Was the snapper landbased or on a boat?

They seem to get to 70-80 cm and then stop growin in length and put it all on their girth.

Leave it for the fish! Jetty's make for great artificial reefs its just because they get flogged that you don't catch much off them. We go up to port hughes befor the christmas rush and the jetty fishes great until boxing day. Then the crowds arrive with kids that got rods for christmas and its time to start taking the boat out!

We fish from Pt hughes alot and sometimes we see the charter boats tearing off straight for the other side of the gulf and then the next day the same boat will just putt around the bay. Same conditions and everything. I guess they might only have a half day charter and not wanna waste too much time travelling but we always joke that they musn't like the people on board. Guess it depends on what the cutomers wanna target too. But if I spent most the day paravaning and squidding I'd be pretty pissed off. A few years ago We got plenty of squid off the breakwaters at the boat ramp.

I reckon give them a shot.I know they work for sharks and rays. Don't think they would be as good as some fresh salmon or mullet for mulloway but Take some as a backup.

I reckon you will be alright as long as you don't attract attention. If you keep your car well maintained, good tyres, shiny number plates, no smoke, keep lights working. If they pull you over for one thing they'll pick on whatever else they can find. Especially if you be a smartarse.

One of my frinds took the cap off the butt of his rod, glued a bean sinker in the end and put the cap back on. He swears by it.

How and where do you go to get them landbased. Do you don the waders? I can think of better places to be than standing waist deep in water on a june night. If I cant get the old man to come with me I'll be restricted to landbased. Do you still get a good number?

Do bloodworms freeze ok or do you need to salt them? I've used some salted ones befor but wondering if you can use them more fresh?

Your spot on mate. Bit hard too cut it off when your filleting it but there's still plenty of meat there. Too much to waste anyway.

mulloway wings are good too. We just about lived on them for a week at Yalata one year.

I would say its sweeter. Not quite as nice but still delicous.

I used to take it too a butcher but I haven't caught one big enough to warrant it for a while. .hissy.

I sit because If I stand in the kayak I'd probably fall in with all my rods, tackle and fish.

I normally use a loop knot but if I use a clip its the same as the ones in mike's picture. Not the same brand but almost identical. Without going out to the shed I couldn't tell you what brand they are.

Never fished there but its always been on my to do list. Reckon it'd be well worth taking the yak over there.

I use my right hand to hold the rod and left to reel. I am right handed. But I reckon do whatever feels good and catches you fish

I don't know how big the "big stuff" is but I like to use my 10 foot butterworth mulloway rod. Then you can hold it out from the pylons a bit further. But if your fishing 24kg probably not suitable.

Funny you should mention lures because most of the elly's we've caught Down there over the last couple of years were on surf poppers.

If you wanna fish HB's go for the cd5's or 7's, soft plastics any bright coloured grubs, and spinners all work well but especially the gold celtas with the red prism tape on it.
