  1. quick trip to west lakes with the kiddies again yesterday. In between the hordes of tiny bream and trumpeters i managed 2 nice sized flounder about 30 cm. Never caught 2 in one day before. two different spots aswell. Was a fun day out
  2. had a couple hours at west lakes fri evening. Just the usual bream at the usual 20:1 ratio of mini bream to legals. Was great to see my 5 year old boy bait, cast, hook and land his first fish all by himself. He was stoked. Got some trumpeters too that went out as live baits but no takers. Maybe next time
  3. Reports from late last year were saying that toolondo was fishing really well.Fished there a lot as a kid,Its a great lake.
  4. Nice big mirror carp in there too, well done sun Did the swan put up much of a fight :woohoo:
  5. try varying your lure retreive, slow it down when you see them following or stop completely for short while. Play with different lure colours (blue seems best for me). Other wise if you know they are around throw some burley out and float some unweighted fish baits around
  6. Some bloke called Millsie put me onto that one and .. Yes' date=' it's a killer [/quote']I'll put another vote in for the halco twisties, particularly off a jetty, ive found if you cast out and keep the line tight they'll smash it on the sink, dont even need to reel in. You'll loose a few fish 'cause they use the weight of the lures to de hook themselves but its still cracker fun :silly:
  7. At the right time there are plenty of YFW just outside of the river mouth. I have swum over many a YFW over the years, often they are out a fraction further than a good cast.
  8. I take my 2 and 4 year olds out to west lakes a fair bit. Usually bower road end. the rocks arent too hard for them to navigate but if they are feeling a bit clumsy we just walk over to the left and fish off the beach near the the ramp
  9. i have encountered these in the barker inlet. Beautiful little fish

    Rod repair

Thanks so much for the replies, southoz rods is pretty close to home so will give that a shot. Cheers again
  11. I recently bought a new 7 ft berkley graphite soft plastic rod. Even more recently i managed to break it. It s a pretty clean break about 3 inches from the top. Can this be repaired? Can anyone give me any information regarding repairing it myself or know the name of someone with a good reputation for repairing rods? Any help greatly appreciated.
  12. same as above, theres stacks of them between cape jervis and KI. landed heaps on a charter fishing for snapper. Apparently they are pretty good eating too though we threw them alll back, Might have to try one next time.
  13. Thanks Kelvin, yeah they are the concerns that i had too. Thanks for your advice.
  14. Hi all, Been looking for a bday pressie for my dad and came across this scoopon for just cruising fishing charters http://www.scoopon.com.au/adelaide?utm_source=cotd&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=side. Does anyone have any experience with this charter company?Kind regards
  15. Yup, as i said in my last posthttp://www.strikehook.com/forum/23-freshwater-fishing/178872-torrens-redfinDefinatley a fantastic freshwater section on SH and has inspired me to get out a catch a few fish not far from home which i never knew i could previously. So much good info on here to help fishos get onto a couple of fish
  16. Ive only caught a few drummer off the rocks on the yorke pen'. They took fish peices. Great fish to catch , fight hard even when theyre small and there is always a snag waiting for them to bust you off on. From what ive seen, if they catch a glimpse of your line or the hoook they will leave your bait but quite happily eat all the burley from cms away from your bait. I think youve got to really present the bait well for the most part or just hope for the fat hungry one
  17. Interview with shrk expert Barry Bruce after the cottelsoe attack in oct.http://www.abc.net.au/news/video/2011/10/21/3345732.htm?site=hobartIn it he said a GW shark travels about 70km a day so if it attacked a person its very unlikely that it would be anywheere near where the attack occurred even after one day. needle in a haystack........
  18. The attack rate being so far above average should call for a re-evaluation in my opinion but not immediate action. Might be due to this attack being at such a touristy destination that fast action has been made to hunt it. I doubt theyll end up killing a shark over it though, they'll give up after a couple of days perhaps (just a guess), theres just no way to tell what shark is guilty so its a fruitless exercise. Is the area heavily fished by commercial/rec fisherpeople? Is there a lack of food for sharks causing them to take more people? or is it related to breeding grounds/season? These sho
  19. Hi all,Just came across this recent study and thought it might be interesting to a few of you and give you something to consider when selecting your tackle. (If you cant be bothered reading it all then it basically says that stainless steel hoooks dont oxidize quickly whereas carbon steel does, using hooks with baitholders promoted oxidation as it provides a weak point for decay and breakages. diametre of hooks at 0.9mm are better options for fast decay )Reviewing hook degradation to promote ejection afteringestion by marine fish 2011Shane P. 20. wow trout fiddler that would have awesome, definately a great fishing moment. Hate to say it though but that 10 kg trout in the first post would be pushing hard to go 10lb, maybe thats what breambo meant anyway.
  21. Forget the fish just make a huge lemon meringue pie :woohoo:
  22. my best is around 40 cm, from birkenhead. had about a 1.5 cm bit of tube worm left on the hook when i reeled my bait in and just happen to stop it for a second about 1m from the shore, watched the fish come out of nowhere and smash it. Yep lotta skill went into catching that fish
  23. Ive never caught one but the places i have seen them are at the cape jervis boat ramp, second valley jetty and the point lowly ramp, All seen in the summer, you probably allready knew those spots though
  24. There is a 'circular' water flow in gulf st vincent. The water comes in from the north of KI and along the western side till it gets to the top where it is pretty stagnant but it then flows out via the eatern (ie adelaide metro side) the out the bottom of the gulf again. Salinity levels are naturally higher north and east and fairly stable around KI. So at least they are putting the plant on the side of the gulf where water is leaving. But salinity levels are pretty high anyway so putting a desal plant in an inverse estuary (which the gulf is) that experiences dodge tides and where the whole w
  25. :woohoo: imagine copping an 80cm carp in the groin when skiing ha ha
