  1. Yeah Allroy, first a 1 lb carp snapped the tip off, then a few weeks later after fixing it I got snagged with light drag (bream fishing) and it snapped in half the blanks are wafer thin and extremely poor quality, I have t'curve tournaments that have been in use for years without problems but the revolutions are junk imo
  2. T-curve revolution rods are great tomato stakes, or a long milkshake straw
  3. If anyone thinks that catching Jewies on lures is challenging then get yourself down to the mouth of the glenelg river,, like shooting fish in a bucket,,with a rocket launcher
  4. Large estury perch on lures for me, aggressive predator that requires some skill to extract from their snaggy homes and put the humble bream to shame with their fight, pound for pound the hardest fighting fish I have encounted salt or freshwater in Aus :)lovem
  5. Just fitted my rig out with platinum 2 plush hookless marine carpet, very pricey but easily draining, I used artificial turf glue with good results!Another option is to glue carpet onto a sheet of alloy then just screw the alloy to your ply making it easy to remove and dry out cheers
  6. Iv'e been trying the clackin crab plastics instead,,, not a bite yet
  7. A $25 baitcaster will put you off using one for life, a positive is that you'll be able to supply the local bird population with nesting material. You can cast light jigs and hb's ect with them but using a quality reel is the key, it would be unlikley that a sub $200 reel will do what you require without severe frustration;) cheers
  8. Really highlights how little (0) PIRSA and SARDI commit to recreational fishing in this state! Anyone else notice that the only research 'carried out' by PIRSA is actually research done by SA's rec fishers that are coalated by researchers  Yes we should be involved but doing ALL their research for them is a bit rich  Aparently SARDI did some research 30 years ago that suggested that artificial reefs are not good, so they have run with it ever since :S
  9. Wind knots and twists don't really have much to do with inexperience. more so the line quality itself and sometimes the reels roller can cause them if not working properly ;)IMO using any test braid 6lb and under your asking for trouble. cheers
  10. 10lb sunline castaway, will have you casting further than 3-6lb test braids and you don't get the associated wind knots and tangles that are common with 3-6 test in any brand.Using true 10lb .6pe castaway gives you the options of tieing anything from 4lb leader to 20lb
  11. vx35 ecogears and strike pros are probably the best quality, long cast, hold rod tip high, do VERY SHORT lifts,, 10 o'clock to 11 o'clock , once you feel the lure vibrate drop it down straight away let it sit on bottom for 2-5 seconds while watching line for flicks(bites) and repeat! long lifts are for mulloway short lifts for bream
  12. Don't forget what massive $ they can score for winning a bass tournament over there would make $400 seem like pocket change.
  13. retrieve technique is totally dependant on which species you fishing for, unless it's salmon your chasing where anything works
  14. Vic fisheries got back to me last night, as we suspected Booma hit the nail on the head and i'm sure your prize from Chief is in the mail :cheer: Vic fisheries DPI will now add a new native species to their known species list for the glenelg river nice work guys cheers
  15. squidge slick bait's in the pilchard colour account for a lot of the Barra in the tidal creeks around douglas
  16. Should work on graphite , just go for light sandpaper and stop when you hit graphite best of luck
  17. Ive stripped back and sanded and spray painted 3 solid glass blanks in the last couple of years and sent them off to have fuji sic guides put on ect, 2 rods where 5ft and cost $100 each and another 6ft $120 If you have the blank preped and sprayed it will save you some coin.cheers
  18. Talked to charlie cooper from vic fisheries (portland), turns out theres 2 species of goby in the river so i'll e-mail a pic to him for an accurate answer! definately ruled out congoli, tupong, lamprey and blue spot goby at this stage.I think Booma is spot on with bridled goby but their not actually listed as a species found in the glenelg river,,,,,,yet!
  19. Hold the port, I have caught 3 one arse hooked, has to count for something
  20. Just contacted Vic fisheries and they will get the older wiser officer whose done sampling in the river to contact me tomorrow, the other local officers have heard stories of these rareish captures but where not game to give a name. you never know chief could be an un-named sub species,, the 'green spotted chief fish' cheers
  21. goby, toupong and congolli all the same family(gobiidae), most locals refer to them as topong but there's a hell of a lot of different varieties (2000+) within the species, I'll talk to vic fisheries to find out their scientific name
  22. It's a mother f****** Tuppong, catch a few of them in the mid to lower glenelg river on lures, great bait apparently but could possibly be protected?
  23. I'll ask a mate that has the same one pretty sure theirs some vintage reel forums around worth asking, just mention it's not for sale first before asking for a value
