1. Thanks purnong.I did know Tohatsu made Mercs but didn't know about the price/warranty. Got quoted' date=' from memory, $3200 for an 18hp. But hopefully it's a long way off, fingers crossed.[/quote']Ouch, $3200 is pretty highI bought a 15hp Merc Super brand new for $2150 late last year and with a small adjustment of the throttle stop screw now have the 18 poniesI also have a 50hp Tohatsu and I can tell you the six monthly servicing comes around pretty fast and is completely unwarranted in my opinionOne time I had only put an hour on the motor over winter and the dealer wanted to do a complete service, I decided I'm not playing that game and will service myself and cop any issues that ariseI may win or I may lose and I'm happy to accept that, They are good motors though
2. Tohatsu outboards are a top motor. Can't remember who it was but the Navy or sea rescue (something along those lines) used to use them' date=' and still might, because of their reliability. When I re-power the tinny I'm almost certain It will be with an 18hp Tohatsu. [/quote']They are used on the Surf Rescue RIB'sIf you are looking for a Tohatsu 18hp look at the Mercury 15 Super, It's the same motor and you might find it a bit cheaper also Merc give a 5 year warranty with 12 month servicing whereas Tohatsu are 3 years and six months servicingTohatsu make most of the Merc 2 strokes up to 40hp
3. Pretty sure Parsun and Tohatsu are two different manufacturers (Actually I know they are)Parsun = Chinese and Tohatsu = JapaneseI know which one I would buy and it wouldn't be the Chinese one, Tohatsu have a very good reputation for reliability so if it was my money/life on the line the Toey would win hands down

4. Yeah those Willow type eskies are crapHave a look at the Techniice range, They get a good wrap around the place and are fairly well pricedhttp://www.techniice.com/ice-box-categoriesI think SAFCOL also sell ice boxes and I've heard they are pretty good too, I bought an ice box from Supercrap Auto with a cushion on top and that has been good and it makes another handy seat in the tinny as well

5. I think you only need flares in unprotected waters, Even with a kayak but you would need to be pretty keen to be out there in a kayakNo licence necessary to buy them though, Just wander into the local boating accessory joint and buy them, A little linky for info for youhttp://www.sa.gov.au/upload/franchise/Transport,%20travel%20and%20motoring/Boating/Recreational%20handbook/SAFETY%20EQUIPTMENT.pdfAnd Anotherhttp://www.sa.gov.au/subject/Transport,+travel+and+motoring/Boating+and+marine/Marine+publications/South+Australian+Recreational+Boating+Safety+Handbook

6. A brilliant manifestation of political knee-jerk stupid rule outcomes generating' date=' ahem, unintended consequences...I`m standing by for a finessing of the rules down to prohibition during daylight hours of "wire trace [b']or non-homogeneous monofilament line" etc.Followed by another workaround...followed by another loophole found...
That's a very valid point Kon, Make a stupid rule and everyone will work around it, Make a rule everyone understands the reasoning behind it and it will become second nature because it makes sense to the majority
If the terminal tackle actually used was as advised in the above posts - then' date=' regardless of one`s personal opinions of the pastime, regardless of whether it was intentional or not, I must acknowledge that (arguably) a group of individuals have made a rather profound socio-political statement...[/quote']Mate, I'm not sure what you are trying to say here but it sounds impressive and if I was in a management meeting the bullshit bingo card would be running hot :)  All good mate I've had a few tonight and not meaning to offend: Tight Lines, lol
7. Sick o shark shit

That's the problem Chief, Shark shit and what it containsAccording to the media and selected SLSA clubs Shark Shit is made up of the rotting corpses of cute small children,Lifesavers and small white furry puppiesThese things are not what shark shit should be made of and the evil fishermen should be banned and punished for making it soSame as the reason there has been so many shark attacks in WA this year is because of all the chicken carcasses being used in crab nets in Adelaide metroCan't be too careful mate
8. little bit small but... (I erased the faces' date=' pixelated anyway).I was obviously focused on the shark and not the shirtless guys... coz there's two of them in the picture lol and its not as dark as I remember. But there it is, from facebook (nothing you upload is ever truely gone). So no, the lighting was not fudged.

So what are you saying from this info Kingsley? Whats the goss on the capture and where & when it was?Happy to eat humble pie if I'm wrong
9. Interesting that the surf club member had his children swimming in the ocean at 8PM when "the rod went off"I have been taking my kids down the beach for donkeys years and there is no way I would have them in the water at sunset and especially on a school nightLike I said earlier there is something fishy about this story, Methinks "Myth Busted"I might send the links to media watch and see if they'll pick it up

10. Again I say where is the proof this picture is taken where they are saying it was takenIf I was a person genuinely concerned about such things and wanted to make a point I would be making sure that there were swimmers in the background or one of the jetties and probably both when taking the pictureAnd why is there no comments section on Adelaide now for this story? Something smells a little fishy about this oneThat pic could have been taken anywhere

11. I was having a poke around on the BOM site and came across this gem.Boating Weather Series - Wind Waves Weather - South AustraliaIt appears to be a free book that was published back in 1998 that goes into detail about understanding local weather patterns etc. interesting read.we all rely so much on online weather forecasts now' date=' I bet hardly anyone knows how to read a synoptic chart :)[/quote']Excellent stuff, Thanks KingsleyWell worth a read for any boatie or anyone that has an interest in the weather
12. Remember years ago on the old Rapid Bay jetty the old Italians hanging the kero lamp under the jetty to catch squidWas very effective at the time and the old fella's knew how to entice em out of the waterThis was before the prawn type jag and most were using the wire type with a peeled spud on the end Unheard of these days, Christ I must be getting old

13. Hi All' date='Just had a heads-up that the Council will be Gating this Road off in two places, prior to building an Old Folks Home on the site of the Railway builders Offices!I have the Plans in a PDF File if any one is interested?Cheers, tonyb.[/quote']You will still be able to get to the river through there Tony, But you will have to wind your way through the new subdivision and come in on the Eastern side of the new gatesSame as the poor buggers who have the existing homes on Saurbiers Rd, Man their world has changed a lot in the last 12 months
