Zorgs got a reaction from bjorn2fish in What's ya favourite salmon lure ???
Tried the squidgy 70mm pro flick bait Slimey (greenish coloured one) the other day for ST and worked well. Tried a chrome twisty and piece of pilchard but all my catches were on the squidgy....and I'm normally skeptical about the SP thing lol.
Used a size 4 hook with a small bit of weight in it. Ok to cast out in calm to mild conditions but not much in terms of distance which isn't a big deal I guess for ST but can be testing at times.

Zorgs reacted to Raider in Alan Hawke Review on the Fin Nor Lethal 100
An interesting read here...............Alan Hawke has reviewed the Fin Nor Lethal 100 a $150 reel and rated it among the best on the market, he has even rated it better than the new Saragosa. It might be worth a look for anyone looking at a budget offshore reel.

Zorgs reacted to Luke5600 in Eagle ray recipes ?
Heres a link to a thread I posted in a while ago about how to cook eagles
http://www.strikehook.com/index.php/topic/21673-eating-eagleblack-rays/?p=242295
just down from that post I think I had some information about preparing the meat as well
the bad review which some people seem to give to rays is nonsense in my opinion cooking a ray is just as easy as cooking any fish (Actually its even easier when you take into consideration you don't have to gut it or remove any bones)
Soak it in milk for an hour before cooking to remove any ammonia taste although I haven't found much difference between soaking it and not soaking.
You can cook it in basicly anything, When I first tried to cook an eagle ray all i did was cut a bit of meat off the flap and simmered it in a pot of water with a bit of lemon pepper in it, came out tasting beautiful.
You can crumb it, flour it, stew it, bake it, fry it, boil it the possibilities are endless.
If you're going to fry it I'd avoid the meat from the tip of the wing as it tends to get tougher the further away from the spine you get, if you're making it into a curry or stew it won't make a difference though
It also freezes down extremely well, When I first made curried eagle ray I had some excess curry left over so I froze it down, forgot about it 6 months later found it in the freezer again brought it out microwaved it and it tasted just as good as the day I first did it
Next time I catch an eagle I'd be happy to make a video or something similar of a recipe and how to clean one down quickly and efficiently if you're interested, just gotta get some good weather on my days off from work

Zorgs reacted to Ale in game fishing in the past
Not the type to randomly post links, but this one sure gives an insight to times of the past and could help explain why some things are now as they are. The squid pix,are just plainly bizzarre:

Zorgs reacted to Poppa Snake in razors
When I was lad before limits, at low tide out the front of our shack @ Pt Augusta Dad & I would pick a heap and take to mum on the beach to shell then we would go back out for a fish. By the time we arrived back for tea they were ready - raw with a variety of sauces. Any left mum would pickle for us to annoy work mates the next week while they ate vegemite sangas.
My vote is raw as you can lose the taste when pickled.

Zorgs reacted to bobrow in razors
Cleaned on the boat, rinsed in seawater and eaten. In my opinion any thing else spoils them. However, for a variation, dip in some some soy sauce or a soy based dipping sauce with ginger, garlic, spring onion and some sesame oil, or another variation is Japanese soy sauce and some wasabi paste.
Raw is the best way to eat razors, and by far the most tender.
Whiting is also sensational straight from the water, sliced paper thin and dipped in any of the above sauces.

Am I the only weird one for eating them raw, just washed out in sea water?

Zorgs reacted to Alexsfishin1 in No need for a boat when land based fishing is like this!
Haha true Booma, I edited it before hand because we didn't want everyone fishing it out, but after 10 people asked me, I decided to spew it
cheers Zorgs, lots of burley and you should get the gar to you Around the first marker on the beach side works well on the rocks.

Zorgs reacted to Alexsfishin1 in No need for a boat when land based fishing is like this!
Headed to the yacht squadron yesterday with James and his mate. At the start, we didn't see a single fish besides some bream at the bottom. We sighted a few bluies and I snagged them on my lure. Later on, the garfish started to move in and we kept the burley going. This finally attracted some bigger ones, we used unweighted gents and got one cast after cast!!! They were on fire, it was so hectic I couldn't film most of it...
After about 2 hrs, they started to slow down and we ran out of gents. We used bread and got a few, James let his bread sink to the bottom and got some BIG bites! Finally something took his bait and ZZZZzzzzzzzz! He was onto something bigger! He pulled it up and it was a decent bream at 34cm! We started fishing for salmon trout afterwards with pilly cubes and caught many undersized ones... We caught a legal one amongst 3 undersized ones. The fights were great fun still
We moved on to target bream and burleied up lots with bread, we chucked our bread baits in and straight away we got some big bream bites. All of a sudden James' rod bends heaps and he strikes! It pilled out heaps of drag and then snapped... Seconds later, my rod did the same and it was the best bream fight of my life! Every second of the fight it was pulling out drag! James saw it when it went under some structure and you should've seen his face! IT WAS A MONSTER! It snagged me under some structure at the bottom and snapped me off.... James' said it was deffinately over 40cm and the fight was mad for me! I was silent for most of the time after I lost that bream.
On the good side we caught a nice bag with 80 gar, 7 st, 1 decent bream and 2 bluies. All land based out of the 3 of us!

Zorgs reacted to Ale in Shark / Ray Fishing Adelaide
Always keen to see Shark/game threads on here guys, I’m sure it interests alot of readers, just you boys like to keep it all pretty quiet. Understandable considering the regs and rules in play these days.Hopefully can add to this thread after the weekend, Pauly took lots of effort to help guide this Googan in the right direction, let’s see if I can get me some teeth.Big boat= checkSharky waters= checkRight tackle = check ( as long as I don’t hook 12-15ftrs)Skill levels of angler = ........ time will tellFind it interesting the term "wog" seems to be so accepted by most these days.Growing up in a mainly anglo area as a kid, being called a wog was quite offensive, back when squid was only used as bait, and olives and salami was left of everything including pizzas.I remember being picked on and teased due to my lunchbox contents, these days the stuff mum used to pack is served up as antipasto’s and entrées at restaurants

@khombi - Land them and release them, they seem to be quite an inquisitive 'fish', seems wrong to kill one but that's just me.

According to the write up, 'has enough butt power' too. Obviously good from both ends.....

Zorgs reacted to Rybak in Crab Bait ????
I make my own crab bait holders & use carp generally but sometimes squid pieces & any other off cuts of fish. Try using the home brand sardine tins with holes just pierced into the pull off lid. This works really well & cheap. I can put at least two of the tins in the holder plus whatever else you want. Virtually crab damage proof.Photos of crab bait holders below:

Zorgs reacted to codez in Soft Plastics guide for variety of species
Yeah dude I've caught YFW and bream on those Gulp Sandworms in Camo but I cut them down to about 3 inches in length to avoid tail biters, this way you get 3 lures out of 1 too and they probably work out cheaper than live tubies or similar worms
