RybakWhere were you fishing first of all?? Onk I guess. Wouldn't bother with the Onk but I guess a good training ground from what I have read. When you get serious go to the Port. Not a fair comment if you ask me . A bit narrow minded but you can have your opinion . Last nights effort . Any mulloway is a good mulloway .

Was at the carp ponds on river road last weekend . I had my nephew with me an he had tangled his line , as i was untangling his line i caught my rod tip buckle over and my rod start fast tracking it straight towards the water . As i do a girlie throw of the tangled line i only have time to dive for the rod butt and i dont think i would of got it if the handle didnt catch the rod rest . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOxCDUklE70So.... Went out with Flubba last night . Absolute cracker of a night weather wise . Shame we didn't get more bait fish or it could of been better . Did manage to get a nice 63cm Mully not huge but nice to just get a fish .Unfortunately for us we ran out of livies just as the fish came on the chew . With the warm night we could of stayed out there but thats fishing . In the vid you can see the fish take my bait . I grab the rod , wait to see if the fish is still pulling line then strike . And then it takes of . Not a huge run an wasn't sure if it was a bream at this point . it then turned around swam at the canoe an i had to retrieve line quick smart . Then It see's the canoe an stops dead . Landed nicely with the hooks easily retrieved . Couple of photos an then put back . Ok , now i havent been fishing the Onk very long but this is what i have witnessed . You do have to go on the highest high and the lowest low to get a rough idea what the Onk is doing for that day . Recently i have seen the Onk have a twelve hour turn around from high to low and on the opposite range a three hour turn around from high to low . I think the Onk drains slower than what it fills up , so depending on what point in the moon cycle and the effect of the tides between the high-high and the low-low are , it can drain even slower . There for not having much movement , if not , stalls even between the big movements with tides in the ocean having a lot of movement . At the moment i'm learning a lot about the Onk and every thing i have learnt last year going out the window as the moon cycle was different again . Most of last year the high-high was after the the low-low and had a different effect . Now it has the low-low after the high-high and what i have written above is what i am witnessing . The second page of the messenger has an awesome gragh of the tides that give me much more of a visual idea of what they are doing . You are right about the tide in the Onk being about two hours later but this is mainly relevant to the high-high and the low-low as these are strongest , but the one's in between i'm still trying to get them down pat and a soon as i have it sussed i will let you know . Dont get me wrong i'm no expert and i'm still learning every time i head out . Also the wind can play a big factor as well .

Started back at work today an was chatting to the apprentice . He was telling me about his uncles work an how there was this big trout in the dam there . I was like "wanna go up there after work an have a crack" he said "sure" . Not sure if it was the same fish three times but i had fish chase my lure twice to the bank . The first time i retrieved till the lure was out of the water and only saw the fish at the last second . The second time i saw the fish fallow , stopped two feet from the surface and the fish struck but no hook up . Just before i hook up i pause a sec an the fish strikes an you can see this in the video .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGmZCFFLaXEIt went 43cm . I had to stick a lure in my camera bag strap to measure later as i forgot my tape measure .Still haven't got it out .

Ok after writing a report out dropping the mouse an wiping the lot here it is in briefBeen a while between fish .Onk tide in arvo have been wack .Made it very difficult .Went to port , no runs but did good with live bait .Thought i wasn't going to get a Mully in my holidays .Fished with Flubba in his Grunter Hunter last night .Got this fish on 10lb braid .It's hard to take self portraits buy yourself .

Sian starts the bait fish collection with a nice 26cm Mullett (need bigger hooks now) , always handy and a good start . Ended up with a few mullet well over legal and a some more just over . Was nice to not have any bream an if any only one hit our live bait rods . Did have a few small salmon trout completely inhale the hooks that then needed to be cut off . Geeze they can smash ya bait . Headed round an set up for some Mully's . Didn't take long before my wife had a run an then hooked up like a champion . 56cm Mulloway The first for the season for Sian . hope there is plenty more for her this year . When Sian was realing in i realised that the drag was a little loose .
