  1. Would have been great to get word of this more than a week out, my first though was future leaders of what? recreational fishing leadership in this state is almost totally volunteer work with no support from government but plenty of frustration, suit a glutton for punishment.(no offence intended to those hard working volunteers who do a great job)I like tacklebags suggestion of doing the course and then moving to vic to use your skills and knowledge as it would be wasted in SA.If it's on again next year with more than a few days notice I will be attending then moving to vic soon after!
  2. Some nice work from Jason there that explains why the Glenelg river has been full of sprat mullies for the last couple of years :)Funny how the majority of scientific discoveries in SA salt and freshwater are uncovered by Vic fisheries AR institute  Thanks for the link Yorke Angler
  3. Found the fish kill I mentioned, happened at awonga on 20-12-2010 most of the large cod 90cm+ went over the wall and littered the banks with thousands of them.
  4. A couple of those dams overflowed in the floods before you went up there, aparently they lost the majority of large barra over the wall and out to sea, could explain why they where quiet?
  5. Doubble uni will also work fine
  6. I hear the best time for fishing up there is the runoff, late may to late june, but it's also the time that everyone else goes up there so it's like fishing on burke street.I'm heading up far north QLD prob in september this year fishing with a mate who goes up every year, If I where you I'de look for a guide that can take you out and show you a few tricks before going it alone NT would be the pick of the states with the most water and barra
  7. Dunk any reel in water and you'll get water in the bearings which will require a service, clean, dry and re-oil, New Daiwa reels are better equiped with magseal to prevent water/salt getting into the main bearing because they are fully sealed, shimano are not, so less service is needed on Daiwa reels after a swim not more.Plat and digitaka sites have some good buys as well
  8. Theres good reasons why light high end quality rods have cork grips, the main one being much greater feedback through the rod as EVA acts like a big sponge that reduces feel, fine for snapper and the like but for small finiky species and light tackle Eva is not great!
  9. I fish it every weekend so have half a clue, for camping contact parks vic to book sites or as mentioned theres plenty of cabbin and rental accomidation in Nelson itself. The estury is always good for bream, the furthur you venture down toward the mouth the better the bream fishing is. Always worth a try around the poles for mulloway on a moving tide, best to hit that area with vibes, tea bagging will get better results than casting! For perch head up mid river and up as you'll only find peckerhead perch under 40cm downstream from dry creek.Mulloway are throughout the whole river and a couple of
  10. Salmon are a year round proposition down in the south east, just have to find the right conditions which are normally big swell, high tide dawn and dusk. The marina doeas hold some good bream at times but the lake in Robe holds more and bigger fish!cheers
  11. If you want to do it the old fashioned cheap arsed red-neck way, place the head on a meat ants nest for 2-3 days then remove, allow head to dry in full sun for about 2 weeks then give a coat of laquer and add some marbels for eyeballs or if you want it done properly go the taxidermist route
  12. for braid used for hardbodies and blades I use 10lb sunline castaway PE.6For plastics I use sunline Momentum 4x4 10lb PE.6 in high vis yellow.Leaders vary between 4-6lb sunline rockfish or V-hard depending on the structure i'm fishing. All these lines aren't for the budget conscious being at the high end of the market but the performance and long life-span make them well worth the $ cheers
  13. Chinese= rubbishJapanese= qualityWaste of money buying inferior lures, catch rates and confidence will drop sharply
  14. Not great line but you get what you pay for with braid, better for spin reels than baitcasters because of it memory.
  15. Looks like the beaches down here on a calm day
  16. I would be looking for rods between 6' and 7' one heavy like you mentioned 4-8kg and a lighter 2-4kg for picking up callop/carp/catty bites on shrimp ect any rod over 5kg is overkill for callop and carp same as rods over 7ft= no benifit for bank or boat fishing inland You'll have far more control over a big fish with a shorter rod of around 6'.cheers
  17. You'll neeed to get some Ferro fluid for the service which is the 'special Grease' that Brenton mentioned, I'm told it's available on e-bay.I recently got 2 serviced by Daiwa $60 each cheers
  18. not if your out to break your own pb..Or your rod :cheer: Agree that theres no need for 6kg drag on a 1500 From that description alone they sound like junk!
  19. Snapper fishing is already too easy, find a spot drop a burley pot, drop your bait and wait for rod to bend,,, if nothing happens repeat process at a different spot I only charge $400 for that info but for this one time only offer it's free
  20. Thats why they are called fish congregating devices mate, thats the whole idea. They start a food chain that would otherwise not be there so it would create greater numbers because it provides food to support them.
