Sounds like a new video coming up soon
Good luck up there Alex.
I lived in Whyalla for 8 years doing a bit of fishing but never tried Pt Augusta, but seems there will be good fishing for you.

Great report wilda and nice photos.
Even though not much action it is still great to get away from it all, watch the sea, probably talk to yourself a little and the enjoy some nice patties -which look good

Been looking after wifey as she hasn't been too well for a couple of weeks. Otherwise would have been out a couple of times chasing the salmon.

Anyone get into any salmon action over the weekend?
Had a go at Maslins Sunday arvo, lots of walking and casting and not a touch.
You must be doing it all wrong lol.
Very happy with my new lure bag setup though, a Daiwa Trout Bag with my own customised lure storage system!
Yeah like keeno said, pictures sounds an interesting setup.

Nice catch rybak. Always nice on barbie especially when over on KI as well.

Excellent Underpants and great pictures also.
Although you didn't get the full on action of fish for your trip, at least there were some around which kept the interest going.
Some homebrew, some red and your mate getting dunked made it all worthwhile

its taking me too utube but no flood footage buggered if i know mate lol
hoopsy, try just going to google / youtube and search words such as Tasmania floods Drone or similar words. You should then a number of articles that will have drone footage. May not be the exact footage from link above but drone footage anyway. Hope that helps a little.

Great competition yet again and Bjorn for organising.
And a huge thanks also to SPOTTERS for the major SPOTTERS prize pack.

Nice lot of links Kuerschie and thanks for going to the trouble.
I know where you're coming from and that the search is a good thing and best to try, but I might add that the op is new on the site and will get the hang of things soon. Also, some things can change over time with rods used for any fishing, so what may have been good before may have changed for the better now.

Good question Nick as I know I need to have a better casting setup and will be interested in what others have or suggest.
-
Good to hear it worked, till the last knot anyway At least there is definitely a reason to keep some balm in the pocket !
You must have to much strength in the arms so when you cast you created a fused line

hahaha boom boom

Well, the Port Noarlunga jetty has just been closed due to conditions (+ Commercial Rd closed, by playground, due to flooding) and suspect other jetties as well.
Onk footbridge nearly under water !
When it calms a bit, is it snapper time

Went to porties jetty. Had a few bites but nothing to serious.
I went to Porties for a look (no fishing) today around 2'ish and it was quite windy from the North. I was surprised as at my place there was no wind at all.
There were a reasonable amount of people fishing from the shallows to the end, but not much caught while I was there for a hour - very small tommies and gar at the end, a reef fish in the middle as well as someone using a crab net and a couple mullet in the shallows (and a tall African appearance person was taking undersized).
No-one seemed to be berleying too hard considering there was a small school of salmon swimming around yesterday

No mullys willing to play in the Onk last night.
Do they think we just come out for no reason ?? They gotta get their act together or i ain't playing with them either !!

I hope you are all successful with catches during this 'lull' in weather. Just watched the news weather and looks like tomorrow morning (maybe even the afternoon also) will still be good to wet a line.

Mondays are my usual main fishing day during the week, but last Monday was crap so didn't go and next Monday looks to be even crappier!
Was going to try flicking some lures around the beaches this morning but with al the weed around I'm not going to bother. So will be waiting for this next big blow to finish and see what tactics I'll try.
Good luck to all that are able to get out ..... and be careful once the winds start up again,
Deep Fryer Oils & Tips needed.
in In The Kitchen
Posted
Well I have been pondering on buying a deep fryer for a while after seeing a few pics of foods on here that made me think I wish I could do cook some calamari or chips etc like that.
I had caught some squid, ringed them, and tried to ‘deep fry’ them in a wok on the BBQ – not bad, but not that good either.
So in the end I decided to buy a deep fryer (Smith + Nobel twin 3.5L fryer), but now need some advice on from those who are experienced ‘deep fryer chefs’
Things like:-
( I have googled a bit and so far it seems Sunflower is quite good along with extra light olive oil. Both have high flash point and good monounsaturated and polyunsaturated amounts)
( I have read best not to use more than 2 or 3 times – or do you discard after each cook)
( I have looked in some supermarkets for the Sunflower but don’t see 4L containers or for that matter I don’t even see Extra Light Olive oil. Are there other places that sell the oils cheaper? I won’t be deep frying very regularly, so price I suppose won’t matter too much, but if there are some cheaper selling place, why not!)
( Love to hear about your deep frying tips, may be step by steps, tasty batters, how to get a great ‘crisp’ etc.)
So any advice, help and tips would be greatly appreciated and I’m sure will help other deep fryer chefs as well.
(ps: the smith+nobel was from Harris Scarfes, but searching for info on the S+N it seems it could be HS own brand – but have my doubts on that)
