g'day gdk I've got a couple of the old spinfishers 750ss and 850ss the American reels were made with stainless and machined brass pinion and main cog, very good quality. the firm was bought by Jarvis walker and the cogs are now made from die cast, cheep and nasty and not so durable. The old reels are durable and I have been submersing mine in salt water for years while out lure tossing (still have to clean and re grease them after each use in salt). I had to buy the last one on the internet it was second hand but like new still going strong.

Yeah I've got a sunbeam great thing for meat, fish and bait. plastic is expensive but you can reuse bags after for the bait etc. they reckon you can get 2 years for fish in the freezer. great

Yeah, I keep any new spots to myself now, even if you get them to swear secrecy, they get lazy and only fish the spots you show them and they don't ever seem give any new spots your way. I have lost count of how many times I have gone to my usual spots only to find one of my mates (Usually with different people every time) sitting near or sometimes right on the mark! I've put a lot of fishing time in to find productive grounds and I reckon people should understand by abiding by rules of the skipper. Not anymore though.

Hi Gaffer The whole thing about cockle footprint was tongue in cheek.I was really having a go at to new rules, it seems like the fisheries take a knee jerk reaction and put in smaller bag limits as a "precautionary" measure, and I wonder if the cockles are under threat or they are just pandering to a growing food industry in an attempt to make more money somehow? Who's interest is it in to close rec cockling on the south side of the mouth? What was the total recreational catch of cockles in the previous year to the ban on the south side of the mouth? Hi I was thinking with the introduction of smaller bag limits for cockles planned in the future. How is this going to effect effort, energy and carbon outputs? The way I see it it will take twice as much carbon to obtain the same amount of bait eg 600 to 300 or one trip from where ever the cockler comes from, to two trips. So my rational is not only will it cost more from the petrol pump but what environmental cost will that humble little cockle have?

I'd like to be able to help Carps but I haven't really tried yet. It does make me think you've answered part of your question yourself though. The sharks seem to come in at night as they are scavengers I reckon, also there are a lot of captures over the years by ballooning off jetty's so I'm thinking they're not far out, plus we've seen one returning to sea at sun up (few hundred metres out)Big baits big fish?good luck Bill

Here is an idea of mine To help sort and preserve crabs. The reason I came up with this is seeing so many people putting every crab in the tub and sorting later (usually the crabs die after being exposed to the sun and fighting) and having the tub blow over and losing most of the catch. 1/ All you do is get two broccoli boxes with lids 2/ join them together side by side long ways 3/ hinge one lid on the out side and put a simple catch on closing side 'inside'(a bit of velcro or elastic would do) 4/ leave the other side open 5/ attach a tow strap completely around the whole

hi rod star I run a 750ss and a 850ss on a snyder ft4120 with 60 lb braid and it works well and has accounted for many mulloway and sharks (and some massive rafts of weed), some of the time the reels have been completely submerged in saltwater while lure fishing. The thing is if you do go lure tossing in the water make sure it is the older model spinfisher because when jarvis walker took over the company they cheapened the reel by putting die cast cogs inside (these cogs will corrode big time in salt), the older reels have machined brass pinion gears and stand up to harsher treatment.
