So I picked up a Wilson Supergraph Big Water Bream Rod for an absolute bargain of a price. The only Downside is the Butt end is very short and isn't comfortable to put under the arm. So i will be having a crack and constructing my own Extended Rod butt section.

I took the rubber fighting cap off and used a set of verniers to measure the inside diameter of the blank. I then found an old broken rod blank that would slip into the blank and be tight enough to bond the two blanks together with resin.

I cut the old blank to go up the blank only to below the Reel seat so it doesn't effect rod action and weight. The piece of blank i used once fixed to inside the Supergraph Rod I will then Tape it all to make it even, add sand grit tape then add heat shrink over the blank to tidy up to make it look like it was ment to be apart of it. The final touch will be to add an EVA Foam grip on the bottom just to finish it off... In the end it should look something like this but neater.. (was a mock up i test fitted)

It's just a little project inbetween rod builds while i'm waiting for parts for my other rod builds. Keep an eye on this space.. Will Post updates as they come to hand.

Was painting up some more trout lures tonight and i stuffed the paint job on one of them. So instead of throwing it away i painted over it completely with black paint. Then decided to think outside the box...
Grabbed some pearl paint and well the photo speaks for itself. Well i think anyway 👌
So it is opaque black as the base. Pearl green top. With an pearl Magenta body and gold stripes...
I recko this will be one colour ill paint as one i will sell

I have just seen this post. Here are some of my experiences and current thinking.
These days I always use a clip.
I wont touch the Decoy round snaps or V snaps as I have lost too many good fish and lures due to them opening up. On some occasions quite possibly my fault as they are so bloody hard to snap into place properly.
These are the snaps I use these days. They are so easy & quick to use.
    1) Norman Lure Clips. Ever reliable
    2) Decoy Spiral Snaps ... which I have only just started using. Time will tell.
    - Mustad Fastach clip, Is an easy to use clip, but I have found with a vigorously worked floating stick baits the lure can work loose and off the clip.

So I don't tie direct to the lure. Repetitive tying will soon shorten your leader. These days my leader is fairly short. Around 18" to 24" as I am using ultra light rods with micro guides. Those guides are very knot intolerant and I am not good at tying the slimmest FG knot. So the knot does not enter the guides at all. The sensitive top end of a quality ultra light rod is a good shock absorber and you don't need to rely as much on the leader which can now be shorter.
Too much is made of the effect of the clip on the lure action. Poppers are potentially the most affected. A high rod position with an upward wrist action will get it popping right. A sensitive quality ultra light rods will allow you to impart a greater variety of actions to your lure.
This is visual fishing with surface lures. So change and adjust your rod position, wrist action & retrieve action to give you your desired movement. You always control and work the lure rather than the lure control you and you simply wind it back !
Apart from an ultra light rod with a well balanced reel, the other link in the chain is to use a very sensitive braid and leader. I find Sunline Siglon braid and Sunline Float deliver your rod and wrist action quickly and directly to your lure. Easier to impart your desired action.

Clips make lure fishing soooo easy. But you may have to consider the rest of your gear for them to be effective. Good luck.
    Cheers, Des

Cheers mate. While i enjoy it I'll keep pumping them out.
Biggest problem at the moment is most of my blanks come from China. And delivery times have extended out beyond a month. Im running out of lures to  paint....

The great thing about painting your own lures is you can create your own style and colours... Been messing around with a few different patterns and styles just perfecting my painting skills and styles...
This photo doesn't do justice on how good this actually looks. This is an semi transparent Rainbow trout pattern that i will be rolling with when selling a few lures. I'll be looking at transparent redfin pattern and brown trout pattern aswell for the dams and creeks in SA.

This pattern is for HB tragic he asked me to paint for awhile. Now that i finally have a cleat Im happy with and a paint scheme i was satisfied with. once its finished mate ill hit you up.

This one is an 120mm sinking stickbait in an transparent pearl blue, pink and silver top. This lure looks so dam porn in the flesh!
Hoping to give a couple to some guys chasing Tuna.

These last ones are just a couple small chubby lures i painted in random colours thinking they wouldn't swim well. But actually swam straight from the get go...
Ill use these for reddies in the winter

At present happy with the results I get with the Improved Albright (alias Alberto) for strength and glide through the guides. Certainly much better than the Surgeons knot (3 turn) I was using. I tie my braid/leaders at home and carry 2-3 spare spools (1 is straight through fluro) which helps as much as possible to negate tying on the run. Regards HBt.

A mate of mine was using his custom bream rod for the first time and it was performing like an absolute mule. Guide wraps and wind knots all over the place. At first he thought it would just take some getting used to. But after a couple of hours, he thought there was something seriously wrong with it.

One look at the micro guides and the double uni, was all it took to diagnose the problem. I tied him an FG and suddenly this worthless piece of crap was performing like a dream.

So with the new trend of Micro guides on light weight rods - FG's really get to show why they are worth the effort.

I've blamed reels- rods - braid and poor casting technique for alot of my wind knots and guide wraps in the past - turns out it was just the leader knots I was using.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I occasionally fish with a boat load of baitos - so when we chase pinkies on lures - I  supply all the outfits - rig all their lures and retie all the snags and wind knots they get.

Baby sitting full grown men and attending to their every need is not something I'm used to or enjoy😉

When you have novices using gear they arent used to, in a crowded boat - problems like windknots are much more likely to happen.

I remember being lazy and just retying one of their terminal windknots with a double uni, so I could get back to fishing. The time I saved tying that knot wasnt worth it - every second cast something would go wrong. - It got to the point where I swapped rods - then I started having problems.

So I cut and retied with an FG and suddenly the world is good again.

I could go on......😉 but long story short - FG's might take a while to master - but that time and effort in the lounge room - will save you time and frustration out on the water. (especially when using rods with small guides)

FG knot for me using the Knott Assist 2.0 if I’m doing it at home
if I break a leader while wading (like last trip that cost me my favourite lure you can not buy any more) then I revert to the double uni
prefer the FG how it is smooth and does not catch on guides but too lazy to tie while out fishing

The first go was not as good as I made some spacers that didn't allow enough airflow into the back of the fan. But my good mate solved that when he jammed the lid down and broke the fan. So then I could use the old fan housing as a spacer and put some holes into it to allow better flow. The fan is just a simple Jaycar one with the most CFM you can buy. 12 volt I just clip it onto the batteries powering the fridge, the only draw 300 milli amps from memory. Even at 40 deg I can put 8 litres of water in there in the afternoon/night after fishing and the whole lot is frozen solid by morning.
This was really important when catching heaps of fish to cool them down quick for freezing and having ice for the next day. Keeps the quality of the fish when frozen quickly.
