Casting, I've had just as much success on Zman Grubs as I have the nice hard bodies. But trolling, IMO, you want something you can work slowly. The metals are good when they are on, but you'll snag plenty if you're fishing shallow and trolling slowly, not to mention lack of action on many.
Shallow divers often run pretty straight, as long as they are half decent. Get something from Atomic or rapala, storm, even halco tbh. The little scorpions are meant to dive to 1.2m and run well behind a boat. A 60mm version would do well.

I love the Tassie crays. Australia has a ridiculous freshwater crayfish diversity, and the king of them all would have to be the Giant Tasmanian IMO.
@Del care to mention or PM me any of the hills rivers/creeks you've seen platypus? I've not seen one in my travels thus far, would love to.

Well a bit late now ...but i would have said a piece of steel wool and engine oil for any light rust. Used this on knives and rifles before re-bluing.
Damn AR1, those stratches youve put in the blade make me grimace, Suggest polishing it out with lighter paper and then graded wet & dry?
I like knives . Got an old bait knife that ive had since a kid. Its pitted and ugly looking but its 'Toledo Steel' and is awesome!
Haha yeah, she was more than a touch rough when I had just got the sanding done. I've touched it up with a couple of grades of file/steel since, and will probably take the wet rub to it at some stage. Luckily this knife just floats around the house for odd jobs (in this case, cutting arum Lillie's) and isn't overly dedicated to show and tell.

Cheers fellas.
I attacked it with the sand paper and got the rust off, not too many worries. There are a few marks in the finish on the back of the blade but otherwise fine
I heated the blade up and oiled it lightly. Looks a lot better and I gather it isn't any worse off for now.
Note the weird marks in the finish. They won't sand off, weirdly enough.

How do you intend on fishing them Micky?

Lot's of gar around last I was there. The odd whiting off the jetty from sand patches as well.

Are you in a boat or land based?. Plenty of live bait from a boat.Get well Poppa.
Back to the subject, nice fat winter gar pretty consistent on Semi Reef. Mulloway have also been playing ball in the Port but bloody cold. No photos to show but don't bother anymore as have plenty over the years. (S&H beanie & neck warmer works a treat). Take this as you will, but if your not out there, then more for me :P
God you can be a cock tease sometimes Rybak. I couldnt even get a livebait in the port last week!
Not teasing at all........just facts.
Landbased mate, imagine it'd be different on the water. I'm just stirring, hence the

Had a flick in the Port last weekend for a few small bream and the one whiting. Then hit up waitpinga and Parson's yesterday for the 1 ST. Saw 1 good salmon landed on bait at parson's, but the 6+ other people I spoke to had not had a sniff.
Slow going couple of weeks.

What are your odds in the port land-based Rybak?
I've got a solid bit of time off this winter, so would be keen to investigate

Good to take note of the mulloway and such sitting around and what stage of the tide it was. A different tide stage and they may come on the chew around the mullet congregations.
As for the other things.... Well. Ideally wouldnt want to foul hook one of those

Personally dont chasr those much, but I only tie finesse lures and plastics.
Speed clips in the 00 size from Damiki are what i use for lures otherwise. They Dont tend to impact the actoon of anything 45mm +

Lucky bugger I'm hanging to hit some of the new trails at Fox CreekNot me. Solid mountain bike ride tomorrow will clear out the week's troubles. Muddy and slippery trails to keep things honest too.
Tides a bit dodgey but better Sunday too.
Might take the boys for a quick fang around the bottom of Cobblers tomorrow arvo if I can get the laundry Reno finished
Where'd you go today bet it was fun
Love muddy trails
New trails at Fox? Only hit there once a couple months ago, when one of our lads crashed and dislocated his clavicle. Would be good to get back.
Didn't realise half the lads were riding the Craigburn Enduro so no ride. Contemplated a solo Cleland-Eagle loop...decided to join my roadie crew Sunday instead...the Mtb is waaay more fun & liberating vs the roadie.
Finished things of with a few bunnies last night.
At this price i figure i've $80 sitting in the fridge!
Jesus where's me air rifle?!

Got out today and just spooked heaps of fish. Water is too damn low and clear for this time of year.
-
Got out very briefly today and proceeded to hook and lose a small rainbow in a creek.
Otherwise I should get out for a more serious fish tomorrow

I only use the bleeding ayu colour, partly because I like it, mainly because while I have one, there is no way I am forking out for more! Haha
