MIKECATTS got a reaction from Savage in Cockle alternatives for KGs
I always use fresh tenderized squid with a little bit of pilchard on my baits, the frozen squid doesnt work as well as fresh... My theory is the pilchard brings them to the bait, the squid hooks them as it stays on the hook better.. If they are fussy and I have a KGW/trevally. Then I use a little bit of that  instead.. I dont boat fish.. Only off the land which is a bit harder to get KGW.. Its been hard this year due to the crowds everywhere... Hoping/wishing next summer is better.. crowd wise...
Last few trips I havnt really fished as much due to the crowds...
We went to Gleesons landing over the Adelaide cup weekend.... My god.. Rundle mall all weekend.. I didnt really fish... too noisy, too many people...
I know the local cray guys and they let me squeeze in and camp next to them.. ALL the other camping spots were full. I counted 27 cars/vans/campers jut at one clearing...
I managed to go out on one of the cray guys boats for the day.. For my efforts I was rewarded with a small cray... By the way.. This year the cray guys have been doing really well as the pro isnt going out and catching them this season.. They have been getting their bag limit every day...

KGW like KGW flesh.... Ive had great success with trevally meat as well... and theres lots of pipies exposed on the sand flats at the moment... They are just sitting on top.. Thousands where I was yesterday. Might be worth a trip for you to gather some..
My old man used to gather them, open and lightly salt them, then freeze... He always did well with the KGW..

A lot of KGW , I have caught over Moonta way , have had prawns in there guts , I always see what is inside a fishes belly , to help give you an idea of there eating habits , some days Pilchard will send them off as well  . I found that a finely cut up pilchard will keep the school around . The last hot bite we had , all big fish , had pilchard in there guts , and biggest 50cm , my PB

    Couldn't agree more with this.
The Samaki - is it the V1 (cork butt) or V2 (skeleton reel seat)? V1 is a belter of a rod!!

OK, a few pics here too since this is a new design. The reel seat is like the Fuji seat on the Zing Xteme Gen II,

except Daiwa doesn't have the scallops, it's 'ergonomic' and at first I thought it silly, but damned if it don't work well. Even the fact that there's no EVA  is a good thing as you are more directly connected to the line, then again I wear sun gloves anyway

note the hook keeper is behind the reel so that the line cant catch on it unintentionally...anyway your hand grips the curves in a very natural way, hard to show but...

Oh, look who's been cleaning squid

I need to take it bream fishing, and then out on the flats.

Ok guys I’ve been using the team Diawa hyper rod 1-3 kilos love it . Have yet to catch a legal bream been having fun with tiny STs yesterday 36 today 25 . I’ve been swapping with three reels besides the 2500 reel as I’ve mentioned using laguna 1000 and sienna 1000 . Same rod smaller lures . Laguna reel when I got over the line issues casts the smaller lures further than the Sienna. Rod I’m happy with

    That's no good Mike.
I have only had to return two or three small things in the past (faulty pliers, tackle trays etc) and they have always been good.
    Best of luck.

I have the Samaki Archer 6112SL 4-8lb and a Samaki Archer 692SXL 2-6lb and I prefer the Zing 702 2-6lb... I bought another for a spare anyways.. Why dont they do reels at half price? Ide like a nice 1000 with a spare spool or 2.

I’m loving it with my 1000 reels haven’t respooled the 750 yet but it’s good with the 2500 . Funny how you can feel the tiny tiny fish now for legal or bigger . braid I’m using 6 lb on the sienna 5 lb on the laguna and other diawa reel plus all three use 4 lb FC .  Into the centre of the Pat today into the wind was like a 2-4 kilo rod

With 4 deaths in South Australia in 11 months, I think you would be very very very unlucky to die from it.

Majority fishing SA are targeting bread and butter species, whiting,ST's,squid, crabs, flathead, garfish. No need on high end stuff but the most important part of any set up is the line that attaches you to the fish.I remember a tackle store owner telling me how some will spend 600-$900 on rod and reel and then ask for the cheapest line on special.
Whatever anyone uses it's there choice and i won't rubbish anyone on what they use high or low end tackle as i have been down both paths.Just got to keep remember the reason why your doing this sport.

I love my "specials".... Rapala 75r type.. $97, Samaki 12' foot heavy surf rod= $69.... Kastking braid/leader+ cheaper than others and just as good. I also have expesnive rods/reels,, But not to be used on hard rocky areas.. They get trashed fishing off rocks.. My nephew has $1500 reels/rods.. Work just the same a cheaper stuff.. I do agree, dearer stuff lasts, but I cant see myself paying BIG $ for  rod/reel..
Im happy with what Ive got.. and it does perform..
