  1. Smashing them yet again Alex, well done mate.
  2. Had a quick sesh on saturday morning. 2 bream, 2 puffers....wacko! Water was very stirred up, struggled with SPs, only had bloodworms as bait, soaked in tuna oil. Tuesday should be better, hitting up WL. Might take some pillies as well though.
  3. Leave them alone....Do not disturb. I know I wouldn't want somebody bothering me in the middle of a root.
  4. Very nice fish mate, well done. Quite an attractive piece of real estate you guys are fishing in. Now you have popped the cherry, the next one should be easier.....hopefully.
  5. Awesome mate, well done. Never caught a fish on fly yet, but I remember my first fish caught on lure, and it was a real turning point in my fishing. You guys are really getting me tempted to get into to fly fishing. Keep up the good work Kuerschie.
  6. I wouldn't be surprised if Alex wins this. His form of late has been nothing short of remarkable. Having said that, if I can beat my 42cm PB this season, I might just have a crack myself. Need a new S&H cap, mines getting dirty...lol
  7. Good luck mate, reckon you could possibly add an ST to the list. Will a mully go for a fly? I know the mud mullies will go a bread imitation. Enjoy the challenge.
  8. Couple of mid 40s carp this arvo after work. Taken a liking to worms dug up in my mates backyard, outfishing tackle shop tigers 5-1. Few yabbies in the nets too, and baby carp, caught on chicken flavoured dried dog food. Gonna freeze the baby carp, then chuck them in WL this summer as mully lollies. Already eaten the yabbies.....
  9. Got into a few average size bream this morning in the Port. Very difficult conditions, and impossible to detect bites. Kept at it for a couple of hours, til I got itchy eyes from all the dust.

    New Combo

My favourite 2-4kg combo at the moment is a Shimano Catana Nano 8ft rod matched up with a Quantum Smoke PT25 spooled with Fins XS 8lb. Caught everything on it, from bream and salmon up to 5+kg carp, it really loads up nicely with a big fish, yet is still unbelievably light and will cast a mile even with small 5g hardbodies. The Quantum reels have one of the smoothest drags I have ever used, never miss a beat, and look awesome. Might be slightly over-budget though......rod-$100,....reel-$180.....not to forget the braid which will be another $50. Food for thought.
  11. Fished the Murray near Cobdogla today for a couple of hours. All baitfishing, mostly a mix of tigers and earthworms. 8 callop, 4 carp and 3 silver perch, there were also some shrimp turning up in the pots which helped nail the 2 biggest callop at 52cm and 47cm. Will have more time next weekend, planning an overnighter with my swag, hoping to get a decent 24hr fishing sesh and a cricket score catch. Really impressed with the way natives are outnumbering carp in the river lately, both the silvers and the goldens all looked in prime condition, and I even let my old man keep 3 callop for a feed
  12. Absolutely bring them to SA. Build them at Mawson Lakes, Wynn Vale Dam, Garden Island, West Lakes and maybe Outer Harbour. Just another reason we need RFLs in this state to fund this type of fishing infrastructure. I've seen a guy in a wheelchair fishing Largs Jetty many moons ago, said he preferred Largs coz it's shorter. We definitely need to make it easier for disabled folks to fish, close to car parks too.
  13. For bream fishing I like 4 or 6lb braid for easy casting distance, and 8 or 10lb flouro leader for abrasion resistance. I find that a 10lb leader lets go before 4lb braid, however for finicky fish you might need to drop to a 4 or 6lb leader, especially using soft plastics. I always carry a few different line weight leaders, heavy for salmon, and light for bream which are the 2 species I mainly target in the salt.
  14. Nice work mate, solid fish. Bream were hard to get yesterday, only managed a few all day, but was fishing new territory so it was more about learning. Biggest went 38cm, which put a huge smile on my face. Caught on a whole live bloodworm, sucked it in like a lollipop. Eager to get back into them next weekend.
  15. Best way to preserve is definitely metho them when live. They usually pop their heads out and tense up when dipped, then stay firm when frozen. If you don't preserve them before feezing they just turn to mush.

  17. Well done mate, that's a horse! And brownie points for the release. That fish was almost 30 years old, and was probably a big randy male keeping the girls satisfied. Love your other vids too.
  18. Problem for the fishos is we don't pay anything to fish there. Residents of WL pay rates, and councils have always been driven by dollars. Those ratepayers have a right to vote in council elections, fishos don't. All because of a few selfish mongrels who gave us decent fishos a bad rep.
  19. Stunning fish and well played by Weaver. Really enjoyed this clip, cheers Chuck. Stayed green for a while and refused to give up easily. Would be interested to know what gear he is using and if it is one of his own lures. Great stuff!
  20. I got my head stuck in a pelicans beak when I was a little kid. Seriously, just ask my mum. Was feeding them bread at Mannum, and must have been too slow coz next thing I knew it was trying to eat me. Recently at West Lakes I had one almost eating fish straight out of my hand, not to mention giving me the heebee jeebees. Cormorants have been a problem for me when they latch on to a fish I am fighting and refuse to let go. As for tangling fish, I have only ever got caught up on a duck, which was fairly easy to untangle except for the agro biting. Except for the pelican incident as a kid, I
  21. I hope this has nothing to do with rubbish being left behind by fishos. Haven't been fishing WL for very long, but have already had to clean up after a few ferals, and it really 5hit5 me. Certain mulloway fishos on this site won't be happy if night curfews are introduced either.
  22. Reckon that looks as appetizing as deep fried sheep balls would be. If folks are gonna eat stuff like that, all I can say is I hope they really enjoy it. Coz I know I won't....
  23. Few days after the new moon. Depending on tides, I'd be guessing at 3rd night after.
