  1. I was having a bad day on the Mini marlinreduced then removed the berleytried every bait I could findWould get 1 gar if lucky on a different bait gut lining' date=' tiny fillet, cockle, squid, sausage & breadFishing 6lb fluro single small hook FRUSTRATING FISHINGI want to make a garfishing fly :woohoo:Not sure where to start?Maybe a small long shank with some white wool as they loved the bread Mackeral pattern would be handy too!!![/quote']Lol @ the 'sausage and bread', I had a mental picture of your 'sausage in bread' lunch being float out to them. :silly: don't forget the onions and sauce, should get them biting   The reason I enjoy Gar fishing so much is it never the same two sessions in a row. Getting the right combination of hook depth, ammount of berley, retrieval rate, if any, and what bait is working on that particular day is the challenge, and as you said sometimes it can be very frustrating. There are hundreds of theories about baits and how to get the Gar biting.... but if it was always easy, and all these theories worked all the time then the challenge and the rewards have gone. ;) Good luck with the fly fishing, if you give it a go. I'd love to hear how you go with it. :)
  2. Yeah I'm in again. $20 to a good cause and I've got an excuse to go fishing :clap::clap: KGW and Australian Salmon are not very common at a comp' winning size where I fish land based, so I told the Missus "the target fish this year are Black Bream and Garfish, so I'm definitely in with a chance darling  :silly: , but I might need to be out all day trying to upgrade, OK?":laugh::laugh:

  3. This is what i always use BOMhttp://www.bom.gov.au/marine/wind.shtmlhttp://www.bom.gov.au/sa/forecasts/adelaide-waters.shtmlhttp://www.tides4fishing.com/au/south-australia/adelaide-outer-harbour

Nice one DT, I hadn't seen the last link before, just been saved to my favourites, cheers.
  4. I've always used a floating burley bucket PP? Never had any problems and found that the continual waves help with spreading the burley. Just my 2 cents worth.

You don't find that your pot/bucket swings back to the rocks either side of where you are standing depending on which way the tide is going, in or out?
  5. Thanks guys' date=' i have a Burley pot which i bought a few weeks ago for my kayak... I want sure if would work fishing off rocks but I'll get done whiting nuts and give it a shot. I have some premixed burlery stuff which had gone all dry but I'm adding some tubs oil and I'll give it a shot :)[/quote']Off the rocks your pot will usually end up back in the rocks and getting snagged, wasting fishing time! For surface fish I have used a hand line with a pot tied with an adjsutable knot onto heavy mono to a big snapper lead, to keep the pot the require distance away from the rocks, and have the pot tied at the right height, works ok, but it is another thing to carry and attend to, so I scrapped that idea after a few trials. To be in total control of the ammount of berley going into the water I find the best method is to just throw it in by hand (spoon it in if you're feeling pretty!) as and when you need it and no extra gear needed! :)
  6. Nice photos Milmo. I was on those rocks on Sunday with Vxman' date=' but a bit further up. We pulled a couple of Blueys up on the rods too. ;) Got a few fish out of the channel side but nothing special. :([/quote']I was there too that morning and both of you went pass me and say "good luck" to me..hehe. I think Vxman came a bit later. Was that you with the red shirt?
Yeah mate that was me mate, carrying way to much gear for those rocks. And vxman had a lazy sleep in. Hopefully getting out again this weekend. :sun::fishing: :f :woohoo:
  7. I've actually been looking into this for an added service to my business' date=' previously this kind of work was outsourced. At the moment I'm testing vinyl cut stickers, and printing on t-shirts, polos, hoodies etc. I'm just waiting on a few suppliers to see what I'll be able to source. So far t-shirts and hoodies are all good, it's more the polos I'm waiting for, a bit more variety of hoodies and t-shirts would be nice.Unfortunately it takes a little time to get all this sorted but it is going on in the background.[/quote']Nice work bjorn, I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Sounds like I'm getting some new clothes shortly!;)
  8. Haha, some amusing dribble! Makes me laugh how some of the quality posts/reports and pictures on here get a couple of "Well done mate" replies and then you get a post like this one when the said fish hasn't even been caught! there is no photo! and the identity is unknown! and there are pages of dribble, admittedly some of it is very amusing. Whatever makes your boat float I suppose, but give me a decent report and a few decent photos any day! :) Sorry for adding to the dribble...... :vomit:

Awesome stuff Ugly, I fished both these spots recently. Trevally, Tommies and Squid from the 2 platforms and I fished around the corner of the wharf in the second photo for Trevally, one I couldn't stop and got busted off on the wooden poles, and 1 Kingfish which was just playing with me before it spat the SP hook. A great place to fish when the wind is gonna knock you off the Jetties. ;-)
  10. Hi folks' date='I'm a recent migrant to South Australia from Austin Texas. I primarily fly fish and lure fish from my kayak. My wife and I are spending a few days in Pt Lincoln NP after Christmas, specifically at Memory Cove. Does anyone have any advice about this area? Is it worth fishing? Any hope of catching anything, Flathead, Snook, Salmon trout in Memory Cove? If so I expect soft plastics are the best bet, correct? I'd be grateful for any comments.Best regards,jt[/quote']Hi mate, I've camped there a few times, and yes it is definitely worth fishing. :woohoo: We've only fished land based, but have caught big Tommies, Flathead, KGW, Squid, Leather Jackets, Sweep, Wrasse and Groper. All these were caught off the rocks not far from the beach. There is a walking trail to the right of the beach that will lead you to the rocks at the entrance of the Cove and you can fish into some seriously deep water here, which opens up some more options, but take care on these rocks, not for the faint hearted and have seen scarely big :sh shapes in the water here. Good luck, it's a seriously beautiful place. ;)
  11. I am in the market for a new (maybe a couple) of squid jags' date=' after losing my faithful Red/White Yo-Zuri on the weekend :( almost 4yrs we had be together....But on one of it's final casts off the jetty at Pt Neill it did manage to hit a swollow flying past and kill it... karma maybe? So what are people using these days, so many options out there or do i just go back to the red/white again or spend $20 on a fancy jap jag or just buy the $2 cloth jobbie?[/quote']R.I.P your Red/White Yozuri. I'd be getting another one ASAP, it is the king of squid jags! The King is dead! Long live the King! ;-)

I'm gonna try these Zman Grubs soon. :-)

  13. Had a rock fishing session yesterday' date=' hoping to find a few Gar. We found a spot out of the wind. Had to work hard to get a feed, but just about managed to fill a few plates last night, bulked it out with a large portion of potato salad   Gotta luv a feed of fresh Gar. :cheer:[/quote']Just wanted to add a picture to the above post. Hard work for this little feed, but better than eating doughnuts. ;)Posted Image
