Great topics lads :)Awesome to see everyone being civil and no one attacking each other in 6 pages on a sensitive topic.Hopefully our fishery will be managed as best as it can be so we can continue to enjoy our sport and gather a feed for years to come

I`m definitely not missing the point, I said I have seen numbers of juvi snapps increasing for the last 5 years & I don`t believe the fishery is in danger. Five years ago, yes, but not now.@ jackblack86, not necessarily. This is how it used to work when I was commercial. Fish auctions were held every weekday morning & when you had fish to sell you could take `em direct to fishmongers & sell for cash at a fixed (usually lower price). If you wanted to have them auctioned & hopefully get a higher price you deposited your fish in the Safcol cold room the night before by a certain time in order for them to be auctioned the following day. If a semi full of snapps (tonnes) arrived after you deposited your fish, well, by laws of supply & demand you got less, sometimes you got robbed blind. Buyers will not bid when there is a glut of a particular species on the auction room floor. SO FISHERMEN HAVE NO CONTROL OVER WHAT THEY GET PAID ON THE DAY, AND THEY PAY A FIXED AUCTIONEERS FEE OF 11%(That`s what it used to be when I finished anyway), NO MATTER WHAT PRICE YOU GOT FOR YOUR FISH. There is no way to know when you drop off your fish how many other fish will turn up. Sometimes if the cold room was full when I got there & I thought the price would be down I`d take `em home again & sell the next day for cash. NO - ONE WANTS TO SEE `EM SOLD AT PET FOOD PRICES, BUT ONCE AGAIN THE BLOKE IN THE MIDDLE HAS ALL THE CONTROL, NOT THE FISHERMAN. Cheers all.

Nice looking timberies daniel, like the profile. It's probably detailed in the lure making books, but another usefull thing to use for the timberies, is a 2d outline of the lure which you trace straight onto the timber. I made a couple from 2mm polycarbonate, especially useful if you plan to make a few of the same lure. Few minutes on the ban saw, then belt sander and youre half way there. Some then draw the top profile as a sanding line reference.

Haha so technically not squid but I had a curry night and my mate told me to make a traditional indian dessert. It basically consists of cashews and sugar. Instead of cutting it into diamond shapes as the recipe suggested I turned it into a squid!

hi guys and lady's my son had one of those sprays you spray on soft plastics, well he had it in his tackle box were most people of course keep them, he had aerosol type i have the pump one, went out to his boat and there was hooks on the concrete, all through the boat, looked in the boat and thought what the hell, lid missing of his plano 777 tackle box, thought how could that have broken, as it was in peices every were.started picking up stuff and found the aerosol that had blown up, the day was 30 degrees, can said dont expose over 40 deg, but i can understand in the box lid clear plastic (were he had it) would must have got hot still, and possibly build up over a few days too. 2 days before my missus was sitting on the box fishing in the boat.so anyone who has one in there box just be warned please, flying hooks ect could have ended up in eyes, and if kids close i would hate to think. some takle ended up 15 feet away from boat on the ground.my son said oh well went and got a new plano box, he lost a leg 3 years ago he has more money than me, i said if you dont mind can i have your box, he said yes of course, the plano lids clip on and off, so i emailed plano, and told them exactly what happened, no lies told just plain truth all i wanted was price for a replacement lid, well they emailed me back next day, said send them my address and they will send me a lid for free the same week.that is what i call a great company, how many would do that for anyone, it was not Plano's fault at all just an accident. i am very impressed with the outcome, i will buy Plano again for sure.

I've had a few single circle gut hooks. Bloody annoying as i hate releasing fish when they are gut hooked

I always rig with 2 snelled circles chasing snapper. Either hook can hook the fish and it is really rare to gut hook (although it does still happen)

about a month ago moggy23, HSVLS19 & myself had one of those sessions that was bananas on the snaps we would have hooked around 30 fish easily, out of all of them we had 3 big ones 90cm + gut hooked and 8 smaller ones gut hooked all using single 6/0 & 8/0 circles, we were surprised to end up with that many knowing how good the lip hook rate is with them it was a little dissapointing not being able to return more but all have been eaten now atleast cheers 4THA

Just thought i'd throw this out there for anyone interested... I hate carrying buckets around so recently i 'converted' my camping folding kitchen sink to fishing So i'll never use it for washing again (was rarely used camping anyway)I bought it years ago and from what i remember it was pretty cheap. I've used it on a few trips now and it have proven to be very useful. Holds 10L of water and folds up small enough it fits in your pocket (packed size is about 4 inches x 3 inches). When full the water it is a bit over 4 inches deep but livies swim around quite happily as long as you don't overstock it. Handy for cleaning your catch and keeping it clean and is really good for storing livebaits on the boat and perfect for the same job on the rocks as well as defrosting baits. If that way inclined you could even mix up berley in it! It rinses out easily, weighs almost nothing and is a breeze to clean with no smells! Also handy as a sink for washing things :woohoo: The best thing.... You don't have to carry a bloody bucket!
