Highfly got a reaction from smokeykebab in Silver Drummer
Theres heaps of em near the semi reefWe got them up around the 3kg mark they where like footballsThe ones we used to fish for where reluctant to take anything above 3 kg lineMaximum hook size we used was a number 2No weight no nothing just a hookWe would burley them into a frenzy with mulched up pilly and when they where actively feeding we would lower a small pilly fillet amongst them. 3 kg fish on 3 kg line used to take an honest 10 minutes to land.We lost more to the ledges below than we landed but we landed enough to make it worthwhile.Despite what you hear they taste great too

Highfly got a reaction from wishing2Bfishing in Tuna Skirts
On our first tuna adventure we where told all sorts of things about this has to be better than that. This was the only skirt that worked etc etc etc You know the story Any way we bought the bees knees skirts and the bee knees divers. With the flash skirts and the divers out there the tuna hit a fly which was pretty much some pink material on a hook. Bugger all bubble trail nothing, just some pink cloth on a hook. It nailed our best fish. If you find the tuna most of the time I reckon they'll nail anything GL

Highfly got a reaction from Dan C in LICE AT ST KILDA
Generally More moon less lice, less moon more lice. They are sand critters so fishing paternoster and getting the bait off the bottom helps a lot.

Highfly got a reaction from afishyfish in Snapper for bait.
I've used a bream almost 38 cm for bait and nailed a 50lb mullie. Lotta little snaps around one of my mullie spots too cant see why it would'nt work

Highfly got a reaction from afishyfish in Mulloway Rigs
Personally I dont like circle hooks,I prefer suicide style hooks, always use two hooks for mulloway, massive difference in hook up rate. Agree with Surf generally larger fish tend to hook themselves, simply engage the reel and wait for the rod to double over, usually mullies hit the turbo button at this stage. How soon you strike would depend on hook and bait size, half a pilly on a 4/0 you could strike asap,Legal bream with two 10/0s in it may wanna give it some extra time.

Highfly got a reaction from Ranger in 2011 Bloodworm Run
Went out last night got shiploadsThey started about 8.30 kept going right thru to about 11.00 when we pulled the pin, had enough. They where still runnin hot at 11.00 when we where well and trully plucked. Was telling my decky they only run for two or so hours but they just kept runnin. Even when we left we where still getting bunches of 6 and 7 s to a scoop. Last year it was like rundle mall out there last night only two other boats. With the strong westerly last night I reckon truckloads would have washed up on largs and semi beaches.Looks like a good run, anyone interested might wanna head out tonight cause there on big time.gl

Highfly got a reaction from Chief in Fish Catchers vs Fish Eaters
I take great pride and pleasure in securing my legally allowed quota for the table. Its nice to look upon your success at the end of the day. I love cleaning them and preparing them properly for the table. Its great to have friends over and feeding them the fruits of your efforts. Its great to roll up and lay some fish on friends and family. I get the same amount of pride and pleasure releasing a trophy trout and some other species to be caught again and for the purposes of sustainability. Its great to see the fish returned to its home unharmed.I just love to fish

Highfly got a reaction from Resolute in Are The trawlers working at this time of the year?
Howdy guys,Coxswain ticket gives you 15nm, but you can get a coastal nav endorsement allowing you a further 15nm. 30 nm all up all on a coxswain ticket. Also I'll think you'll find any u/size fish you see in the stores are probably from interstate.

Highfly got a reaction from Piranha in what fly to use?
In answer to your question damsel flies are dragon fly imitations. A living damsel fly has lead eyes and u may be able to cast it with spinning gear. GL

Highfly got a reaction from afishyfish in What do you pay for ?
Opinions change from year to year based on your knowledge so I dunno.... but at the moment,If I take someone fishn on my boat I try to show them a great day out and a great day fishn. I hope they enjoy the experience and are grateful for a great day out. If someone wants a mark usually all they have to do is ask, then you know if its on offer. If you dont ask but try later to locate it I think you know its not right.

Highfly got a reaction from afishyfish in What do you pay for ?
When you go on a charter what do you pay for ?Is it the days fishing?, is it the knowledge? where do you draw the line.Obviously you may see new techniques for fishing, rigs, anchoring, times, tides. boat handling etc etc etc.But what about locations ?Should your operator take you to a location close enough in that you may be able to locate it again is it within your right to locate it ?Is it within your right to ask on these forums giving approximate directions in hope someone else will put you on it ?
