  1. I use soft racks for my kayak which is 33 kg. They should be absolutely fine for a swag.
  2. I fish those spots a bit, still catch the same species though never a legal sized whiting. but salmon trout fishing is still good and you get the odd flathead, bream trevally tommies gar puffers and cow fish Haven't been down there since the dredging started though
  3. troll up and down the northern outer harbour breakwall for salmon trout, pretty easy to get a few during winter. you can berley them to keep them in an area once you locate them. plenty salmon trout off northhaven rockwalls too port river for salmon trout too
  4. Ha that's funny, but nothing to lose you head over Does that happen in the ocean or in an estuary? Squid pretty much always go for the neck of a fish and chomp through with their beaks. might be the culprit if they are in the area you are "losing your noggins." would explain why it doesn't take drag maybe??
  5. Agree with rotare, We stayed down of the coral coast 10 years ago and while the water was pretty clear we still refer to the resort as ol' swampy'. we did a charter from the resort that went just to the surrounding water, in half an hour the crew had snapped the anchor rope, one crew fell overboard and no one got any fish LOL Going out to the outer islands is amazing though. we snorkelled the island where they filmed castaway. it was incredible If you've seen the ifish series when they went to Fiji last year the fishing can be pretty amazing out there
  6. I use a small (size 10 I think) circle hook, these are deadly in the surf as the bait is moving slightly with the swell and the hook up rate is near 100%. I tend to use gents or cockles in the close gutters at waitpinga etc. as mentioned patternosta and running sinker rig works well or a float. Size 10 long shanks hooks are good when using worms or prawn
  7. Hi all, Just after any recommendations for doing a charter from Marion Bay YP later this year. If you could share your experience and the charter that would be great thinking about going April/May
  8. see link pages 11-17 has current knowledge on Mulloway http://www.pir.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0004/232357/Mulloway_Stock_Assessment_Report_-_FINAL.pdf this one might interest a few of you too http://www.pir.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0004/262723/Coorong_DietTrophic_Report_-_FINAL.pdf
  9. Freshwater flows out of the Murray are migration cues for mulloway, they used to be caught up in Milang until the barrages were put in and changed the environment in the lakes
  10. Carp is great, stays on the hook really well too. Killer on bream and salmon
  11. Just a quick report as short on time.. Got onto a few fish while away though not in the numbers we were hoping. we managed some squid, KGW, Yelllowfin whiting, flathead, tommies, snook, trevally and salmon trout. The Jetty was hit and miss for squid but we usually ended up with between 2-6 per session. Baby tommies were in plague proportions over some of the whiting grounds when we could get out in the boat (which wasn't often thanks to persistent 20 knot winds). The squid were mostly small with the occasional 25cm hood showing up. Threw out a slug on the way through the marina and h
  12. Hi all I’m heading to Tumby Bay on Saturday. Never been before and wondering if anyone has some general advice on the area. Mostly shore based fishing. Chasing salmon flathead gar and squid. Any good snorkeling there too? cheers for any help

Hi Mickey, Have seen some good sized salmon coming out of west lakes (45cm+) in the last week. I know you fish there often too so maybe stick with westlakes for a while.
  14. Hi Aussie Dave, Love your posts this year so please don't take this as an attack on your views which I believe you are more than entitled to have. But I would like to step in here just to highlight that not all rec fishers fully support the ideals of SAFA etc. While I don't think SA has the optimal rec fishing representation currently I am very cautious about supporting rec fishing bodies like SAFA. My caution comes from some of the material I read from their site which is clearly wrong or demonstrates a lack of ecological understanding. A bit about me, I am not aligned with a
  15. has anyone ever tried turning aussie salmon into a fish jerky? would that work?
  16. The metro trouties started pretty early this year, though size is a little small. Was out on some metro rocks a couple of weeks ago having a fun session on 15-27 cm fish. My mate was running late, I was already in my spot of choice, I got 8 fish in 12 casts while he was walking up to me LOL I knew the bite would slow as soon as he got there and it did..pays to be on time haha
  17. go down Clarke street near the jetty then on to the last bit of the esplanade and fish from there down.
  18. pretty sure I saw some symetre 's in BCF the other day
  19. Shimano one does look like a very light rating, particularly if you are planning on throwing baits into the surf, it may struggle with a big star sinker if its only rated for 21 g lures. Id get whichever looks the most versatile Also if you plan on throwing lures around the weight of the rod may be a factor, some surf rods can get pretty heavy in the hands after a while.
  20. Ive stored Zmans in zip lock bags before, they destroy the bags a little(i.e. the white part of the zip lick bag that is there so you can write on it flakes off if that makes sense) but not a real big problem and doesn't effect the plastic except they go a little darker after 6 months. Putting them in zip lock bags means you can store them in your tackle trays with other plastics without having them touch, Tackle contraceptives LOL
  21. I personally wouldn't use a swivel when fishing plastics but you can try and see if the plastic swims ok. If the plastic stays straight and doesn't roll around it should be ok. Otherwise you're going to have to learn a leader knot of sorts I'm afraid Uni to uni is probably the simplest (well its the only one ive mastered anyway, I hate knots too ) the clips you show will probably work too, but again just check how your plastic swims/sinks etc.
  22. From my experience redfin, flathead and salmon dont care if you use a clip and the action of the plastic is still good. Have caught bream using clips too, but whether i would have caught more without using a clip....i haven't tested that
  23. wow great capture, shame about the lost one
