  1. I can check with the local agent tomorrow (Wednesday) if you like, as I have been called into work.we are on the south side of the city Gotone Stmarys.parts would be plastic if they are available.
  2. dradtaheny5 wrotehas anyone here done a fishing charter up in Darwin before? looking to head up there around christmas. any recommendations?might pay you to repost in a new topic.
  3. I've been about 45kms up from teatree crossing at saltcreek(looking for & catching sambos over 5kilos)that is pretty easy going for the most part, lower tyre pressures & keeping the camping gear to a minimum all helps. should be all good even at high water the beach close to the sandhills is raised a couple of metres. I proberbly would make it a convoy of 2 or more fourbys tho just for safty's sake.
  4. Yep they do, & can spit the bait out reel quick if the hooks arn't big enough.
  5. Pillies, yes fresh salmon trout fillets for the mullys!might be a bit early for mullys.a big school of salmon 3-4kg fish where down about 10kms from the mouth a couple of weeks ago so I'd head north & fish the gutters as you go! good luck.
  6. I think bradtaheny5 needs info on the BEACH side of the coorong not the coorong proper would I be correct in saying :cheer:
  7. EXCELLENT photo's looks like you enjoyed the holiday :cheer: :woohoo: Doc's just perscribed more fishing for me today, should look into a trip like this before to long.
  8. Years ago when bait fishing in the Onkaparinga estuary you would see these every so often when the water was clear enoughthe old boys called them tuckies. looked it up yes its a bridled goby.
  9. Cheers brenton, u reckon that bait or lures would be the go for bream? as i am not an eperienced lure fisherman i am thinking bait, i have heard that small crabs and shrimp are the best, unweighted or on a small ball sinker? "wishing2bfishing wrote"I think you need to get a ride out with one of the tournoment bream lads, like myself bream on lures or flies for that matter, on most days kills the bait bridgade.worked correctly a soft plastic or hardbody looks alive & with the graphite rods, braidline & the right leader material. A bit of practice & you will be hooked! (pun intended)
  10. coincidence, sharkbait just came in to my store after my last post, nice bloke, we had a good chat abought fishing the onk.
  11. OK, yer C&R crew i guess i'm one of those, have'nt killed a fish in years but even so i dont think most of us you have cataorgised there in that statement would deny anybody a feed of fresh healthy fish as we have in the past most likely taken fish for a feed. Now as for eating fish from the onk, I was about 18years old (38years ago) i bought home 2 breamfor tea we cooked em that night one for me & one for the old man, however 1 mouthful in my old man spits his piece of fish out on closer examination the breams meat had jellified I swore after this i would only C&R fish from the on
  12. Thanks for those kind replies, I think sorry to hear about the knee snaps, at least the fish get a reprieve for the time being!hey ranger I think you'd be standing in a long line to get at my fishing tackle :cheer: softy time goes quick these days & did'nt i see some grey hairs in your locks last time we met
  13. Hey alljust got the word from a surgeon i saw the other day got to have an operation on my spine he has to go in thru the front of neck (yikes)C7 disc has collasped & is pushing on the nerves to my left arm, so now i am lucky enough to have private hospital but its going to be months before he can do the surgery (lots of people a head of me i imagine with much worse problems)my GP assures me he is the best at this stuff. so my pride & joy (bream boat) wont be seeing the water for for some time to come. . Even the flyrods have to sit in the corner for a while, dam it, all cause of some
  14. Its a NO to all the above questions, however I will try to get a photo of some I have left in my own fly box & post on here when I have aminuteas there is a bit more interest again recently into fly fishing I will endevour to tie a fewmore flies & sell them.
  15. I use to tie a mean little gent pattern fly, use to sell em by the gross size 10 mustard 8260 limmerick hook tie in about 12 mm of some flashy polar flash for the tailthen tie in some white chinelle (me spilling up duuf crick this morn)i used a black 8/0 thread & finnished it with a little black tie off headjust used superglue to hold it altogether.if the gar were being akward about taking it on a slow retrieve I would put just a tiny little spot of tuna oil on the arse end, that got em in every time.also did aglow version but the material is no longer availaible.hope this helps.
  16. give the the port nourlunga jetty ago for salmon!!!!
  17. Pretty much there year round. Even when they are in plague proportions I have still caught fish al'little bit more from the deeper depths tho.
  18. In my last post i meant redfin fry pattern not fingerling. Another spot i fished was lake bellfield up the shallow end a dirt road goes down to a pinic area just up from bellfield flyfishing in front & to the right go a few rainbows & 1 brown on matuka patterns (wet fly slow retrieve or figure 8 retrive)(matuka patterns also work in toolondo) never got to fish fyans (bloody weather) had a look at the place, what i could see looked good.Rocklands when it was full was a bit harder to fish, for me anyhow fish had a lot of places to hide. however my first troll in the boat out in front of
  19. A few years back i was a regular boaty at toolondo but havent been back since it dryed upif wash tomorrow c/park still open go to the left of the ramp the inlet there regularly had fish rising in the afternoon on drys like the red tag, brown beetle style patterns.other patterns that worked there was a red fingerling pattern I tyed my own accounted for a nice brown to 2kilo mostly worked from a boat there but should activity close to shore.
  20. Some nice tying there. might have to try & tie a couple of those myself, what did you use for body material? if you don't mind me asking.Good luck on the fishing trip.
  21. this blank was primally designed to cast lures (only 4 wraps of glass) with 8 to 10kg line & lures weighing up to 75gms my recommended rod would be a 8144 this has 8 wraps of glass & will handle up to 15kg line large baits & heavy sinkers alot better.
  22. squidgies, powerbaits & probably 90% of other plastics are a petrochemical product of which have an indefinite life span.gulp, the new ecogear "plastics" & some other ones i cant think of right now are a food based product (not edible)(biodegradable) these products will keep for a while if looked after, keep them cool & the packet upright so the liquid cant escape I use a small cooler bag with a zip top to it some of gulps are now 5 years old & still quite usable!
  23. the 9 to 10 foot models will handle em all day long, the smaller models could break on the 5 to 6 kilo + fish.

    Retrieves

ok - dry flies those that float are cast to rising fish (trout)& usaully left for a minute or two in the area of the rising fish with out movement (in most cases) but if it is a muddler minnow this is slowly retieved with the figure 8 retrieve.wet flies those that sink - nyph pattern are again on moved with very slow erratic (fig 8 retrieve) retreives, minnow or streamer patterns are retrieved with a slow to moderate retrieve depending on what the fish are keen on that day. hope this info helps.
