  1. Peaceful creatures of the sea.

Glad it was close to your boat and you were quick enough to take a photo :)

He came up and stuck his head out of the water first. Initially I just thought, just a turtle. Then remembered I ain't in Darwin anymore! And this bugger is twice the size of any others I'd seen. That is when I went for the phone. He came back and circled underneath the boat for a while so I got those pics.

  2. Softys right.. but he means Cuttlefish ;)  though we used to get a few random squiddies around seal corner and the ledge.

there is mud cockles,  and then big pippies over on almonta/gunyah beach.

Go to bait for me living at Kellidie bay was always small pieces of Tommy Ruff.

over the years  of growing up down there.. we did find some nippers in the sand bars on occasion. but we never really hunted for them.

My families still got a shack at Kellidie bay...

    Love that place.

Don't worry, I eat the cockles. Got plenty of tommies and STs for bait. I just want to try some nippers. I'll go on a bit of a search for a month and let you know.

  3. I have done plenty of fishing around there and TBH if you want nippers for bait it is not really needed.. We used to be based at Kellede Bay and there was plenty of squid and other bait fish around to catch LB to get some bait to catch the tasty ones!

Its too late. Bought myself a bait pump prior to asking this question :P . Squid have been fairly scarce in the bays of late. Few off Farm Beach but couldn't be bothered launching on the weed that is there at the moment. As i am having a break from work for a while and living locally I have a lot of time on my hands so might chuck the pump in the boat and hit some of the sand banks around Coffins. First spot I'll try is along Long Beach. Just trying to gauge my chances of success and find somewhere where they are definitely at.

  4. I use the Inox as well but the light blue can, it's called Inox Lanox.

This one does not do any damage to rubber seals. I found out this the hard way as I used to spray it liberally over my enduro bikes after washing them (I even used it as a chain lube), but one day I had some major engine problems with water getting into the engine and doing some damage. First thing the mechanic asked me at Kessner KTM was "Have I been using Inox on the engine?". Yes was the obvious answer, and it was then explained they have lots of rubber seals on customers bikes deteriorate because of the use of the standard blue Inox. Inox Lanox was fine though. So be careful as you don't want your outboard seals going or anything else you spray it on.

That is what I'm thinking as well. Whilst Inox has lube it also has solvents to strip away old stuff. I'm hoping, and it feels like it, that the tackleguard stuff has more lube. Time will tell I suppose.

On the bike chain I use Tac-8 I think. It is a dry sticky grease. Just stops the chain from rusting. I run O-ring or X-ring chains so no way you can lube those anyway as the grease is applied at manufacture and kept in place by the rings - unless you dry them out of course.

  5. Seems there's a 'new' spray for a different application every time i check out the hardware/auto store.

I'm a bit of a cynic  .....i recon most are the same stuff with a different label and price, depending on the target market!

I mostly  use Inox MX3. WD40 is handy, def not as a lube, as a surface spray. Great on the external metal parts of rifles.

Agree. Inox has always done good stuff and I've used it. I'll grab some of the MX3 tomorrow to try and compare.

  6. No this isn't about cricket, martial arts or condoms.

I've been using this stuff for 4 or so months after rinsing reels off. They get a hammering in the centre console with spray (so do I). No seized line rollers or handles which is normally the bane of my existence. Still on this little can. It is probably expensive for what it is. Anyone else using it?

    Sorry, sideways.

  7. Instead of paravanes, leaded lines or bibbed lures I use either a heavy chrome slice or a jig (300 - 500 grams) without the hooks in front of a small lure in deeper water.

The jig acts like a decoy pulling in the fish.

  8. Used to catch them for live bait off outer harbour wharf years ago. Used a big crab net or home made square net with fine mesh. Lower it down so it was about 6 inches deep or so. Then lower a light (kero tilly latern for me) so it was just above the net. They would swim over the top and we would pull the net up to get them. On a single hook and straight to the bottom then reeled up about a metre off the bottom. It was the only way to get the resident mulloway living under the wharf interested. Used to get a few tommies, squid, gar and crabs as well. Always used surf rods as well with the butt held by a loop of rope through the planks to get the pilly as far away from the piles as possible to have a chance of landing them.
