We have the most hypocritical government and prime minister ever! This is about the worst thing ever this supertrawler, and it is totally hypocritical for the government to clear these marine parks for so-called protection for fish stocks, yet allow this supertrawler to plunder these fish stocks; this'll be the destruction of Australia's recreational and commerical fisheries. We need a government that listens to the people of Australia, not some dumb one that is pushed around by the Greens. We have a commercial fishery in place in Australia for US, for the Australian people!! We don't need a government to sell off even more of Australia for other countries!Don't get me wrong, I'm not against commercial fishing in general, but when it gets to such environmental destruction as this, and at the same time the government is closing out recreational fishers, like us, it maddens me totally!

"another blow for the reccy" maybe Chief BUTmore like another 200,000 votes to move the Labour dictators to the opposition benches. It won't be too hard on a lot of fishers and probably won't effect my family but they can only p155 people off so many times before they are gone and for a very long time.

Old thread I know but thought I'd add my $0.01 anyway. I've fished the lake for close to 30 years also not so regularly until around 3 years ago when I moved 5-10 minutes away and I too have never seen a King in there. I do often (2-3 times a week) stop and have a look at the entrance (Trimmer Pde). As I mentioned somewhere else, have recently seen quite a number of schoolies at at the entrance (and big bream that will only take bait!!! obviously no fun in that!!) Reason for my rant is that I've had residents and kids walk past and tell me that they're Kingfish. Anyone with a pair of polarised sunglasses can tell that these are in fact NOT Kingies. I wonder do these stories get around because some cannot correctly identify their fish. An older fellow down there one afternoon asked me If I could see the tommies following my soft plastics, I said 'no mate but I can see some bream right there'......

I have 2 Celilo Tournaments 2-4kg,they are very good and i use them all the time.Be wary buying a Celilo off the net tough because some of the models are chalk and cheese. If your spending around 100 bucks the dropshots are also pretty good cheers brenton

G'day alexcarn, Qu1. I use Gink (floatant) and I also use Rio Dry X fly drying shake to remove any moisture from my fly/s before i apply floatant.Qu2. Tippet is attached to the end of your tapered leader, Tippet length can vary from a couple of feet up to several metres depending on where your fishing and how pressured the fish are. For Dry fly in a open area I normally fish a (5ft floating poly leader we wont go there yet) 9ft tapered leader followed by about 6 ft of tippet. Don't go to long if your just starting out as the tippet and fly wont roll out for you and will end in big mess. I'd probably stick with using a 9ft to 12ft tapered leader with a couple of feet tippet at most, then start adding length as your casting improves Qu3. You can us very fine Fluorocarbon for dry fly presentations but I would stick to mono to start with it's cheaper and you can get away with not greasing it Hope this helps cheers1fish

Single hook by far in my opinion. Changed to them a couple of season back and can only recall dropping 2 fish now in the surf obviously due to bad hook setting. I prefer the owner style assist hooks with the kevlar loop as it's extremely difficult for them to shake it loose. Not the cheapest but catch rate makes up for that!

alexczarn reacted to brenton in losing baits
OK,I said there was a secret but there are a "couple" of things you can do to improve your picky metro whiting results. This method mainly applies to the scenario where you are in 10-20 metres and are losing baits or parts of the bait"usually" the black part of the cockle.First off don't use braid,it does help you to feel bites but imo it also allows picky fish to detect you.I also like to use a nibble tip rod for the same reason, the fish can have a couple of picks then slowly load up the rod without feeling resistance.I also like to use the lightest possible sinker "too light to actually anchor your bait in one position"this is because when you feel the slightest of picks you need to let out 1 metre or so of line to allow the rig to drift back with the current"the same way a loose bit of bait would if in a current"sometimes you might have to do this 4 or five times.I always use chemically sharpened hooks in size 6 and Daichi 2451 would be my favorite "they will increase you hookup rate by about 15% over old school hooks and last but certainly not least you should use berley,on most occasions i use fresh squashed pillies in a pot on the bottom although "up nth" crab scraps can be just as good. One thing that i'm pretty anal about is don't let the pot just sit on the bottom imo it has to be tied off perfectly so that the pot bounces on the bottom with the movement of the boat, during a session i might retie the pot half a dozen times. This is because when the pot bounces it lets out berley in waves which encourages the fish to compete "if the pot just sits on or off the bottom the berley just trickles out in a stream that can be picked off at the fishes leisure"it also sends out puffs of sand as it bounces, imo whiting can stimulated by visual cues....much like us ,which is also the reason i sometimes use a well beaten squid bait on the top hook if they are in that mood.I hope all that helps 4thelove "but just remember" you can't always believe everything you read on the net  cheers brenton
