I suspect the photos are still up on the wall i.e. go into Niks BBQ on The Lake (yep that's how it is spelt) at Mawson Lakes, the shop is located next to the roundabout and there are a couple of photos next the his freezers showing Carp, Silver Perch and even a small Murray Cod.

I know this is old but good new news there's nice size SILVER PERCH, CALLOP & landed 14 huge carp this week my 7 year old son caught an 88cm just over 10 pound on his tiny rod with 2 pound line with 10 pound leader gave him a good fight just over 15 minutes to land it was stoked to see him pull it up instead of him being pulled in Lol and the funny part is my son is just over just 100cm so the fish was nearly as big as him and he landed it.🎣

While fishing the upper Mersey River yesterday I came across a Grey Goshawk (endangered species here in Tassie), a Bumble Bee on a flowering plant & this morning a green bug (Grass hopper).. the three "B's"
The Goshawk was some 60 feet away from where I was standing in the river.. even though it's white it's called Grey..
    cheers

Looking at that instagram account I reckon I've had facebook friend requests from an account of the same name with the same portrait pics. Some scammers may have thrown this instagram together to make the fake fb profile look legitimate.

Burners was peaceful until I nearly blew us up with that dodgy butane cooker ahaha.
Yorkes is an awesome place to camp and fish like the others have mentioned. It’s probably myself and Southie’s most common overnighter trips. So many options available.

Try Port Minlacowie, cupla K's north of Hardwicke. Camping area about 600m Sth of the boat ramp- no facilities. Very rocky coast, good for squid, gar, tommies. I have seen Kingies and hammer heads in close.
Or Mozzie Flat, 20Km due west of Edithburgh.  Free camping with no facilities. Camping good behind sandhills, fishing difficult with southerlies blowing.

Another vote for Yorkes..... In all honesty i dont waste my time fishing metro much anymore. I'd rather save the cash and head to Yorkes. Alot more options and if weather turns your only 20-30mins away from the other side....
Plenty of little bays/areas you can get away from everyone and camp for a couple nights....
Myself and Kuerschie camped at Burners Beach peaceful and water right out the front....

    Hi Noz,
My first thought would be Deep Creek, when I was  young and land based this was my favourite place. One trip me and my girlfriend at the time got about 4 and a half dozen 50 to 60 cm salmon off the rocks in about two hours, great memories.

@Brutus, hi, are they still having issues with tyres being spiked at Cape Elizabeth? It's a great place to fish there and a beautiful camping spot, it's a shame a small minority try and ruin it.

closer to town is Rapid Bay and it has a camp ground it has a guy that comes round to collect a small camping fee but i reckon if you set up late and left early
Then you have the beach right there along side, with the Jetty 500mts away
    Just another option.........

    Cheers Chuck

Haven’t heard any issues now for 6 months or more, hopefully the person landed on one of their own spikes and crawled under a bush to wither away

If you got a trail bike heaps of beach riding and tracks behind the dunes. Once at the gap if you head north along the beach about 1/2 a km you will see a tin shed up in the dunes (nicknamed “camp crusty”).
It regularly used by campers and can be accessed by a track along the beach or behind the dunes.
Same thing if you keep head North up to Cape Elizabeth you will see another shack used for camping. Both are basic and sometimes quite crusty, but it’s a first come first served basis

Noz, there are stacks of places up my way on Yorks.
You could head to the gap. There’s a camping ground right next to beach, long drop dunny, and good fishing off the beach for gars Crabs yellowfin squid etc....

Fishing landbased is really hard up there. It seems like a lot of the best spots in Cairns Marina are now no fishing areas. I saw cod caught up there on bait and heard of a few barra but the locals that do well usually fish livebait and put in a lot of hours between fish.
If you don't have access to a cast net, try a bait jig to jig up some herring.
Get out on a charter out to the reef if you can, it is a great experience and the fishing is very different from what we get here. Micro jigging is great fun and Spanish Mackeral and reef fish are much better eating than our snapper.

I reckon that sounds like a pretty good plan.  There's a decent sized tackle store 5 minutes from Palm Cove, heading back towards Cairns on the main road.  Well sign posted and you won't miss it.
Be a good idea to drop in and have a chat with them and get some local intel too.

    Cheers mate.
I was thinking of taking a lighter and heavier travel rod. Then a range of bream size to around 120mm hardbodies and a few plastics.
Been watching alot on youtube and starting to get an idea of whats around...

I stayed up at Palm Cove not that very long ago for a week.  Didn't fish myself, but daily walked along the jetty for a bit of a look at what the locals were catching.
From what I saw, there didn't seem to be much consistency with regards to the type of tackle being used, from handlines, light spin outfits to big overheads and heavy lines.  Some were using dead baits, other live baits then the rest were trying their luck using all types of lures from plastics, metal slugs to hard bodies.
I'd say if you're planning on flicking lures about, just take a spin rod that's good for casting along with a rod and reel combo that could be used to chuck out a bait to the bottom.  I'd say kits between 5-8kg range would be fine for the size of fish that were being caught.
