  1. Another tip. If you ever have live bloodworms, mix your SP worms in them and coat them in the slime. Keep fresh in resealable sandwich bags. Works better than SFactor...
  2. Fins XS, Hyper and in the skinny stuff I have a couple of reels with Power Pro. I tried some Rovex braid in 30lb for a cod rod, wasn't bad, but it was so thick you could knit your Nanna a jumper with it. For 20lb like you want, I'd be using the Hyper.
  3. Ale is dead right. In one night you can get enough to last you a year. Only done it in a boat, but heard of folks getting plenty off the rocks at OH when the wind is right. Will be trying LB this year,
  4. Southie that could hang on my wall mate, work of art. And Send-it's reminds me of fishing up the river for some reason.... Great pics.
  5. Give you a tip mate. Dip them in metho when alive then put them in small containers and freeze straight away. When you use them keep them in the shade and as cool as possible. This method gives you firm and reliable worms for fussy bream, and they don't mind the metho one bit. I tried salting them live, but they squirt the blood out, and end up mushy after being frozen. Usually dig for them at low tides below .20m, and when used live, are one of the best baits out. However during the bloodworm run, using them as bait will be useless, coz most of the fish that eat them will be fat and ful
  6. Helping a mate move Saturday. Probably go for some carp and some quiet beers in the fresh on Sunday, lousy tides. Monday morning hitting up the Port early morning targeting bream, might head to Outer Harbour in the arvo to round out the day. Weather looks okay for the long weekend.
  7. Consider it done, really like Fishing SA. 3 reasons.... Freshwater Scene River Country Adelaide Metro North. And they usually always have an article or two thrown in that relates to the fishing I do. Great mag, worth the vote.
  8. Creek redfin got my attention. Will check it out. Cheers for the heads up mate.
  9. My most memorable catch would be my first Murray Cod. I was 18 and fishing with some mates at Blanchetown, doing an overnighter, which was ironic as after a few drinks everyone started crashing out in their cars or tents by about midnight. By about 2am I was getting sleepy, but I was still catching carp on worms and callop on shrimp, as well as heaps of yabbies from the nets in a nearby backwater. I decided to pin a small yabby through the tail and cast it out, then sat down to enjoy my last beer. Next thing I know, the rod was bending over slowly, then suddenly going ape5hit in the rod ho
  10. Horse bream mate, very well done. Would have put a good fight. Really like to hear of the C & R too.
  11. If an RFL could fund more fisheries officers to patrol inland waterways, if it could fund native restocking, and if by applying for an RFL, an educational bias could be included as necessary to obtain the licence, then I think it would be great. If it creates the fishing opportunities that it does in NSW & Victoria, then I think it could be one of the best things to happen to freshwater fishing in this state.
  12. BREAM! Get motor oil, watermelon red, or pumpkin. Use TT jigheads coz they hold on to them better. Go as light as you possibly can, I use as light as 1/60oz up to 1/16oz when I need to cast in difficult conditions. Spot of S-Factor never hurts either.
  13. Awesome report mate. Nice pics. Can be frustrating when you catch plenty of fish, but they are all on the small side. I often keep persisting hoping and knowing there are a few bigger bream cruising in amongst the younger fish, they are just that bit wiser and older, therefore harder to tempt. Though got to admit Z-Mans make it seem easy at times, I can't speak more highly of them. And they last longer than other SPs. Hope you get into some bruisers on your next sesh.
  14. That's gotta be the biggest damn kingy I have ever seen. You could almost chuck a saddle on it and ride off into the sunset. Great pics Cal, cheers for posting them.
  15. Fritz and cheese on carp, have also caught a cod on cheese, and cheese also attracts shrimp. Dried dog food in yabby nets, gets yabbies and baby carp, which when frozen a mate has then used successfully as mully lollies. Soap in shrimp pots, unscented Velvet brand works best and doesn't go mushy after being in the water a long time. And I have heard stories of the old days on the Murray when folks would make cod lures out of rubber thongs. Haven't tried it myself but.....
  16. I have heard rumours of Cod and Callop being "introduced" many years ago. However I have never heard of any being caught in there, and if they were, it was kept very hushed up. Unfortunately there are only the two feral species of fish to keep you entertained in the Warren. If you are after natives, I recommend joining SAFWAA.
  17. I still recommend getting from a tackle shop, especially one with a spool winder to get the braid on tight. Have a mate that bought imitation Power Pro Bite Motion off fleabay, and compared to the genuine stuff, gets a fair few tangles and birdsnests. It just doesn't cast the same or feel right. At least if you buy it from a tackle shop, you can go back and whinge if it lets you down. And at least you know that by supporting your local bait and tackle store, they will be there for the future. Just my two cents.......
  18. Couple of real solid looking Catties there mate, nicely done. Two more of SAFWAAs finest putting in an appearance, and much fleshier and healthy looking than the half dozen I caught up River recently. The Murray Catties were nowhere near as well conditioned as your two pussycats. Congrats on a new well earned PB.
  19. Nice fish mate, love the colours on that red fish. There are some very nice bream in the NH marina where you launched. Like the snapper, you just have to be in the right place at the right time.
  20. Another top notch report Alex. Bust offs are an unfortunate part of fishing. Rest assured that big bream will get caught eventually, hopefully by you or your mates. Or hopefully by me...LOL
  21. Great work Alex. Are those Strikehook caps as lucky as everyone is saying? Might have to get one and retire my dirty stinky Rapala hat...LOL
  22. Nice work mate, and don't worry, you will nail that 40+ bream eventually.
  23.   These Cranka Crabs might catch fish, but jeez they are buggers to use.Every time I tried casting one, the leader got tangled up in the hooks in the claws.Gave it back to my mate, chucked a hypothetical brown-eye, then tied on my trusty Z-Man SP.Ended up with more fish than him, and I won't be out of pocket $20+ if I lose a Cranka Crab.Might be easier to use dropped over the side of a boat though, we were fishing land-based, and distance to the structure was critical, very frustrating getting fouled up every cast.Jury is still out.
  24. Times 2.Very rarely a fish won't swim for me, then I offer it out.Catch and release is my favourite part of fishing, I get a buzz watching them swim away.Especially bream, flatties, and freshwater natives.
