  1. As said, there are plenty of Rays in the Port River. We were consistently getting 1 - 3 hook ups per session, when we were having a go at targeting them. Some epic battles, but this is the only one we landed. We were only using 4000-6000 sized spin reels with 20 - 30lb braid. Good luck.Posted Image

  2. If you are after a feed my advice would be to concentrate on your most local area. Learn how to fish it and reap the rewards. There are locals on every beach, jetty, rock wall, marina, lake, dam ....... from the Onka to north of St Kilda that will confidently fish an area for a feed. Just a bit of time and knowledge and you'll laughing mate, plenty of metro LB fish to had. Good luck.

  3. i guess i was just surprised as i never thought of gar as a predatory fish. We all use gents to catch them of course but whenever i gut them I've only every noticed weed in them. What do they eat normally and what do they they think the gents are?

From my very limited understanding, and from a non scientific view point, they're bottom feeders, mainly weed during the day, but at night they will feed on small critters near the surface. Your surface burley will get them to the top level of water, day or night, and depending on multiple factors they will feed freely on whatever you offer, or you'll be scratching your head wondering why they will not bite, sooooo many theories. I don't fish with gents anymore. I think the theory is they like the scent and the movement as they wiggle, but not so convinced. Good luck if you chase them with SPs. ;)
  4. Never hooked one up myself, but have watched Gar follow all sorts of lures, so you'd think if they are competing hard enough for a feed it would happen, like Boyo said. ;) One of the fishing shows had a segment where they were chasing Tommies off the beach with a cut down straw on a long shank hook and they got a few big Gar with this set up, so.....Fishie, I think, suggested cutting off Flick Bait tails and using them if you run out of bait, but thats a slightly different method of SP fishing! :silly:

  5. My SP set up is 6lb leader to 6lb braid on a Shimano Sedona 1500 match to a 2-4kg Dynamix Bream rod or a 2-4kg Venom Death Adder.

could even change the direction of the thread and ask what is the biggest/heaviest fish you have landed on the lightest gear' date=' whether that be mainline or leader or both. [/quote']A few LB PBs on this SP set up.Flathead @ 51cmPosted ImageSnook @ 80cmPosted ImageBream @ 41cmPosted ImageSalmon @ 47cm. An oldie, but this is what got me hooked on light weight SP fishing.Posted ImageGood luck with it mate. Cheers. B)
  6. see ya at haven pommy' date=' still tossing up saturday or sunday!?[/quote']Just checked Meteye this morning and the conditions are slightly worse for both days, :( gonna keep an eye it and see how it develops, might need to change it to land based session! :fishing: Sunday morning is no good for me as the conditions on Saturday night are looking awesome for a serious :d/ session! :silly:
  7. First time I've seen this off the bom site. Clicked on the North Haven area and came up with the usual weather info, then clicked on the 'detail' box and you get temps, wind direction, wind speed and combined swell info for 8 different times during each day! Very helpful :clap:http://www.bom.gov.au/australia/meteye/?loc=SA_MW011So going on Saturdays details the Tinny might get wet in the morning and back in by before 10.30am. :boat::fishing::clap:
