braid to be loose and creating knots/bird nest within a few casts.
But one thing I don't know how to or understand, is using xkg of drag on the reel.  Twisting that dial to get a certain drag in weight tension is beyond me, so I just tighten or loosen as necessary

If your reel's gears get damaged winding on line under tension then it's a piece of crap. 😉

When you put mono on a reel you don't want to put any stretch in the line. Just using your fingers is enough to get it on firmly but not overly tight.
Braid should be put on the reel with as much tension as possible. It has no stretch and getting it on tightly will eliminate lots of issues. I use the phone book method.
Find a phone book (I've got one I kept just for this job). Set the drag on the reel pretty high. Run the line through the middle on the book and put weight on top until the rod bends under the pressure of winding. I use boxes of jigs usually. Obviously the amount of weight needed will vary depending on the outfit and line strength.

I use digital luggage scales to set mine - then just dont touch the dial for that session.

After a while - you get to know what certain drag settings feel like with different braids - You just pull line off the spool against the drag - I know I've gone too far if my fingers start bleeding

Hi fellas. Here's a pic of my best metro mully caught just b4 I sold my cuddy cab a little while back. Over the 50lb mark. These fish don't come easy but magic can happen for those who persist. I just hope my new boat is lucky also. Cheers

That's pretty good yellow door and an interesting trial.
So you'd probably get around 50 odd days if you had been taking to fish with, considering warmth of days while out of fridge.
Will very interesting if you decide to try them in the coir/coconut fibre.
